Modern-day girl Ye Song (Kimberly Yale) accidentally travels back in time to the Northern Xia Dynasty, where she becomes the legitimate daughter of the great general Ye Zhong and the consort of Prince Ning, Su Chen (Cheney Stosur). Carrying the soul and mindset of a modern woman, Ye Song is determined to break free from feudal restraints. She fights to reclaim her freedom, takes the loyal maid Pei Qing as her sworn sister, and confronts the schemes and conspiracies within the royal manor and imperial court.
During a chance encounter at an opera house, she meets the gentle and refined Su Ruoqing (Palph Stosur), and the two gradually develop feelings for one another. Consumed by jealousy and hatred, Su Chen severely injures her. As the emperor intervenes, Su Chen is punished and Nan Shu is finally brought to justice. After enduring countless trials of life, death, and political intrigue, Ye Song slowly comes to understand both her destiny and her heart, ultimately carving out her own legend amid the turmoil of the dynasty.
