Sun Shijie reconciles with Wu Yuehong, admitting his feelings for Tao Yao were fleeting and that he now values Wu Yuehong. Seeing this, Tao Yao, realizing Sun Shijie no longer loves her and reminded by Song Lian that her unborn child is not Chen Boyuan's, plots to frame Wu Yuehong. She feigns friendship, then deliberately falls down the stairs, faking a miscarriage and accusing Wu Yuehong of pushing her. Jiang Taiyi confirms the miscarriage.
Despite Wu Yuehong's denials, Shen Shi, supported by Sun Xun, dismisses the matter to avoid further complications. Wu Yuehong realizes Tao Yao wants her divorced, but Tao Yao's plans are complicated by the Sun-Wu family alliance. Sun Shijie scolds Wu Yuehong for speaking ill of Tao Yao, leading Wu Yuehong to leave in anger. Lin Shaochun advises Wu Yuehong to leave the Sun family, believing it will expose Tao Yao's manipulative nature, but Wu Yuehong hesitates.
Meanwhile, Xu Fengqiao recognizes Tao Yao's cunning and warns her household staff to be vigilant. Xu Fengqiao later discovers Tao Yao has been mismanaging and misappropriating funds from the household accounts. When confronted, Tao Yao uses a debt owed to her by Sun Jingge as leverage to warn Xu Fengqiao against interfering in her affairs. Separately, Gu Ye, recovering from his injuries, attempts to win over Yao Dizhu, urging her to leave Sun Junhao, but she rejects his advances.
Sun Junhao investigates Gu Ye and discovers he lied about his past; his village, General's Slope, was destroyed by "Wild Wolves" a year ago, making his bandit capture story improbable. Yao Dizhu, initially distrustful, softens towards Gu Ye after he saves her from wolves on the mountain and carries her down after she sprains her ankle. However, when Sun Junhao finds them, Gu Ye declares his intention to marry Yao Dizhu, sparking jealousy in Sun Junhao.
Yao Dizhu diffuses the tension, calling Gu Ye a child. Sun Junhao, suspicious, orders A Jiu to watch Gu Ye, especially after learning he trains homing pigeons, fearing they are used for espionage. Gu Ye publicly demonstrates his control over the pigeons, forming the character "珠" with them, and professes his love again, momentarily swaying Yao Dizhu. Fearing he will lose Yao Dizhu, Sun Junhao proposes marriage, and she joyfully accepts.
However, the day before their wedding, soldiers are poisoned at a banquet, and a note from "Wild Wolf" threatens Sun Junhao, forcing him to cancel the wedding. Meanwhile, Sun Yulou visits his sister, Sun Youzhen, in the palace. Sun Youzhen tasks him with organizing the Grand Consort's funeral, suggesting it could be a path to promotion. Sun Yulou initially demurs, wishing to earn his rank independently, but agrees after she mentions Sun Xun.
He later takes Lin Shaochun shopping, where she selects a precious hairpin. Sun Yulou recognizes it as a funerary item belonging to the late Consort Yun, raising concerns about theft within the palace.
