Never Gone Episode 29 Recap
> Never Gone Recap
Shen Juan's ambition continued to grow as he secretly began to establish his own company, keeping his plans hidden from Zhang Yue and Zhang Jinmeng. In a clandestine meeting, Shen Juan discussed a project with a partner who was upset that Shen Juan was intercepting it from Hengkai, a company close to signing the contract. Shen Juan defended his actions, stating Hengkai's quoted price was too high and that their new venture could yield greater profits.
He rationalized that the senior figures at Hengkai were eager to see him in trouble anyway, and he was handling the "dirty work." His partner, while urging decisiveness, accepted the terms, requesting cash for his share once the payment was transferred to Shen Juan’s card. Meanwhile, Su Yunjin requested leave from Xu Zhibeng to attend her scholarship award ceremony at her university.
Xu Zhibeng approved, calling her diligent and noting that his recent "advice for a graduate" to her was well-timed. He then presented her with a "final test" before she fully entered the professional world: confronting Meng Xue. Su Yunjin met Meng Xue, who, now aware of MD Network's maneuvers, angrily accused the company of using "dirty tricks."
Su Yunjin calmly responded that while she was personally committed to the project, Meng Xue's attitude and past issues indicated a lack of commitment, ultimately contributing to MD Network choosing another partner. Meng Xue accused Su Yunjin of exploiting personal feelings for business, but Su Yunjin retorted that it was Meng Xue's personal emotions that cost her company a significant deal. Xu Zhibeng, observing the exchange, praised Su Yunjin for her sharp retorts, noting that Meng Xue's "smartness backfired."
He then tasked Su Yunjin with an even more crucial mission: to welcome Chuck, who was arriving next week, and convince him to join MD Network, calling it her "first workplace challenge." Mo Yuhua continued to care for an injured Zhou Ziyi in the hospital, maintaining a facade of casual friendship. They played a trivia game, where Zhou Ziyi teased her about her medical knowledge.
He remarked on how much she had changed, no longer always agreeing with him, which made their dynamic feel "more like friends now." Later, Jin Zi brought children from Zhou Ziyi’s football team to visit. The kids chatted lively, sharing school gossip and lifting Zhou Ziyi's spirits.
He advised them against early romance, jokingly blaming it for his failure to join the national team, but encouraged them to bravely pursue love in college, much like a football player fights for every ball. As Jin Zi prepared to leave with the children, Zhou Ziyi asked him to push his wheelchair outside for some fresh air. During their time alone, Zhou Ziyi pressed Jin Zi about his feelings for Mo Yuhua.
Jin Zi confessed that while he didn't have a "skin-deep liking," he wanted to deepen his affection. He acknowledged Mo Yuhua's child and her lesser feelings for him, admitting it wasn't an ideal situation, yet he felt "like a good man" when with her. When Zhou Ziyi asked if he'd still like her without a child, Jin Zi said yes, but perhaps wouldn't consider marriage, merely a girlfriend. Zhou Ziyi found Jin Zi's stance unusual but "cool."
He then challenged Jin Zi, asking why he didn't pursue Mo Yuhua more actively, especially when it was "the best time." Jin Zi explained he only wished for Mo Yuhua's happiness and didn't want his own joy to come from her suffering. Zhou Ziyi dismissed this as overthinking, urging Jin Zi to "make the kick" and boldly confess his feelings. Suddenly, Zhou Ziyi spotted his pregnant wife, Chen Jie Jie, arriving for a prenatal check-up.
He frantically made Jin Zi hide him, explaining he had told Chen Jie Jie he was "overseas for a job" and didn't want her to worry. Moments later, Zhou Ziyi received a phone call from "My dear wifey," speaking to her sweetly and reassuring her he wasn't busy and would be home soon after his "competition," while Mo Yuhua listened, trying to appear unfazed.
Later, while Mo Yuhua was still by his side, Zhou Ziyi received a phone call from his father who, instead of offering comfort for his broken leg, gave him a lecture. Mo Yuhua gently reminded him that people express concern differently. Su Yunjin, holding her scholarship and graduation certificate, found herself reflecting on her deceased father, feeling she had lived up to his hopes. She remembered his past advice: to be diligent, never lose hope, and not to overwork herself.
She had promised him she would get into a good university, find part-time work, and secure an internship to ease the burden on her parents. Her father, proud, had remarked that his daughter had grown up and was no longer the "little girl he remembered." Zhang Yue had dinner with her father, Zhang Jinmeng, expressing her wish for him to accept Shen Juan.
Zhang Jinmeng, however, maintained that she hadn't truly seen through Shen Juan, citing his recent string of unsuccessful small projects at the company. Zhang Yue fiercely defended her husband, even reminding her father that his own projects weren't always successful. Zhang Jinmeng agreed that mistakes happen, but stressed the importance of acknowledging one's errors. Zhang Yue playfully threatened him with a penalty drink if he continued to discuss life or work.
Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin took a leisurely walk, reminiscing about their high school days. Cheng Zheng asked if she regretted "hating" him back then. Su Yunjin clarified that she never hated him; her focus was solely on her studies to honor her father's wishes and alleviate her mother's burdens. She admitted she simply didn't know how to respond to him and so chose to ignore him.
Cheng Zheng understood, acknowledging his own immaturity at the time, influenced by Zhou Ziyi. Su Yunjin then expressed deep gratitude, recalling a difficult period where his presence made her feel capable and safe, especially when he accompanied her to the hospital. She told him he was a good person. Cheng Zheng, reclaiming what he "lost in secondary school," leaned in for a kiss.
Their intimate moment was interrupted when Jin Zi happened to pass by, causing Su Yunjin to blush shyly. Jin Zi, a teacher, playfully chastised them for "lingering on the field" instead of being responsible. Later, as Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin were about to leave, Xu Zhibeng called Su Yunjin, informing her that Chuck had arrived early due to a headhunter's interest.
He urgently tasked her with preparing a data comparison of Chinese internet companies, highlighting MD Network's advantages, for his meeting with Chuck the next day. This meant Su Yunjin had to work overtime. Before leaving, Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin encouraged Jin Zi one last time to be a man and confess his feelings to Mo Yuhua.
Cheng Zheng stopped by a roadside stall and bought four pots of Michelia figo for Su Yunjin, knowing her fondness for the flower and also wanting to support the elderly vendor. Su Yunjin affectionately teased him about his kindness. Back home, as Su Yunjin worked on her laptop, Cheng Zheng lovingly washed fruit for her, jokingly remarking it was his first time doing so for anyone.
Su Yunjin teased him about his poor peeling skills, so he settled for cutting an apple for her. He stayed by her side, distracting her with light chatter, even recounting how her "death stare" from their early days inspired his fierce online game avatar, "Killer Su." He promised to be silent, content to simply keep her company. That evening, Zhang Yue and Shen Juan were at home, watching television.
Zhang Yue, reflecting on a drama they were watching, mused about married life. Shen Juan humorously suggested that couples "bicker" to avoid boredom, noting that "bickering makes things sweeter" but expressing a fear of a day when they wouldn't even argue. He promised to always engage if she ever wanted to bicker.
Zhang Yue then asked if he would be working later, to which he confirmed, explaining he needed to revise a project budget that his superior, Ms. Zhang, had not approved. He emphasized his desire for the chairman's approval, rather than her simply greenlighting it as his wife. Before going to bed, Zhang Yue raised the topic of having children, hoping a child would keep her company when he was busy and appease her father. Shen Juan confessed he hadn't thought about it, to which Zhang Yue, understanding, simply told him to get back to his work.
