After the college entrance examination, students gathered for a celebratory karaoke party. Mo Yuhua took a brave step, approaching Zhou Ziyi to confess her feelings. She told him that despite not having spoken much during their three years of high school, he was different to her and she had developed a fondness for him. However, Zhou Ziyi politely declined, suggesting they remain good friends, citing that his friends were waiting for him.

Mo Yuhua was deeply hurt by his indifferent response. Inside, Cheng Zheng wanted to sing "Courage" with Su Yunjin, but Meng Xue interrupted, insisting on singing with Cheng Zheng instead. Meng Xue pointed out that she hadn't taken the college entrance exams and was soon moving abroad, asking if Cheng Zheng couldn't grant her this simple wish. Reluctantly, Cheng Zheng allowed her to start the song while tightly holding Su Yunjin's hand.

Feeling uncomfortable, Su Yunjin pulled away and went to the restroom, where she found Mo Yuhua crying. Mo Yuhua confided in her, admitting she knew Zhou Ziyi didn't like her but she still wanted to try, now realizing how foolish she had been. She felt this was the definitive end for them. Mo Yuhua then decided to leave the party alone, rejecting Su Yunjin's offer to accompany her, stating that this sad memory should be hers alone to bear.

Shortly after, Meng Xue found Su Yunjin in the restroom. She confronted Su Yunjin directly, stating that she and Cheng Zheng belonged to entirely different worlds and that Su Yunjin should abandon any romantic notions about him. Meng Xue added that it would be better for everyone if Su Yunjin backed off before either of them got hurt.

She reiterated her stance from a previous disagreement, saying she wouldn't apologize for her actions regarding a donation, as she didn't believe she was wrong, and just as they had no common ground, neither did Su Yunjin and Cheng Zheng. Su Yunjin, already disheartened, quietly walked away. As the party ended, heavy rain began to fall. Su Yunjin and Cheng Zheng walked their bicycles in the downpour, each lost in thought.

Cheng Zheng asked Su Yunjin about her university choice, suggesting she consider universities in Beijing if her scores were good. In a sudden gesture, Su Yunjin embraced Cheng Zheng, a silent attempt to conclude their burgeoning feelings and fulfill a past promise. Stunned, Cheng Zheng stood still as Su Yunjin quickly pulled away and cycled off.

She rode for a block before breaking down in tears, whispering that she was sorry and that going to Shanghai was her only option to be close to her mother. She reflected on their differences, acknowledging his endless possibilities compared to her singular, focused path, and believed that distance would eventually fade their connection, allowing him to start a new life without her. Su Yunjin successfully enrolled in Shanghai's University Yaodong.

To her surprise, Zhou Ziyi also became a student there, having been accepted into the sports faculty. He explained he had never truly intended to study abroad, as his English was poor, and he wouldn't gain much from it. Zhou Ziyi, having already familiarized himself with the campus due to early training for an upcoming tournament, eagerly helped Su Yunjin carry her luggage to her dorm and even bought her various daily necessities like cologne water, mosquito coils, and soap.

Su Yunjin's new roommates—Li Hui, Liu Yu, and An Ran—were impressed by Zhou Ziyi's attentiveness and immediately assumed he was her boyfriend. Su Yunjin tried to explain they were just high school friends, but her roommates were unconvinced. To prevent Zhou Ziyi from shouting her name from downstairs, she reluctantly gave him her dorm's landline number. Zhou Ziyi, however, immediately forwarded the number to Cheng Zheng, who had gone to a university in Beijing.

Separated by distance, Cheng Zheng carefully cut out his and Su Yunjin's images from a graduation photo and pasted them onto a picture of a Ferris wheel, symbolizing a long-held dream. Later, he called Su Yunjin's dorm number, but remained silent on the line, simply finding happiness in hearing her voice. Su Yunjin's friendship with Mo Yuhua remained strong even after they started university.

Su Yunjin informed Mo Yuhua that Zhou Ziyi had not gone abroad and was, in fact, studying at their university. Mo Yuhua maintained a calm exterior, but later, in her room, she secretly recorded her persistent feelings for Zhou Ziyi, content with the possibility of seeing him from afar, noting that it was better than being separated by an entire ocean.

Meanwhile, Su Yunjin sought part-time work to ease her mother's financial burden, as her family was still in heavy debt. She accepted a promotional job for Nongfu Spring on campus, which offered over a thousand yuan a month if she worked daily, with flexible hours around her classes. She also engaged in promoting travel packages for a company called World Tour. In Beijing, Cheng Zheng’s cousin, Zhang Yue, expressed her frustration.

She confronted Cheng Zheng, accusing him of breaking their agreement for him to join the family business after university so she could finally pursue her dream of owning a bar and living an elegant life. She criticized his choice to attend a university in Beijing instead of Shanghai, given his academic prowess.

Cheng Zheng retorted that Zhang Yue, who hadn't taken college entrance exams, wouldn't understand the complexities of university choices, implying it wasn't a simple matter of him choosing where he wanted to go, and rhetorically questioned why he didn't attend university in Shanghai. Zhang Yue insisted he return to the company for an internship after three years.

While Cheng Zheng was speaking with Zhang Yue, a university friend named Chen Xiaoyu approached, assuming Cheng Zheng was there to see her drama club event. After Zhang Yue left, Chen Xiaoyu inquired about her, admiring Zhang Yue's beauty and "iron lady" demeanor, but Cheng Zheng dismissed it, saying he was used to her. Chen Xiaoyu then asked Cheng Zheng if she was pretty and invited him to her drama club event, an offer he politely declined.

Back in Shanghai, Su Yunjin was promoting travel packages on campus when a sudden downpour began. Her senior colleague, dismissing the rain as a typical Shanghai drizzle, quickly left. As Su Yunjin struggled to gather the soaked promotional materials, a fellow student, Shen Juan, came to her aid, helping her rescue the flyers and preventing her from being completely drenched. He advised her to always pack up earlier when bad weather was imminent.
