The Four Episode 42 Recap
> The Four Recap
Princess Ziluo and Leng Xue's engagement was canceled, but this decision was not approved by the Emperor, and their marriage remained scheduled. Despite this, Leng Xue had already reconciled with Chu Limo, whom he deeply loved. Zhui Ming was deeply in love with Princess Ziluo, who initially ignored his affections. However, after canceling her engagement with Leng Xue, Princess Ziluo began to seriously consider her relationship with Zhui Ming.
She confided in Jiaoniang at Mingyue Tower, and Jiaoniang strongly encouraged her to reciprocate Zhui Ming's love. Meanwhile, Zhuge Zhengwo attempted to persuade King Xiang to retract the Emperor's command regarding the marriage, but King Xiang refused, citing the received betrothal gifts and the Emperor's unchangeable decision. Zhuge hoped that meritorious deeds by the famous trappers could still convince the Emperor.
Wu Qing tried to convince Zhui Ming to give up on Princess Ziluo and pursue Muxue instead, but Zhui Ming retorted that Wu Qing should move past his deceased love, Ruyan, and cherish Muxue. After Zhui Ming departed with the famous trappers, Princess Ziluo finally realized his true affection for her and understood that he was the one who consistently cared for and loved her.
Persuaded by Jiaoniang and her own realization, she disguised herself as a young eunuch and secretly escaped the palace to find Zhui Ming. An Shigeng had escaped the capital and established himself as a local tyrant in Chaoge Mountain. The Shenhou Mansion, led by Zhuge Zhengwo, discovered that An Shigeng might be planning to open the Huanyu Stone Cave to obtain a peerless martial arts manual. To stop him, Zhuge Zhengwo dispatched the famous trappers to Chaoge Mountain.
Muxue and Chu Limo accompanied them, forming a group of six. They traveled by horseback and eventually arrived at Fuxian Town. In Fuxian Town, the group encountered a series of cases where grooms were being killed by a suspected female ghost. They decided to remain and investigate. The "female ghost" was revealed to be Ji Yaohua, who had become the second-in-command of the White-Clad Saintess Sect, a cult founded by An Shigeng.
Ji Yaohua's personality had drastically changed after being betrayed by Leng Xue, and fueled by her hatred for lovers, she captured newlywed grooms to be used by An Shigeng for his martial arts training, returning only their bodies afterwards. Huilan and her beloved were among the victims; the female ghost ruined their wedding night and took her beloved.
Later, Wu Qing and Muxue visited Huilan to gather more information, but shortly after they left, Huilan herself was killed by Ji Yaohua. Fuxian Town was also An Shigeng's sphere of influence, and many white-clad masked women, members of his White-Clad Saintess Sect, were present. Leng Xue and Chu Limo encountered one such woman carrying a portrait of a "Saintess," which Chu Limo, with Leng Xue's assistance, managed to obtain.
Chu Limo suspected the person in the portrait might be her biological mother. While carrying this portrait, Chu Limo and Leng Xue arrived at an inn, where they witnessed a dispute between a scholar and the innkeeper. Using her mind-reading abilities, Chu Limo discovered that the innkeeper and a waiter were colluding to frame the scholar.
She intervened, exposing the waiter's slip-up, which led the indignant onlookers to confront the innkeeper, forcing the guilty innkeeper to cease his harassment of the scholar. Separately, Ling Yiyi and Tie Shou encountered two white-clad women, who were restrained by silk threads emanating from Ling Yiyi's hands. Leng Xue and Chu Limo also met a strange woman from the Western Regions named Xingyue. When Chu Limo attempted to read Xingyue's mind, she was discovered and nearly harmed.
Leng Xue fought Xingyue to protect Chu Limo, and during the altercation, a second painting fell from Xingyue. This painting depicted Bian Hongyao and bore an inscription with the name "Leng Huishan," identified as Leng Xue's father, which caused great confusion for both Leng Xue and Chu Limo.
