Lu Zhiang told his family he wanted to choose liberal arts, but his father strongly opposed it. His parents firmly disagreed with him choosing liberal arts, instead forcing him to choose science, which they believed had a brighter future. On the matter of subject selection, Lu Zhiang and his father had a fierce conflict. Lu Zhiang's father sternly told Lu Zhiang that he must choose science, but Lu Zhiang insisted on defending his own choice.

Lu Zhiang's mother, wanting to prevent the father and son from reaching a stalemate, feigned illness to resolve their disagreement. Lu Zhiang's mother was proud of Lu Zhiang for daring to bravely express his thoughts. She supported her son's choice and tried her best to persuade Lu Zhiang's father. Lu Zhiang's mother believed that children should always go out and experience growth for themselves. His father's opposition made Lu Zhiang feel depressed.

He sought help from Fu Xiaosi but received no reply. Lu Zhiang felt utterly distraught. Fu Xiaosi's home was harmonious. Fu Xiaosi's father hoped Fu Xiaosi would choose science, echoing the idea of "father-son duo on the battlefield," while Fu Xiaosi's mother supported Fu Xiaosi choosing liberal arts. She didn't want Fu Xiaosi to be as busy with work as his father in the future, neglecting his family.

She also urged Fu Xiaosi to prepare for going abroad with Li Yanran. Fu Xiaosi didn't want to go abroad, but he didn't know how to tell his parents. Li Xia called his mother's factory to seek his mother's advice on his subject selection, but unexpectedly, the factory workers told him that the factory where his mother worked had long been shut down.

With his mother suddenly unemployed and facing a sudden change in his family, Li Xia's nerves were taut, and he fell into deep distress. Lu Zhiang submitted his liberal arts selection form to the teacher, feeling very relaxed. Li Xia was pacing in the corridor, hesitating. Lu Zhiang suddenly appeared from behind Li Xia, snatched Li Xia's form without a word, only to find that Li Xia had chosen science. Lu Zhiang felt upset and confiscated Li Xia's registration form.

In class, Li Xia passed notes to Lu Zhiang, constantly pleading with Lu Zhiang to return his registration form, but Lu Zhiang entreated Li Xia to change back to liberal arts. Li Xia submitted the registration form to Teacher Wenren. Teacher Wenren was surprised by Li Xia's choice and showed Li Xia his transcript for analysis. Li Xia's strengths were in liberal arts, yet he had chosen science.

Teacher Wenren wanted to persuade Li Xia to think carefully, but Li Xia insisted on his opinion. Fu Xiaosi was very distressed upon learning that Li Xia had chosen science; even his favorite painting couldn't calm his restless heart. Lu Zhiang invited Fu Xiaosi to play basketball together, which just so happened to resolve Fu Xiaosi's troubles. The two played basketball together.

Lu Zhiang didn't care about the outcome of the game and didn't try his best to compete with Fu Xiaosi. In the end, Fu Xiaosi won. He told Lu Zhiang that he liked Li Xia, and then quietly walked away. Lu Zhiang heard Fu Xiaosi's feelings for Li Xia firsthand and felt a strange sense of loss. Torn, melancholic, hesitant, what choice should Lu Zhiang make between friendship and love? He didn't know.

Li Xia returned home for the holidays, heavy-hearted. His mother bought him his favorite cake, but Li Xia didn't want his mother to keep toiling for him. His mother's unemployment made Li Xia's family situation even more difficult. He swore that he would study hard to let his mother live a happy and comfortable life. Sometimes, we cannot blame fate for its injustice, because sometimes, it also treats us kindly.

We cannot rush for success, and because of future worries, forget the path we must walk now. Cheng Qiqi was troubled by the subject selection. As an art student, she wanted to truly live once according to her own ideas, transferring from the art class to the liberal arts class. Cheng Qiqi mustered up the courage to gauge her father's reaction, but before she could even speak, her mother stopped her.

Her mother hoped Cheng Qiqi wouldn't contradict her father and would follow the path her family had arranged for her. Unable to express her own thoughts, Cheng Qiqi felt sad. Since childhood, she had never truly fought for herself, doing everything step by step according to her parents' wishes, only to end up feeling like a walking dead person. Feeling depressed, she called Fu Xiaosi.

In her saddest and most wronged moments, she always thought of Fu Xiaosi first, because with Fu Xiaosi, she could always find comfort and gentle companionship. The call between Fu Xiaosi and Cheng Qiqi was overheard by Li Yanran. She secretly opened the letter Cheng Qiqi had sent to Fu Xiaosi. Displeased, she decided to take action to frame Cheng Qiqi. So, she stealthily tampered with the letter and posted it on the school's bulletin board.

After subject selection concluded, all the students embarked on their new semester's journey. However, Li Xia's seat remained empty, leaving Lu Zhiang and Fu Xiaosi feeling empty inside. Suddenly, a gentle knock came from the door, and a familiar figure appeared in the classroom: Li Xia had returned. Li Xia came back to choose liberal arts, and everyone was happy for him, but an awkwardness grew between brothers Lu Zhiang and Fu Xiaosi.

The letter on the bulletin board from Cheng Qiqi confessing her feelings to Lu Zhiang caused a stir throughout the school. All the students mocked Cheng Qiqi. Cheng Qiqi tore down the letter from the bulletin board and confronted Fu Xiaosi with it, mistakenly believing that Fu Xiaosi had trampled on her sincere feelings by posting the letter. She intended to break ties with Fu Xiaosi. Only when Fu Xiaosi opened the letter did he suddenly understand Cheng Qiqi's words.

Heartbeats often come without warning. What moved Cheng Qiqi at first sight was Fu Xiaosi appearing in her line of vision. She kept trying to get closer to Fu Xiaosi, yet all Fu Xiaosi ever left her was his back. Perhaps it was a mistake from the beginning, but she couldn't stop this mistake and could only let it continue. In the end, she deeply hoped that it would be herself who remained by Fu Xiaosi's side.
