Hua Yinan felt a sense of relief when Lu Yue'er showed no suspicion about signing the bank note. He reasoned that by giving Hua Yuman a generous allowance, she would not investigate the household finances, thus preventing Lu Yue'er's true identity from being discovered for a while. He recalled Elder Wu's advice to reclaim financial control and have Lu Yue'er sign a property transfer agreement to make him the sole inheritor, but Hua Yinan ultimately tore up the agreement.
Lu Yue'er visited her father and once again encountered the man who had mistaken her for her late mother, Yun Wanxi. She spoke to him privately, and he revealed his old name was Dong Baoshan, now Dong Shuang Xi, adding that he was "dead already."
He explained that Lu Yue'er's mother had once shown him kindness and advised Lu Yue'er to always defer to Hua Yuman in the Island Lord's Mansion, especially to never mention her mother in front of Hua Yuman, as Hua Yuman harbored deep misunderstandings about her own mother's death, particularly in relation to Lu Yue'er's mother. Perplexed, Lu Yue'er questioned Hua Yinan, who vaguely dismissed Dong Shuang Xi as a mere street rogue whom his father had once helped.
Shortly after, Hua Yinan confronted Dong Shuang Xi, warning him to leave Floral Island and never return, reminding him how his past actions of helping Hua Yinan's father search for Yun Wanxi had caused his own mother much resentment. Hua Yuman, still troubled by the name Yun Wanxi, decided to visit her mother's ancestral hall and thought it would be an opportunity to introduce Lu Yue'er.
Hua Yinan, concerned about what Hua Yuman might say, decided to accompany them the next day to manage the situation. At the ancestral hall, before Hua Yuman could mention Yun Wanxi's name, Hua Yinan quickly intervened with a cough, successfully preventing Lu Yue'er from hearing her mother's name. After paying their respects, Lu Yue'er playfully requested Hua Yinan to cook something for her, assuming that as the owner of Floral House, he would be skilled in the kitchen.
Hua Yinan agreed, but proved to be completely inept, even botching scrambled eggs, turning them into fried eggshells. When he accidentally splashed oil into the stove, causing sparks to fly, Lu Yue'er instinctively stepped in front of him to shield him. She explained she didn't want him to get hurt. Touched by her selflessness, Hua Yinan insisted that she must never do such a thing again, emphasizing that she was the one who needed his protection.
Meanwhile, Hua Yuman learned from Mister Wang, the steward, who managed the accounts, that all financial withdrawals from the mansion now required Lu Yue'er's personal signature. Enraged, she immediately confronted Hua Yinan. He affirmed that it was his decision, believing Lu Yue'er was prudent and capable of managing the household's expenses. Hua Yuman accused Lu Yue'er of enchanting her brother, wondering how he could be so enamored.
At that moment, Lu Yue'er's stepmother and stepsister Yu Zhen arrived making a scene, demanding Hua Yinan help Yu Zhen find a suitable husband. Lu Yue'er's father reluctantly followed them. Hua Yuman scorned their audacity, making disparaging remarks about Yu Zhen's appearance and accusing Lu Yue'er of being a social climber just like them. Lu Yue'er's stepmother then brazenly requested Hua Yinan to give Yu Zhen a job at Floral House, hoping she would meet wealthy gentlemen there.
Hua Yinan, not wanting to put Lu Yue'er in a difficult position, agreed. Lu Yue'er was deeply hurt by Hua Yuman's harsh words and felt she was causing trouble for Hua Yinan. He quickly comforted her, explaining that Yu Zhen would only be given a menial job serving dishes and delivering meals, not a managerial position, which somewhat eased Lu Yue'er's distress.
In the imperial court, the Empress Dowager planned a marriage for Song Yan, with Princess Qingyao being the primary candidate. During a conversation, Princess Qingyao inadvertently touched upon Song Yan's mother's death, prompting the Empress Dowager to quickly interrupt her. Song Yan, observing the unusual reaction, later pressed Princess Qingyao for details.
Despite being warned by the Empress Dowager to keep silent, Princess Qingyao, moved by Song Yan's feigned sorrow and persistent questioning, confided what she had heard from her aunt: Yun Wanxi, a former imperial cook, was falsely accused of poisoning Song Yan's mother. The true culprit, she revealed, was Hua Jianshan. Hearing this, Song Yan's eyes widened in fury, and he vowed to seek justice for his mother.
Back on Floral Island, Hua Yinan and Lu Yue'er prepared to welcome the new Food Bureau Minister. Lu Yue'er, feeling anxious, confessed her fear of embarrassing Hua Yinan as the Island Lord's wife if she didn't perform well. Hua Yinan gently reassured her. When the minister's carriage arrived, a prolonged silence ensued, irritating the waiting crowd. Finally, a voice from inside the carriage commanded Lu Yue'er to approach him. As the minister emerged, Lu Yue'er's face lit up with excitement; the imperial Food Bureau Minister was none other than Du Ruo.
