After navigating numerous obstacles, Dan Qing and her team finally secure a cooperation agreement with Bao Hei. However, the victory feels hollow to Dan Qing, who realizes that Bao Hei’s compliance is merely a superficial test rather than a genuine commitment. During their meeting, Bao Hei remains elusive, settling on a plan but refusing to disclose the specifics until the very moment they are set to depart.

Despite the uncertainty, Dan Qing tells Leng Qiming that they must proceed and adapt as they go, noting that Bao Hei's final test is likely directed at someone else entirely. Meanwhile, Leng Qiming is preoccupied with his father’s declining health. He spends his evening on the phone desperately searching for a 24-hour caretaker for the elderly man, who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

He finds that temporary workers are unwilling to take on such a demanding role, and while he understands his father's refusal to be hospitalized, the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to manage. His focus is soon pulled back to the case when Geng Tianchou reaches out to Miao Xiaolan. The following day, Geng Tianchou meets Miao Xiaolan at an amusement park. He arrives early, mocking her for the failure of his mother, Jiang Yuzhen, and Zhao Junxin.

He makes a staggering demand for five million yuan, threatening to hand over a recording of Miao Xiaolan egging his mother on if she refuses to pay. He justifies the price by calculating his mother’s insurance payout and the contents of Liao Guangyong's safe, adding an extra million as a fee for her years of service. He even threatens her son, Hua, mentioning that as a civil servant, Hua's reputation would be ruined by the scandal.

Miao Xiaolan claims she cannot withdraw such a large amount from the company without drawing police attention and offers him one million yuan the following day at her home instead. Unbeknownst to them, Leng Qiming and Ye Qian are watching the entire exchange, though they realize that without a wiretap, they need the physical evidence Geng Tianchou is holding to finalize their case. The next day, Geng Tianchou visits Miao Xiaolan’s villa to collect the money.

He is awestruck by the luxury of the house, comparing his own home to a chicken coop. Miao Xiaolan hands him a bank card and a deposit slip for one million yuan, but Geng Tianchou refuses to surrender the incriminating video until the full five million is paid. Under the guise of hospitality, Miao Xiaolan offers him a drink.

Just as the police arrive, Miao Xiaolan drinks from her glass and immediately accuses Geng Tianchou of masterminding the murder of Liao Guangyong. The police intervene and discover that the drink contains the same rat poison used to kill Song Ying and Liao Guangyong. Realizing he has been framed and that the bank card Miao Xiaolan gave him contains less than twenty yuan, Geng Tianchou desperately tries to prove his innocence.

He tells the police that the evidence is on a flash drive hidden behind the air conditioner in his bedroom. The video on the drive reveals a heart-wrenching confession from Jiang Yuzhen. She admits to poisoning the victims at Miao Xiaolan's request to ensure a better future for her son.

The recording is filled with maternal advice on how Geng Tianchou should take care of himself after she is gone, proving that Miao Xiaolan was the true architect of the crimes. Miao Xiaolan eventually regains consciousness in the hospital, her guilt now fully exposed. Her son, Hua, visits her, but the reunion is cold. He informs her that he has no interest in the company or the assets she fought so ruthlessly to secure for him.

He explains that he is content with his own job and life, and has no desire to manage a business built on such a dark foundation. In another part of the system, Zhao Junxin has completely lost her grip on reality. In prison, she exists in a delusional state, hallucinating that she is peacefully at home, singing her son to sleep.

Relieved that the Liao Guangyong case is nearing its end, Ye Qian and Han Zhao organize a surprise birthday barbecue for Si Yuanlong, presenting him with a gift to celebrate. However, a new mystery emerges elsewhere. During a cemetery relocation project for a new reservoir, villagers discover an unclaimed grave containing a skeleton without a coffin. Forensic examination by Ziwu and Jiao Lei reveals that the victim was a man, approximately 1.

7 meters tall, who was murdered two to four years ago. Based on the specific wear patterns on his cheap cloth shoes, they deduce the deceased was likely a driver of a manual-transmission vehicle, such as a taxi or ride-share car. With the Liao Guangyong case officially closed, Hua decides to sell the company and donate all the proceeds to charity as a way to atone for his mother's sins.

Meanwhile, Ziwu uses the victim’s skull to successfully reconstruct a facial likeness. After cross-referencing the image with missing person records, the police identify the deceased as Ding Youcai, a former taxi driver who disappeared three years ago, providing a new lead for the investigators to pursue.
