Tang Can's mother was feeling unwell, prompting Tang Can's father to call and discuss her condition. Tang Can grew worried and urged her mother to seek a hospital check-up, fearing a potential tumor. Her mother, however, chastised her for speaking inauspiciously. Motivated by her parents' well-being and her own long-standing struggle with acting, having faced countless rejections and never landing a lead role, Tang Can decided to abandon her acting aspirations.
She made the brave decision to call her father and ask if the museum job he had previously mentioned was still available, expressing her desire to work there. She then informed Qi Mingyue and Li Jianjian that she would no longer be working at the errand shop and had given up acting, planning to interview for a museum guide position the following day. She sought a stable job to care for herself and fulfill her filial duties to her parents.
Tang Can also met with Zhuang Bei, informing him that she would be ending their part-time collaboration as she intended to pursue a formal, stable career. She explained that she needed to settle down, as her parents disapproved of her unstable, wandering lifestyle.
Although she was quitting the errand shop, Tang Can assured Zhuang Bei that she would still complete the task entrusted by his mother, considering it a favor, but emphasized that he must clarify to his mother that this would be the final time. Zhuang Bei was puzzled by her sudden decision to quit the errand shop.
Tang Can then offered him comfort, noting that despite his failed confession to Qi Mingyue, he should not be discouraged or think poorly of himself. She explained that Qi Mingyue had no prior romantic experience and might not know how to respond to a declaration of affection, asserting that Zhuang Bei was a good person and should regain his confidence. Zhuang Bei appeared mentally sound, showing no signs of being disheartened by the rejection, which relieved Tang Can.
Meanwhile, at Li Haichao's shop, as he rested after finishing his work, Hongying suddenly arrived. She had prepared homemade dumplings and asked Li Haichao to taste them, enthusiastically feeding him. Ling Heping entered the shop, witnessed the scene, and playfully teased the two. Later, when Li Jianjian and others returned to the Li family home for lunch, Ling Heping vividly recounted and mimicked Hongying feeding dumplings to Li Haichao, further teasing him. Li Jianjian also made a few playful remarks.
Ling Heping even jokingly claimed jealousy that Li Haichao had found a "partner," criticizing him for not informing anyone and then denying it, insisting she was just a "good friend." Li Haichao, however, maintained that he and Hongying were not suitable for each other and were merely friends, not yet at the stage of dating. Seeing Li Haichao's genuine discomfort with the idea, Ling Xiao refrained from joining in the teasing.
As Ling Xiao's birthday approached, Chen Ting decided to surprise him by returning to China with Qin Meiyang. Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian were leaving work and encountered Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang at Ling Xiao's residence, either coming out of the elevator or at the doorstep. They were both extremely surprised. Ling Xiao quickly released Li Jianjian's hand, unwilling to display intimacy in front of his mother.
Qin Meiyang observed that Ling Xiao seemed unhappy to see them but became cheerful upon seeing Li Jianjian. Despite Li Jianjian instinctively removing Ling Xiao's hand from her shoulder, Ling Xiao openly embraced her in front of Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang, clearly declaring their relationship. Ling Xiao then led Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang into his home. Li Jianjian soon arrived with a fruit platter for them.
Chen Ting warmly greeted Li Jianjian, inviting her in, and praised her, remarking on how much she had grown. However, Chen Ting then brought up the past incident where Qin Meiyang had fallen and gotten injured while following Li Jianjian. Qin Meiyang had forgotten about the incident, but Li Jianjian looked awkward, forcing a smile in response to Chen Ting's words.
After a short visit, Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang returned to their hotel, planning to book a restaurant for Ling Xiao's birthday and invite Li Haichao and Ling Heping to celebrate. Ling Heping was very worried about Chen Ting's return, suspecting her of harboring ill intentions, but Li Haichao felt that Chen Ting might have changed from her former self. After Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang left, Ling Xiao found himself unable to sleep, experiencing auditory hallucinations again.
Li Jianjian, guessing that Ling Xiao was upset by Chen Ting's arrival, came to his room, saying she couldn't sleep and wanted to sleep with him. Her comforting presence slowly helped Ling Xiao's mood to stabilize. Later, Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang visited Ling Xiao at his workplace, a dental clinic. They brought gifts from Singapore for his colleagues. Feng Xixi, at the front desk, recognized Chen Ting as Ling Xiao's mother and proactively greeted her.
Chen Ting explained to the front desk staff that she simply wanted to see Ling Xiao's work environment. Ling Xiao, who was treating a patient, only learned of his mother's visit after finishing his consultation, either from Feng Xixi or other staff. He was visibly upset, stating that Chen Ting should have informed him in advance of her visit. Chen Ting claimed she had called him, but he was busy and didn't answer.
Unwilling to argue further, Ling Xiao informed them that he had already arranged a shift swap with a colleague and would take them sightseeing that afternoon. Separately, He Mei visited He Lan's husband in the hospital before having dinner with He Lan at a restaurant. He Mei inquired about He Lan's recent situation, to which He Lan expressed a touch of melancholy, feeling her life hadn't been as fortunate as He Mei's.
They reminisced about past events, and He Lan asked why He Mei had not contacted them for so many years. He Mei explained that she was afraid of causing them trouble. He Lan surmised that He Mei had remarried and commented that if He Mei and Li Haichao had married back then, things would have been far less complicated. He Mei, however, opted to change the subject. After their meal, He Mei gave He Lan a bag containing money.
Shortly after leaving the restaurant, He Mei received a call from her employee, informing her that Dongdong was missing, having been seen on surveillance footage chasing a dog and running off.
