Never Gone Episode 22 Recap
> Never Gone Recap
Cheng Zheng received a notification from Human Resource about the upcoming intern evaluation, which would determine whether interns would be retained. He already knew the company rule: each department could only keep one intern, putting him and Su Yunjin in direct competition. To ensure Su Yunjin's spot, Cheng Zheng met with Miss Guo to tender his resignation. During a staff meeting, Miss Guo excitedly announced that the company had successfully secured the Paipai Project, which would require collaboration with Hengkai.
Su Yunjin was happy about the news but noticed Cheng Zheng's absence. A colleague then informed her that Cheng Zheng had already resigned that morning. Su Yunjin approached Miss Guo to inquire about Cheng Zheng's departure. Miss Guo confirmed his resignation and explained the harsh reality of the workplace: only one intern from their department could be retained, emphasizing that this was the nature of competition. Feeling disheartened, Su Yunjin later found Cheng Zheng waiting for her outside after work.
They went to a baozi shop, and when Su Yunjin tried to apologize, Cheng Zheng quickly stopped her. He sincerely claimed that he only interned to get a certificate and that the position was more suitable for Su Yunjin's professional goals, as he was an independent designer. Su Yunjin thanked him for his help during the internship, not for giving up the position. Cheng Zheng noticed a change in her, feeling she had become more "lovable."
Seizing the moment, he suggested a weekend road trip with Mo Yuhua, Zhou Ziyi, and Jin Zi. Su Yunjin paused briefly, then happily agreed. The five friends checked into their hotel. Su Yunjin discreetly asked Mo Yuhua if Jin Zi was interested in her (Mo Yuhua). Mo Yuhua playfully dodged the question, turning the tables to tease Su Yunjin about Cheng Zheng, which made Su Yunjin blush. Later, during dinner, they discussed their ideal wedding plans.
Zhou Ziyi envisioned a romantic and grand beach wedding on an island, while Cheng Zheng preferred a retro style, with a sedan chair and a boat with a black awning. Zhou Ziyi then suggested they all go stargazing later that evening. To create an opportunity for Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin to be alone, Mo Yuhua, Zhou Ziyi, and Jin Zi deliberately wandered off. As Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin strolled in the evening, he professed his love for her.
Just as he finished speaking, the lights around them suddenly went out due to a power outage, startling Su Yunjin. Cheng Zheng immediately took her hand, and this time, she didn't pull away. When they emerged from the darkness, Zhou Ziyi and the others were smiling, seemingly aware that the two had finally gotten together. Everyone then helped the hotel staff hang lanterns to decorate for an upcoming wedding.
Cheng Zheng lifted Su Yunjin to help her hang lanterns in high places, sharing sweet, joyful moments. Back in their room, Mo Yuhua, curious about the evening's developments, pressed Su Yunjin for details. Su Yunjin was vague, stating she didn't know how it happened. Mo Yuhua, however, insightfully suggested that love needs a "spark." She checked Su Yunjin's sweaty palms, proclaiming that was the "spark."
Later that night, Su Yunjin and Cheng Zheng found themselves unable to sleep and sat outside talking. Cheng Zheng reflected on how some people remain constant in one's life, just like them. He thanked her for teaching him to prioritize himself and pursue his own ideals, admitting his past childishness in being upset when he thought she didn't like him.
Su Yunjin finally confessed that she wasn't unaffected by him, but feared she "couldn't take" the intensity of such a relationship. She expressed her desire to be by his side, to share his happiness and comfort him in his sadness. Cheng Zheng then earnestly asked her to be with him. As they leaned in for a kiss, Zhou Ziyi suddenly shouted, interrupting them. Su Yunjin, embarrassed, ran off, while Cheng Zheng chased Zhou Ziyi in exasperation.
The next day, a wedding was scheduled at the hotel. The bride, Chen Jie Jie, a wealthy young woman, was determined to marry a poor local man despite her family's strong disapproval. Her father, Uncle Chen, had already convinced the groom not to show up for the wedding. However, Chen Jie Jie defiantly revealed to her father that she was pregnant. Uncle Chen was furious and attempted to force his daughter away. Zhou Ziyi, recognizing Uncle Chen, stepped forward to mediate, looking worriedly at the distressed bride.
