As the new millennium arrives, Li Juan returns from Shenyang to Shenzhen to celebrate Fang Wanzhi’s birthday. Along with Gao Xiang, they gather at a familiar street food stall, the very place where Wanzhi and Qian used to sing to earn money years ago. Gao Xiang invites Mr. Xu from the bank, who expresses his deep respect for Wanzhi.

He notes that the bank was aware she had been scammed in the past, yet she managed to pay back every cent of her loans through sheer hard work, establishing a solid reputation. Mr. Xu promises that the credit department will fully support her future endeavors. During the celebration, Qian makes a surprise appearance, dedicating a heartfelt song to Wanzhi, her "irreplaceable sister." With her debts finally cleared, Wanzhi begins to contemplate her future.

Li Juan, who has just finished her vocational diploma and applied for college, encourages Wanzhi to also complete her degree. However, Wanzhi feels a different calling. She wants to transition from being a small-scale vendor to working within a large corporation to learn about modern management and organizational structures. She decides to apply for the position of Assistant to the President at Hongtu Trading.

Before leaving her current business, Wanzhi promotes Li Juan to General Manager of Global Distribution for their apparel company, entrusting her with full responsibility despite Li Juan's initial hesitation. During her interview at Hongtu Trading, Wanzhi is honest about not having a college diploma, providing instead a verified certificate of her studies. Ms. Yao Qianyun finds her more trustworthy than candidates with fake degrees. The company's president, Yan Ziwei, personally conducts the final interview.

When Wanzhi highlights that her experience being scammed has made her exceptionally cautious and detail-oriented—perfect traits for an assistant—Yan Ziwei notes that former bosses usually have too much ambition for such a role. Wanzhi counters that without ambition, she never would have sought a position at such a prestigious company. Despite the tense exchange, Wanzhi is surprised to receive an offer for the job. Wanzhi’s first day is a steep learning curve.

Yao Qianyun briefs her on the strict rules: her phone must be on twenty-four hours a day, she must be discreet with trade secrets, and she must provide impeccable service to the president’s high-level clients. Wanzhi's first major mistake occurs during a dinner meeting between Yan Ziwei and a respected elder, Mr. Chen. Wanzhi calls for the driver, Mr. Huo, to bring the car around while the guest is still present.

This breach of etiquette infuriates Yan Ziwei, who promptly tells HR to fire the driver. Wanzhi attempts to take the blame, explaining she gave the order, but Yan Ziwei remains firm, telling her not to lecture him on how to do his job. Later, Mr. Huo tells Wanzhi not to feel guilty, as he had been warned about this rule many times before and simply had a moment of confusion.

Over time, Wanzhi becomes more proficient, even catching subtle errors in English documents that others missed. However, a major crisis emerges when Yan Ziwei and other top executives travel to Hong Kong for a board meeting held on a cruise ship in international waters, leaving them without a phone signal for three days. During this time, Tong Fan, a manager at the company, pressures Wanzhi regarding a massive new order from the Yinshidai Group.

Mr. Gan, the head of Yinshidai, threatens to terminate their partnership if the deal isn't confirmed immediately. Tong Fan, secretly acting as a mole for Yinshidai, insists that Wanzhi use the president’s office computer to reply to the email and confirm the order. He appeals to her sense of duty, claiming the company's interests are at stake. Wanzhi performs her own financial analysis and calculates that the order could bring in eight million RMB in profit.

To save the relationship with a key client, she makes the unauthorized decision to confirm the deal via email, while also sending a detailed report of her reasoning to Yan Ziwei’s inbox. Upon Yan Ziwei’s return, the truth comes to light. Tong Fan had already accepted an offer from Yinshidai and stayed only to sabotage Hongtu Trading.

While Wanzhi thought she had secured a profit, she was unaware that material costs had actually doubled; by confirming the order at the original price, she had inadvertently committed the company to a significant loss. Yao Qianyun is livid and demands Wanzhi be fired for her overstepping. However, Yan Ziwei is impressed by Wanzhi's initiative, her emergency thought process, and the accuracy of the financial work she did with the limited information she had. Instead of firing her, he dismisses Tong Fan and instructs Wanzhi to see the traitor out, choosing to keep her on and help her learn from the high-stakes mistake.
