Liu Shi, having invested in his hometown friend Chang Sheng's newly opened restaurant in Beijing, organizes a gathering. His intentions are twofold: to subtly encourage reconciliation between Xu Tan and Yu Kenan, and to bid farewell to Fu Jingchun, who is officially leaving the national team. Xu Tan attends the event with Wang Siheng and Lin Hao Zhi, feeling a moment of stiffness upon seeing Yu Kenan.

At the restaurant, amid some playful banter, including a friend attributing his luck in a mobile game to Xu Tan and Wang Siheng confidently remarking that others should be nervous to meet Xu Tan's friends, the group toasts to Xu Tan’s Universiade victory. Fu Jingchun then announces his official departure from the national team, expressing his honor for the years spent training and living with his teammates.

He congratulates Yu Kenan and Xu Tan, recognizing them as the future hope of the national team, and raises a glass to their shared dedication to ping-pong. As the evening progresses, Ma Chuan, under the influence of alcohol, brings up Mr Zheng's resignation. He suggests that Mr Zheng was overly strict and asks Fu Jingchun if he feels vindicated by the coach's departure. Fu Jingchun clarifies that his relationship with Mr Zheng was complex.

He admits that Mr Zheng, though tough, was effective and singularly focused on results. Fu Jingchun’s biggest regret was mistakenly believing that Mr Zheng, whom he saw as a father figure, would always stand by him. He eventually came to understand Mr Zheng's perspective and accepted that he needed to confront his own limitations regardless of the coach's presence. Xu Tan silently resonates with this sentiment.

Ma Chuan then directs his criticism at Yu Kenan, blaming him for Mr Zheng's exit and invoking the principle of "once a master, always a master." Yu Kenan, visibly angered, retorts that while a loss for Ma Chuan might only mean a reprimand, a loss for him at the Moscow World Championships would have ended his career. He passionately describes the frustration of possessing talent but lacking opportunity, feeling trapped as a mere training partner for champions.

He challenges them to consider what choice he had when his sole opportunity arose, asserting that if he could have, he would have replaced Mr Zheng even sooner. Overwhelmed, Yu Kenan abruptly leaves the gathering. Amidst the awkward silence that follows, Xu Tan receives a phone call. The call is from Fu Chuan Zhi, who, impressed by Xu Tan's performance at the Universiade, instructs him to report to the national First team the following Monday.

Xu Tan acknowledges that his long-awaited opportunity has finally arrived. Later, while still in university, Xu Tan spends time with Wang Siheng, who is looking at "Career Guidance for Fresh Graduates." They discuss future job prospects, with Wang Siheng humorously expressing a desire for a high-paying, easy job. Xu Tan suggests that happiness is paramount over money, reminding her that she also has her parents' support.

Wang Siheng playfully gets annoyed, and after some lighthearted teasing, they decide to extend their time together until the rain stops. In 2012, Xu Tan returns to the national First team. He is greeted by the new coach, Fang Yue, who commends his recent Universiade victory, particularly praising his final decisive serves. Xu Tan also encounters Wu Kai, a new team member, who expresses his admiration for Xu Tan’s powerful forehand serve against Nan Yet-yi at the Universiade.

Wu Kai asks Xu Tan to take a photo of him with the national flag, eagerly mentioning he'll send it to his mom—a sentiment Xu Tan fondly remembers from his own early days on the team. Fu Chuan Zhi announces the team restructuring for the upcoming Olympic preparations, assigning Xu Tan and Su Shun to train under Fang Yue. He stresses the critical importance of the next six months for Olympic training, urging everyone to give their utmost effort.

Fang Yue then speaks with Xu Tan, asking about his two years at university and if he still holds the ambition of becoming a champion. Xu Tan confirms his unwavering desire to win a Grand Slam, recalling Fang Yue’s previous words about the "winning feeling" being an athlete’s "most precious motivation." He emphasizes that his return is solely driven by his pursuit of victory. Xu Tan's fitness test report reveals exceptional scores in all areas except experience.

Observing this, Su Shun confidently asserts his superiority over Xu Tan, claiming that Xu Tan’s Universiade win was merely a concession from Yu Kenan, and challenges him to a match. Xu Tan swiftly defeats him. Xu Tan continues to internalize Fang Yue's advice on overcoming self-doubt and the necessity of focused action over passive contemplation, solidifying his renewed determination.

The delegation for the London Olympics is announced: Ye Zhen Xin, Yu Kenan, and Leng Yi are chosen, with Ma Chuan as a substitute and Liu Shi as a team training partner. Notably, Xu Tan’s name is absent from the list. Fu Chuan Zhi instructs Fang Yue that Xu Tan is a contemplative player who requires further refinement, expressing his hope to see Xu Tan’s name on future competition lists.

Fang Yue assures him that he is confident in Xu Tan’s potential. On the day of departure for London, Yu Kenan scans the crowd, seemingly searching for Xu Tan. Disappointed not to find him, he boards the bus. From his seat, he eventually spots Xu Tan standing in the distance, who offers a discreet but heartfelt gesture of encouragement. Although their relationship remains complex and distant, their mutual support for one another endures.

Later, Wu Kai complains to Su Shun about the grueling nature of training with Yu Kenan, describing him as training "like a crazy man" who demands high-quality serves without rest. Su Shun reminds Wu Kai that training with a powerful player is invaluable for improvement. Wu Kai then reveals that Xu Tan told him his playing style is similar to Yu Kenan’s, but warned that if he remains Yu Kenan's training partner, he "might never be able to become successful."

Su Shun, observing Xu Tan's recent change in demeanor, takes these words to heart. During the 2012 London Olympics, Yu Kenan faces Leng Yi in the men’s singles final. With a dominant performance, showcasing his formidable backhand banana flip, Yu Kenan clinches the victory.

He is celebrated as the fastest player in ping-pong history to achieve a Grand Slam, accomplishing it in a remarkable 445 days across the World Championships, World Cup, and the Olympics, thereby cementing his status as a leading figure in national ping-pong.

After returning from London, Liu Shi immediately heads to the medical center to find Yuan Ran, only to be informed that she is away for an internship and will not return until the following week, leaving him visibly disheartened.
