The drama tells the story of a human girl, Lu Ning, who infiltrates a game world to uncover the truth behind her father's murder five years ago. She finds Ye Wuming, a virtual character holding crucial evidence, and plans to conquer this cold-blooded, emotionless top NPC to obtain the memory chip. However, she discovers that she is actually the root cause of Ye Wuming's centuries of tragic existence— Hei Lian. Thus begins a tale of love and hate, and mutual redemption between the two.

The chip only appears when Ye Wuming experiences emotional fluctuations, so Lu Ning has no choice but to continually try to win him over. However, the identity Lu Ning assumes upon entering the game is Hei Lian, the very cause of Ye Wuming's centuries of tragic existence.
