Lucky With You Episode 38 Recap
> Lucky With You Recap
Doll frantically called Hou Jue for help, worried about Hai Xing's recent behavior. She explained that Hai Xing had been drinking non-stop for days, getting drunk, and even giving free meals to all customers, rendering everyone's work useless. Doll added that in his intoxicated state, Hai Xing had been threatening to hang himself, jump into a river, and commit suicide.
Hou Jue rushed to Xingbake, where Hai Xing was mumbling apologies, saying he was sorry and that it was all his fault. Hou Jue helped him upstairs to rest. Doll insisted on sleeping on the sofa in Hai Xing's room to watch over him, explaining that it's dangerous for a drunk person to be unattended. Hou Jue expressed concern about her, a young girl, staying alone with a heavily intoxicated Hai Xing.
Doll misinterpreted his concern, thinking he was trying to set her up with Hai Xing. Hou Jue clarified his intentions, told her to call him when Hai Xing woke up, and left. Outside, Wu Shiyi, who had been discreetly watching, called Hou Jue on the phone to report a suspicious motorcyclist and advised him to drive straight to the company basement, as it was safer and unauthorized vehicles were restricted there.
Wu Shiyi stayed to observe the motorcyclist, and they were in a standoff for a long time until the motorcyclist eventually left. Wu Shiyi then called Hou Jue again to confirm his location before going to meet him. Meanwhile, Qian Qian, still feeling down, found herself at the amusement park where she and Hou Zhirong had their first date. Hou Zhirong was also there, having frequented the place as he couldn't forget her.
Qian Qian was happy, believing his presence indicated he still harbored feelings for her. Hou Zhirong confessed that since the death of Hou Jue's mother, he hadn't experienced any romantic entanglements until he met Qian Qian, making him unsure if his feelings for her were truly love. Qian Qian brushed aside his uncertainty, boldly stating that she would love him.
She offered to love him for any duration—a day, a month, half a year, or a year—and promised to keep it a secret. Hou Zhirong maintained that it would be unfair to her, given his age, health issues, and inability to offer her anything substantial. He urged her to find a better man and not waste her precious youth on someone like him. Qian Qian, however, only wished for one passionate love in her lifetime.
Accepting his firm stance, Qian Qian asked one final, heartfelt question: if he gave her up today, would he regret it in the future? After a prolonged silence, Hou Zhirong admitted that he would regret it and feel particularly distressed. Overcome with joy, Qian Qian embraced him, finally finding solace in his confessed emotions, and Hou Zhirong, for his part, finally acknowledged his feelings for Qian Qian. Hai Xing had begun showing his restaurant, Xingbake, to potential buyers.
Doll was distraught, deeply attached to the establishment. She called Hou Jue on the phone, tearfully recounting that Hai Xing had been cheerful until "two men in black" from "your company" visited him, followed by "a very rich old man" whom she overheard Hai Xing refer to as "Mr. Hou." Hou Jue immediately suspected his father. Realizing her inadvertent revelation, Doll quickly ended the call, but Hou Jue had heard enough to confirm his suspicions.
As the buyers were about to sign the contract, Hai Xing abruptly changed his mind, refusing to transfer the store and apologizing for the inconvenience. The frustrated buyers left, grumbling. Doll, ecstatic, rushed in and impulsively kissed Hai Xing, thrilled that the restaurant would not be sold. Hou Jue confronted Hou Zhirong directly, asking if Hai Xing was responsible for stealing the bidding documents.
Hou Zhirong, desiring a peaceful life, dismissed the matter as something of the past, attributing Hai Xing's actions to momentary confusion and greed. He stated that he had already forgiven Hai Xing and advised Hou Jue to do the same, emphasizing the rarity of true friends. Hou Jue countered that precisely because Hai Xing was his true friend, he found it impossible to forgive such a betrayal.
Enraged, Hou Jue rushed to Hai Xing's restaurant, accusing him of stabbing him in the back. On the rooftop, Hai Xing confessed, admitting he knew the truth would eventually surface and that he had been restless. He revealed that he had been in love with Qian Qian, but she had chosen a wealthy man who provided her with a villa and car, only to be abandoned later.
Hai Xing explained that he stole the documents to seek revenge on this man. Hou Jue furiously demanded to know how this involved him, asking why Hai Xing targeted him while seeking revenge on another. Hai Xing, avoiding mentioning Hou Zhirong, defiantly claimed it was for the money, asserting he needed it to prove he could provide for Qian Qian, even declaring himself "crazy."
Hou Jue listed the extensive damage caused by Hai Xing's actions: an excellent designer, Bao Xiaohan, nearly had her career ruined, and Zhirong Construction almost went bankrupt, triggering his father's heart attack. Deeply hurt, Hou Jue expressed his disbelief and pain that his most trusted friend had betrayed him. Hai Xing retorted that he never sought forgiveness and wished to sever ties, stating they were fundamentally different.
He contrasted Hou Jue's privileged upbringing with his own as an orphan, accusing Hou Jue of always treating him as a follower rather than a true brother, dictating everything. Hai Xing vehemently expressed his disgust for Hou Jue's condescending and bossy demeanor. Their heated argument quickly escalated into a physical fight. Doll desperately tried to break them apart, while Wu Shiyi observed the chaotic scene calmly from below.
Later, Hou Jue confided in Wu Shiyi, still grappling with Hai Xing's motivations. Wu Shiyi found Hai Xing's explanation unconvincing, recalling his unwavering loyalty when Hou Jue was at his lowest point. She theorized that the wealthy boss Qian Qian was involved with might actually be Hou Jue's father, Hou Zhirong, which would explain everything.
Wu Shiyi reminded Hou Jue that Qian Qian had previously described her beloved as much older, with a son, and a successful career, all fitting Hou Zhirong. She also pointed out Qian Qian's unusual secrecy, suggesting she did not want Hou Jue to know the man's identity. Hou Jue initially resisted the idea, but then realized it connected all the missing pieces: Hai Xing couldn't speak, Qian Qian didn't want to, and his father couldn't.
He understood that Hou Zhirong had known about Hai Xing's actions and deliberately kept it from him to spare his feelings. The revelation deeply distressed Hou Jue, who pondered the convoluted relationships that would arise if this theory proved true. He then received a phone call from his father, reassuring him that any issues with Hai Xing were likely a misunderstanding and confirming he would be out for the night. Wu Shiyi took Hou Jue to her rented apartment.
Gazing out the window, Hou Jue reflected that things are often not as they seem. He tenderly told her that he had used "three lifetimes of luck" to find her and asked her to "always accompany" him as recompense. They embraced sweetly. Meanwhile, at a supermarket, Wu Tianyi witnessed a heavily pregnant Li Xuemei collapse. Other shoppers hesitated, but Wu Tianyi recognized her as Zhu Dapeng's wife and rushed to her aid, calling for an ambulance as she clutched her painful abdomen.
