Wang Kuan and Xiao Jing, realizing they were being followed, skillfully evaded their pursuer, leaving Xue Ying to confront the mysterious individual. During their skirmish, Xue Ying discovered that the person bore the distinctive mark of the Xia people. Meanwhile, Zhao Jian's condition worsened as the poison spread throughout her body. She grew suspicious, reasoning that the Imperial Guards, tasked with capturing them alive, would never use poisoned arrows.

Wang Kuan and Xiao Jing soon returned, carrying what they believed to be the antidote. Zhao Jian immediately took the medicine. Outside, Wang Kuan and Yuan Zhongxin spoke about the arranged marriage between Wang Kuan and Zhao Jian. Wang Kuan promised Yuan Zhongxin that as soon as the current crisis was resolved, he would break off the engagement. Yuan Zhongxin, however, remained outwardly stubborn, refusing to admit his true feelings for Zhao Jian.

The Xia spy, apprehended by Xue Ying, was brought back for interrogation. Yuan Zhongxin questioned him and learned he was a low-ranking soldier from Xia's Wuzu Army, previously stationed outside the Grand Commandant's Mansion. He admitted to following Wei Yanei in an attempt to uncover the whereabouts of the wheeled cannon drawing. The spy further revealed that Xia indeed had a collaborator within the Imperial Guards, a high-ranking general who had leaked Chen Gong's transport route.

Zhao Jian, upon hearing this, deduced that Chen Gong could not have been killed by the Xia people; if they had, they would have already secured the drawing. Yuan Zhongxin also extracted information that the spy received orders at a specific tavern. They planned to ambush the Xia operatives at Yun's Tavern on Liu Street the following afternoon.

Initially, they considered handing the spy over to Dean Lu, but to their shock, the spy suddenly committed suicide by impaling himself on Xue Ying's blade, abruptly severing their direct lead. Despite taking the initial antidote, Zhao Jian showed no improvement, leading Wang Kuan to realize the medicine was fake. With Zhao Jian's time rapidly running out, Wang Kuan, in desperation, decided to return home to seek a genuine antidote.

At his family mansion, Wang Kuan knelt, pleading with his father for the medicine. His father, however, demanded that Wang Kuan unilaterally annul his engagement to Zhao Jian. Reluctantly, to save Zhao Jian's life, Wang Kuan agreed to write a divorce letter. But even after his concession, the Imperial Guards refused to provide the antidote, forcing Wang Kuan to return empty-handed. With only an hour left for Zhao Jian, Yuan Zhongxin grew frantic and argued with Wang Kuan.

Seeing their despair, Wei Yanei resolved to take a dangerous path: he would go home and plead with his father, Wei Zhuoran, for the antidote. At the Wei family mansion, Wei Yanei passionately begged his father. Wei Zhuoran relented but set a condition: Zhao Jian and Yuan Zhongxin must be delivered to the Imperial Guard's prison.

Wang Kuan and Xiao Jing argued that Zhao Jian's life was paramount, but Wei Yanei dramatically produced a blue-feather bone-corrosion arrow and stabbed himself, compelling his father to hand over the life-saving medicine. Meanwhile, Yuan Zhongxin built a brazier, holding the increasingly weak Zhao Jian to warm her. Believing she wouldn't survive, Zhao Jian asked Yuan Zhongxin to look after the other members of Section 7—Xiao Jing, Wei Yanei, and Xue Ying.

She confided that despite her vow to live a free life, Yuan Zhongxin's presence had been an unexpected turn, and she had fallen in love with him. As Zhao Jian lost consciousness, Yuan Zhongxin, unaware that she could no longer hear him, confessed his own love for her. Just then, Xiao Jing burst in with the true antidote, saving Zhao Jian's life.

Upon waking, Zhao Jian was out of danger, but the memory of her confession caused her to avert her gaze, unable to meet Yuan Zhongxin's eyes. Wang Kuan and Wei Yanei had not returned, prompting Yuan Zhongxin to question Xiao Jing about the antidote's origin. Her hesitant answers revealed that something had gone terribly wrong. Back at the Wei family mansion, Wei Yanei was confined to his room, and Wang Kuan was also imprisoned by Wei Zhuoran.

Wei Yanei appealed to his father to release Wang Kuan, but Wei Zhuoran stated that he had already sent Xiao Jing with the antidote and now demanded Zhao Jian and Yuan Zhongxin in exchange for Wang Kuan's freedom. Wei Zhuoran claimed that Wei Yanei's self-poisoning was a test to see what Yuan Zhongxin and Zhao Jian would sacrifice for him. Yuan Zhongxin instructed Xiao Jing to care for Zhao Jian while he ventured alone to rescue Wang Kuan.

Zhao Jian, trusting Yuan Zhongxin's capabilities, did not stop him, though she vowed to risk her own life to save him if he were captured. Yuan Zhongxin arrived at the Wei Mansion, thanked Wei Zhuoran for the antidote, and offered his own life in exchange for Wang Kuan's release. Wei Zhuoran agreed to free both Wang Kuan and Yuan Zhongxin, but with one condition: from that day forward, Wei Yanei must sever all ties with Section 7.

Yuan Zhongxin immediately accepted. He embraced Wei Yanei tightly, secretly conveying that he would wait for him outside the mansion the next day, emphasizing that Section 7 would face all fortunes and misfortunes together. After their emotional farewell, Yuan Zhongxin left the Wei Mansion. With Wang Kuan safely rescued, Yuan Zhongxin finalized their plans for the next day.

Xiao Jing, Wang Kuan, and Xue Ying were tasked with investigating the Xia spy situation at Yun's Tavern, while Yuan Zhongxin would wait outside the Wei Mansion to meet Wei Yanei. The following day, as Wang Kuan's group headed to the tavern, Zhao Jian accompanied Yuan Zhongxin to the Wei Mansion's outskirts, knowing that his true objective extended beyond rescuing Wei Yanei; he also sought to uncover the truth behind Chen Gong's death.
