Rekap Episod 4 Road to Success
> Rekap Road to Success
Following her promise to the Hongjing No. 8 High School football players, Lin Wanxing reaches out to Wang Fa, sending him a polite message asking him to reconsider her coaching proposal. Wang Fa shuts her down immediately with a blunt refusal, leaving her frustrated by his cold demeanor. The next day at school, the eager players corner Lin Wanxing in the hallway, asking if the coach has agreed to join them.
Not wanting to crush their hope, Lin Wanxing lies slightly, telling them he has not completely refused and promising she will keep working to win him over. Meanwhile, Wang Fa meets up for dinner with his former agent, Yu Bo. As they share a meal, Yu Bo inquires about his investigation into Spade Q. Wang Fa admits he has not uncovered any definitive clues yet, but he has formulated a plan.
Since the floor in his apartment has a water seepage issue, he intends to use the maintenance work as an excuse to visit Lin Wanxing's apartment and inspect her computer. Yu Bo enthusiastically offers some underhanded advice, suggesting Wang Fa deliberately break her computer to copy all her files during the repair. Wang Fa quickly mocks his friend, reminding him of how a similar scheme to repair Wang Fa's sister's stereo almost resulted in Yu Bo electrocuting himself.
While the repairmen are working on the waterproofing in his apartment, they inform Wang Fa that because of the old building's poor condition, they must apply two coats, which will require them to work late into the night. Realizing he cannot stay home, Wang Fa plans to check into a hotel. Lin Wanxing goes upstairs to check on the progress and seizes the opportunity to pitch the coaching job once more.
When Wang Fa flatly tells her that she simply cannot afford him, Lin Wanxing tries to negotiate by offering to waive his rent for the duration of his coaching. Wang Fa rejects her offer, pointing out that running a sports team requires massive financial resources beyond just a coach's salary. Annoyed by his arrogance, Lin Wanxing quietly swipes his ID card from his belongings while he is distracted, leaving him unable to check into a hotel.
Back in her room, Lin Wanxing researches Wang Fa on her phone, noting his cold, aloof, and highly disciplined traits. Determined to break his defenses, she drafts an elaborate psychological strategy utilizing the foot-in-the-door effect, the suspension bridge effect, and the door-in-the-face effect. Her planning is interrupted by a knock on the door. It is Wang Fa, who explains that he has lost his ID card and cannot find a place to stay.
When Lin Wanxing warns him that the nearby cheap motels are infested with mice and cockroaches, she offers him her spare bedroom. Wang Fa, eager for a chance to inspect her computer, readily accepts. Inside the apartment, Lin Wanxing wastes no time putting her strategy into motion. She initiates the foot-in-the-door effect by asking him to help fix a crooked frame on her wall, hoping the physical assistance will naturally build his goodwill.
Meanwhile, Wang Fa plays along, trying to find an opportunity to access her computer. When Lin Wanxing orders a burger and steps out to collect the delivery, pretending to have sudden stomach cramps, Wang Fa quickly boots up her PC. However, he is thwarted when he realizes her username and account details do not match the Spade Q profile he is looking for, forcing him to leave the screen as it was before she returns.
Determined to trigger the suspension bridge effect, Lin Wanxing puts on a terrifying horror movie late at night, hoping the fear will force him to rely on her. Wang Fa easily sees through her dramatics and ends up scaring her instead. Refusing to back down, Lin Wanxing guides him to her grandparents' spacious spare room to sleep. She deliberately triggers a short-circuit in the old apartment, plunging the rooms into darkness, and arrives at his door with beers.
Having run out of patience, Wang Fa bluntly exposes her psychological tactics. He lists her transparent setups—from the minor chores to the horror movie and the orchestrated blackout—and firmly declares that he has absolutely no intention of coaching her school's team. Depressed by his sharp rejection, Lin Wanxing retreats to her room. Determined to restore the power she cut, Lin Wanxing tries to fix the circuit breaker herself late at night.
Wang Fa stops her, warning her of the danger, and takes over the repair himself. The next morning, Lin Wanxing finds that Wang Fa has already left, leaving a note thanking her and informing her that the circuit breaker has been replaced and his pipes will be completed today. Undeterred, she decides to try her final tactic: the door-in-the-face effect.
When Wang Fa visits her apartment to check on the plumbing, she presents him with a bag of heart-shaped cookies and dramatically begs him to be her boyfriend. Wang Fa immediately sees through the extreme demand, identifying it as a textbook psychological trick designed to make his eventual refusal lead to an easier compromise—namely, accepting the coaching job. Wang Fa tells her that his answer remains the same.
He points out that football is not a game and accuses her of acting on a whim without truly understanding the sport or her players. He questions if she even knows why the boys play, their preferred formations, their strengths, or what the sport truly means for their future. Recalling his time coaching exceptionally gifted youth players at Nanton, Wang Fa asserts that a struggling team like Hongjing is simply not a fit for his career.
His questions strike a nerve, leaving Lin Wanxing deeply reflective. She spends the day at school researching the team's history, discovering how their original football class was disbanded and how the boys were marginalized across different classes after their previous coach abandoned them. Meanwhile, Yu Bo suggests breaking the water pipes again to keep his investigation going, but Wang Fa prefers to find a more natural way to confirm her identity as Spade Q.
Soon after, Lin Wanxing calls Wang Fa, offering to pay him to help her move a box of books at the school. When he arrives, she leads him to the empty Class 12, Grade 10 classroom and introduces him to the team's history. She details each player's strengths: Qin Ao, the explosive forward; Lin Lu, the agile center-back; Yu Ming, the disciplined left-back; and Fu Xinshu, their dedicated captain.
She explains that the boys never wanted to abandon football; they were simply heartbroken after being abandoned by their school and coaches. Though Wang Fa warns her not to fall into a self-righteous savior complex, Lin Wanxing drops her guard. She hands him his stolen ID card, apologizes for her psychological games, and admits her initial selfishness in wanting a coach just to protect her own job. However, she sincerely begs him to help the boys.
Touched by her honesty, Wang Fa proposes a bet. He challenges her to experience his highly disciplined lifestyle; if she can endure it, he will consider coaching the team. Lin Wanxing agrees, but on the condition that he must also experience her lazy lifestyle, with the loser being whoever cracks first. Early Saturday morning, Wang Fa knocks loudly on Lin Wanxing's door. A groggy Lin Wanxing opens the door, complaining about the hour.
Wang Fa points out that they agreed to swap lives and it is time for his usual 6:00 AM morning run and fasted cardio. When Lin Wanxing protests his militaristic schedule, they decide to lay down some ground rules. After she threatens him with her own bizarre habits—like eating river snail rice noodles barefoot and eating spicy snacks while doing handstands—Wang Fa agrees to a compromise. They decide that she will follow his disciplined fitness regimen in the mornings, while he must endure her lazy, laid-back routines in the afternoons.
