Hou Jue and Wu Shiyi returned to the company late at night to retrieve items. Hou Jue, finding the unlit building a bit scary, tried to tease Wu Shiyi, who feigned being scared, complimenting his performance. Meanwhile, Mr. Ma and Xiao Min were secretly dating in the stairwell. Xiao Min, increasingly worried since taking the money, suggested returning it. Mr. Ma was shocked, explaining that doing so would mean he'd have to confess to a crime.
He urged her not to think about it and to lock the door, emphasizing that she was the only one who could help him. As Hou Jue and Wu Shiyi left, Wu Shiyi heard noises from the stairwell. They cautiously approached, with Hou Jue dramatically announcing, "Three, two, one!" before opening the door, startling Mr. Ma and Xiao Min. Mr. Ma awkwardly tried to explain they were just taking the fire escape and apologized profusely.
He then pleaded with Hou Jue not to tell anyone, denying any real relationship with Xiao Min and threatening to resign if word got out. Hou Jue, promising to keep quiet, quickly made his exit. Mr. Ma's frantic denials upset Xiao Min, who confronted him. She reminded him their relationship was serious, and his desperate behavior made them look like they were "sneaking around," which she found unacceptable. Mr. Ma apologized profusely and begged her to stay.
On the way out, Hou Jue chuckled about Mr. Ma's hidden "office romance," jokingly wondering if he could turn it into an "office Infernal Affairs" situation. He then presented his "Haicheng 8" project construction plan, which utilized the most advanced building materials and had a reasonable implementation plan within budget.
However, the proposal was met with objections from the staff, who pointed out that these materials were unfamiliar in China, requiring foreign designers and workers, which would increase costs and project duration and compromise quality control. Hou Jue's frustration grew when he asked for suggestions but received none, and even Bao Xiaohan admitted unfamiliarity with the new materials. Annoyed, Hou Jue ended the meeting.
Bao Xiaohan, who was secretly browsing job listings for an architectural designer position with a monthly salary of 20,000, was then called to Hou Zhirong's office by Mr. Ma. Hou Zhirong summoned Bao Xiaohan, asking about the Haicheng project meeting. Bao Xiaohan praised Hou Jue's active and clear mind, but Hou Zhirong dismissed the flattery, wanting a frank assessment. Feigning outrage, Hou Zhirong chastised Mr. Ma for the delay, demanding that Human Resources fix it immediately or face termination.
Mr. Ma called HR, loudly pretending to scold them for the oversight. Hou Zhirong then reassured Bao Xiaohan that he would personally ensure he received what was due and urged him to focus on the project and deliver excellent results. After Bao Xiaohan left, Hou Zhirong privately told Mr. Ma that if Bao Xiaohan's performance didn't meet expectations, he wouldn't get the promised salary, effectively intending to exploit him. Fang Lu's dilapidated house was flooded by heavy rain.
She first called Mary for help, but Mary, who was in a meeting, dismissed her, suggesting she couldn't offer a place to stay and hanging up. Distraught, Fang Lu then called Hou Jue, explaining her predicament. Hou Jue readily agreed to help, offering to book a hotel room and pick her up. As they departed, she asked if Hou Jue would visit again, to which he promised he would.
On the drive back, Hou Jue expressed pity for Fang Lu, but Wu Shiyi responded indifferently, stating that she chose her own life and didn't need anyone's sympathy. Mr. Ma informed Xiao Min that the internal investigation had concluded with no issues, and Hou Zhirong still trusted him, much to their relief. However, Mr. Ma then instructed Xiao Min to create profiles on dating websites and go on a few blind dates.
He reasoned that if their secret relationship were exposed, the police would undoubtedly suspect them, given his high-level position and her role as accountant. By publicly dating, Xiao Min could appear single, thereby disproving any financial motive or connection between them. Xiao Min asked if he wouldn't be jealous, and he clarified it was just an act. He further instructed her to fake illness starting the next day and resign in a month.
He planned to stay for another two to three months to finalize their escape plans and amass a substantial fortune before Liu Tiehao's release, after which they would leave and start a new life together. Wu Shiyi and Hou Jue took Wu Tianyi home from the hospital. Neighbors greeted them warmly, complimenting Hou Jue's handsomeness. Despite the modest living conditions, Hou Jue immediately began helping to tidy up, much to Wu Shiyi's annoyance.
She sent him upstairs to chat with her father. Wu Tianyi, having grown fond of Hou Jue during his hospital stay, confided in him about his financial troubles. He explained that years ago, a failed business venture with two friends left him with substantial debt. While his partners fled abroad, Wu Tianyi felt it was his duty to repay, so he depleted all his savings and even sold his house.
Wu Shiyi had also sold her car and continued to help him with monthly payments, much to Wu Tianyi's distress. He described Wu Shiyi as outwardly strong but internally carrying many burdens, never sharing her true feelings. He lamented her forced retirement from sports due to injury after winning her first national championship, and the hardships she endured as a bodyguard, all to help him repay his debts, preventing her from pursuing training abroad.
Hou Jue, touched by the story, told Wu Tianyi that he admired the father-daughter bond and believed Wu Shiyi was a great person. Their conversation was interrupted when Wu Shiyi entered the room with fruit, asking what they were talking about. Mary, assuming Fang Lu was now dating Hou Jue, tried to get details, claiming she needed to know for public relations in case reporters dug up information.
Fang Lu denied any serious relationship, stating it was "not yet confirmed," and emphasized her desire to keep her private life out of the public eye, especially since she didn't have a boyfriend. Mary, hoping for a high-profile romance, still wished for Fang Lu to become "Mrs. Hou." Meanwhile, Hai Xing persistently pursued Qian Qian, interrupting her martial arts training to invite her to dinner and shower her with compliments.
Qian Qian reiterated that he didn't meet her criteria for a partner and asked him not to waste his time or money, urging him to find someone more suitable. Hai Xing, however, focused only on her compliment that he was handsome, interpreting it as a subconscious admission of affection. Later, Mary secured Fang Lu a spot on a popular online variety show, "New Trainee," a "hard-won opportunity" for which Fang Lu had to go alone. At Qian Qian's sanda class, Hai Xing had enrolled as a student. During the warm-up, he challenged other students to a push-up competition for a free meal, showing off his strength. When Qian Qian, the instructor, entered, he led the students in boisterous cheers for her to demonstrate sanda techniques.
Annoyed by his antics, Qian Qian called him out to be her demonstration partner. She then proceeded to expertly perform various throws and moves on him, including a "pull arm over shoulder fall," "leg cutting," and "rabbit pedal eagle," giving him a thorough beatdown while instructing the class. Fang Lu called Hou Jue, asking him to check out her previous hotel stay.
Later, from the hotel room provided by the production crew, she video-called him to describe the online variety show, "New Trainee," as featuring ten girls undergoing various trainings, which she found "very silly." However, she explained she had no choice as she needed to support herself. Hou Jue listened absently, telling her to "feed herself well." Soon after, she had to go to makeup.
In the makeup room, Fang Lu encountered Online celebrity Doudou, with whom she had previously clashed at an event, where Doudou tried to steal her "C position." Their reunion was marked by mutual disdain. The makeup artist then informed Fang Lu that the director wanted her hair cut short for higher recognition, pointing to a length near her neck. Panicked, Fang Lu immediately called Hou Jue, crying hysterically that she was being bullied and didn't want to live, leaving Hou Jue stunned.
