Huo strikes Dan Qing in a fit of feigned jealousy, and she retaliates by grabbing a kitchen cleaver, putting on a convincing performance for their observer.
Meanwhile, the police arrest Wu Da, who confesses to murdering his ex-wife, Wang Xiaole. He admits his resentment grew after their divorce because she constantly belittled him and fixated on past grievances from their wedding. This toxic dynamic eventually escalated into frequent domestic violence. Wu Da reveals he meticulously framed Niu Bosheng, choosing him as a scapegoat because of his highly predictable lifestyle.
Following a plan that Ye Qian had accurately theorized, Wu Da stabbed Wang Xiaole seventeen times to represent the seventeen years she had known Niu. He even spent a significant amount of time practicing Niu’s handwriting and mimicking his specific knife techniques to ensure the frame-up was airtight. With the murder case closed, Captain Lin and Director Zhao from the provincial narcotics division arrive at the station late at night.
Ye Qian is haunted by his recent encounter with Chen Yumo, struggling to understand why she is involved in drug trafficking and why she intentionally hid the nature of her business from him. Dan Qing assures him that she will have news for him soon. The peace is shattered that night when a man armed with an axe breaks into a residence. The following day, police are called to a desolate field where a dismembered body has been scattered across multiple locations, with another dump site discovered five kilometers away. While Ye Qian prepares wontons for the team, they begin profiling the suspect.
They believe the killer is a local farmer, as the gunny sacks used to transport the remains contain peanut shells and vegetable scraps. The perpetrator’s familiarity with the terrain and the strategic placement of the remains suggest a local resident. Si Yuanlong notes that dismembering a body would require a power saw and significant physical strength. He spends the night simulating marks left by various saws on bone, hoping to identify the specific tool used in the crime.
