In the early years of the Republic of China, Lin Xingran, a medical student returning from abroad, comes home to find her mother tragically murdered. Determined to uncover the truth and take revenge, she infiltrates the household of the prime suspect, the wealthy Master Fang, by posing as a family doctor. Unexpectedly, Master Fang is soon found dead, and Lin Xingran becomes the prime suspect once again.
As fate would have it, the one assigned to investigate the case is Jiang Beichen, Master Fang’s adopted son—and Lin Xingran’s former lover. Believing that she betrayed him two years ago for wealth and status, Jiang Beichen is determined to settle old and new scores alike. The two engage in a fierce battle of wits and will, a thrilling game of cat and mouse that sees them clashing and sparking along the way.
Upon discovering that the real killer of Master Fang is someone else, they join forces and rekindle their old flame. But just as hope returns, Lin Xingran uncovers a chilling possibility—Jiang Beichen may in fact be her mother’s killer. With this revelation, their roles are suddenly reversed, and their love is once again put to the ultimate test.
