Arriving at the hotel for the negotiation, Tong Wei’s skirt is accidentally stained with milk by a child. A kind woman named Liu offers her clothes, but they are unsuitable. Tong Wei then calls Cui Xi to bring a spare outfit from her car. After changing, Tong Wei meets Ke Wan’s representatives, Yang Xiao and Zhao Chenxi.
She immediately recognizes Zhao Chenxi, which impresses Zhao Chenxi, who later reveals to Yang Xiao that she had orchestrated the milk spill to embarrass Tong Wei. Noticing that Xie Xiaofei has not arrived, Tong Wei instructs her team to prevent him from showing up, explaining that a late arrival would be seen as contempt, whereas his absence could be excused. She assigns Manager Li to act as Xie Corporation's representative.
As the negotiation meeting begins, Yang Xiao questions Xie Xiaofei's absence. Tong Wei quickly concocts an excuse, stating that Xie Xiaofei is unwell and not accustomed to the local climate, promising that he will arrange a compensatory banquet later. Just as she finishes, Xie Xiaofei bursts into the room while on a phone call, appearing disheveled. Tong Wei tries to usher him out to maintain her fabricated story, but Xie Xiaofei ignores her.
He openly disrespects Yang Xiao, inviting him to drink and dine on The Bund after the talks. Yang Xiao, feeling his company has been gravely insulted, leads Zhao Chenxi and their team out of the meeting. Tong Wei desperately chases after them, profusely apologizing on Xie Xiaofei’s behalf and taking full responsibility, pleading for another chance to demonstrate their sincerity, but Yang Xiao remains unresponsive.
Back in the meeting room, Tong Wei confronts Xie Xiaofei, but he offers no detailed explanation, simply taking all the blame. Yang Xiao expresses his frustration about Xie Xiaofei’s behavior to Zhao Chenxi. Zhao Chenxi, however, senses that Xie Xiaofei's actions were deliberate to disrupt the negotiations. She finds his rudeness illogical and believes there is an ulterior motive, vowing to investigate the matter further. Meanwhile, Tong Wei faces severe repercussions.
Her boss, Zhou, informs her that the Ke Wan and Xie Corporation project will be reassigned to Xiao Xiang. Tong Wei angrily confronts Xiao Xiang, but Zhou does not intervene. After Xiao Xiang leaves, Zhou explains the gravity of the situation: Xie Corporation’s representatives reported the day’s failure directly to their New York headquarters, blaming the negotiator for incompetence, which led to Tong Wei’s removal. Zhou assigns Tong Wei a different case and instructs her to take a temporary leave.
Undaunted, Tong Wei immediately throws herself into her new work project. Later, as her team prepares for a meeting in a pre-booked conference room, they find Xiao Xiang and his team already occupying it. To avoid further conflict, Tong Wei, out of respect for Manager Chen who apologized, allows Xiao Xiang to keep the room.
In the lounge area, Tong Wei informs her team that she will be taking a few days off and assigns them tasks for their next case. While Cui Xi expresses concern for Tong Wei's spirits and suggests a spa day, Tong Wei declines. She goes to the riverside alone, looking at a photo of her parents.
She reflects on her childhood, recalling that her parents’ death was the key reason she became a negotiator, as she believes finding Cai Tianlan, who worked at CAEA at the time, could help her uncover the truth behind their deaths. She also remembers the painful memory of her aunt refusing to buy a grave for her parents, insisting their savings were for Tong Wei's education, which led to their ashes being scattered at sea.
Zhao Chenxi seeks out Xie Xiaofei to understand his disruptive behavior, but he dismisses it as an unintentional mistake, appearing completely unconcerned. Meanwhile, Xie Xiaofei receives a call from his associate, Robb, who informs him that the Suzhou land he had been diligently watching for two years and finally bought, which was his mother's hometown, has been sold by the Xie Corporation. Shocked, Xie Xiaofei immediately confronts his father, who is in a meeting, demanding an explanation.
His father states that it was a board decision and that Xie Xiaofei will understand later. Xie Xiaofei angrily retorts that his father knew how important that land was to him and his mother, as it was where he intended to realize his dreams. As night falls, Qin Tianyu, finishing work late, offers to drive Shang Bichen home.
Shang Bichen, who has long harbored feelings for Qin Tianyu, is both nervous and thrilled by this opportunity, assuring him she will work hard and not disappoint him. Upon arriving home, Shang Bichen receives a call from her mother, urging her to return for a blind date. To avoid this, she fabricates a story about having a boyfriend. Qin Tianyu calls Tong Wei, asking if Xie Xiaofei had caused her any trouble, but she assures him everything is fine.
After hanging up, Qin Tianyu wonders if Tong Wei was expecting a call from Xie Xiaofei, fueling his insecurities. He then calls Shan Shan, confiding his worries about Tong Wei. Shan Shan teases him, noting his attraction to challenging women, and promises to keep an eye on Tong Wei for him. Zhao Chenxi, still suspicious about Xie Xiaofei's actions, contacts Qin Tianyu late that night.
She informs him that CAEA has replaced Tong Wei with another negotiator for their project with Xie Corporation, and Tong Wei has been forced to take leave. Qin Tianyu, secretly working as legal counsel for Ke Wan without Tong Wei's knowledge, immediately suspects that his dual role might have been discovered, and Tong Wei was removed to avoid a conflict of interest. However, Zhao Chenxi disagrees, finding Xie Xiaofei’s behavior highly unusual.
Qin Tianyu dismisses Xie Xiaofei as a mere playboy, but Zhao Chenxi warns him not to underestimate Xie Xiaofei, pointing out that Xie Xiaofei’s past suggests capabilities beyond what he lets on, and reminding Qin Tianyu of his own ambition to use Tong Wei for career advancement. Xie Xiaofei attends the scheduled meeting between CAEA and Xie Corporation, only to discover that Tong Wei has been replaced as the lead negotiator due to the previous day's incident.
The project is now assigned to Xiao Xiang. Disgusted, he refuses to listen to Xiao Xiang’s explanations, adopts a hostile attitude, and walks out of the meeting room. He then instinctively finds himself standing in front of Tong Wei's office.
