At the age of seven, Zhu Xiaoying (Emma Doyle) drank poison in place of Xu Feimo (Stephen Grayson), leaving her mind forever frozen in childhood. Years later, on her way to fulfill a marriage promise, she mistakenly ends up in the bridal sedan of the provincial governor, Xu Fengqing (Dylan Everett).
What began as a wedding mix-up slowly becomes the gentlest turning point in her life. He flies kites with her, builds her a swing, searches everywhere for a cure, and patiently teaches her to write her own name stroke by stroke. For the first time, Xiaoying learns that she, too, deserves to be loved with tenderness.
But when the truth is finally revealed, her childhood sweetheart comes searching for her, forcing her to stand at the crossroads between past promises and newfound warmth. In the end, she chooses the man who taught her how to love herself.
