Lucky With You Episode 28 Recap
> Lucky With You Recap
Zhang Yingnan told Hou Jue that since he had feelings for Wu Shiyi, he should consider her best interests instead of keeping her by his side when he was struggling. She explained that Lanqi, a talented man with a good career and an emotional connection to Wu Shiyi, could offer her a more favorable job with easy, safe work, allowing her value to be fully realized.
Zhang Yingnan understood Wu Shiyi would feel immense guilt leaving Hou Jue during his low point. She urged Hou Jue not to be unkind, and he promised to handle the matter. Mr. Zhao called Wu Shiyi to check on her health, noting her contract was expiring the next day and Hou Jue hadn't renewed it.
He offered her a new, premium position from Lanqi, a hotel management security role that was not 24-hour duty and paid twice her current salary, also providing excellent training opportunities for four young guards from their company under her mentorship. Wu Shiyi hesitated, feeling Hou Jue needed her protection and support during his lowest point, while anyone could do Lanqi's job.
Mr. Zhao advised her not to refuse hastily, comparing it to parents securing their own oxygen masks before helping their children. He explained that by strengthening herself, she would be better positioned to support Hou Jue later. He asked her to consider it and reflect on Hou Jue's situation. Back in the hospital room, Hou Jue secretly texted Hai Xing to call him in two minutes. Wu Shiyi returned, asking if her mother had said anything.
Hou Jue reassured her, claiming her mother praised him for caring for her and expressed her concern. Shortly after, Hou Jue received the pre-arranged call, feigning a conversation with Chen Chen about an urgent contract signing in Shenzhen, stating that the client's leader was leaving the country tomorrow. He dramatically concluded that he wouldn't have time to renew Wu Shiyi's contract and would frequently interact with Chen Chen, who disliked Wu Shiyi's presence.
Wu Shiyi acknowledged his departure, though her heart was filled with disappointment. She then decided to accept Lanqi's job offer. Hou Jue then left in a hurry, instructing Qian Qian to pick up Wu Shiyi from the hospital tomorrow, saying he wouldn't be able to come. Meanwhile, at Zhirong Construction, Mr. Zhang informed Ma Zong about severe cash flow issues. Several project payments hadn't been received, and a recent materials payment had depleted their accounts.
Mr. Zhang feared that if news of their financial trouble spread, other companies would demand payments early, increasing their pressure. He suggested a bank loan, but acknowledged that the process would take at least five working days and was complicated by a previous unpaid loan, making approval difficult. Ma Zong then proposed short-term private lending, which Mr. Zhang considered too risky and wanted to discuss with Hou Zhirong.
Ma Zong immediately rejected this, using Hou Zhirong's poor health as an excuse, secretly pleased he could make the decision himself to borrow high-interest loans. Qian Qian picked up Wu Shiyi from the hospital. Noticing Wu Shiyi's somber mood, Qian Qian recalled how Hou Jue had insisted on returning to the hospital earlier but then left for a "greater interest," suggesting his "businessman's gene" had taken over. Wu Shiyi forced a smile, saying it was good and congratulated him.
Upon returning to pack Wu Shiyi's belongings, Hai Xing quickly hid Hou Jue, who hadn't actually gone to Shenzhen but was hiding in a small shabby room upstairs, creating a pretense so Wu Shiyi could leave without feeling burdened. Alone with Qian Qian, Wu Shiyi confessed her true feelings, admitting she was worried about Hou Jue.
She had initially found him annoying, like a spoiled, reckless child, but later realized his deep kindness, noting that few wealthy young men would engage in dangerous rescue work. She understood his recklessness stemmed from his mother's death when he was five, making him feel like his life was borrowed. Wu Shiyi said she had grown accustomed to seeing him mature from an impetuous youth, and sometimes wished things could just continue as they were.
Qian Qian, unaware of Hou Jue's sacrifice, misinterpreted his actions, remarking that he had previously chosen Wu Shiyi over Chen Chen's pressure, but now chose his future over Wu Shiyi. Qian Qian concluded that the separation was for the best, given Hou Jue's youth and instability, and that he might change later. Wu Shiyi, though outwardly understanding, cast a wistful glance towards Hou Jue's room before leaving.
Hou Jue, overhearing their entire conversation, was heartbroken as he watched her depart from the window. Wu Tianyi planned a dinner to thank Lanqi and celebrate Wu Shiyi's new job, asking Zhang Yingnan to help make salad, as Wu Shiyi loved hers. Zhang Yingnan, on her first visit since the divorce, commented on the "shabby place" Wu Tianyi rented, though she admitted it was tidily kept. Wu Shiyi was surprised to find both Lanqi and her mother there.
Wu Tianyi and Lanqi excused themselves to cook, telling the women to go upstairs. During the meal, Lanqi continually served Wu Shiyi, creating a warm atmosphere. Lanqi praised Wu Tianyi's cooking, making a subtle plea for Wu Shiyi's mother by recalling how Wu Tianyi used to dote on her. He then proposed a weekly Saturday dinner at Wu Tianyi's to foster family bonds, which Wu Shiyi's mother agreed to.
Lanqi also urged Wu Shiyi to treat her upcoming job, with its good air and environment, as a vacation, encouraging her to recuperate. After dinner, Wu Shiyi walked Lanqi out. Lanqi asked about the possibility of her parents reconciling. Wu Shiyi, who previously thought it impossible, saw a glimmer of hope after her mother's presence and her father's efforts, like cooking all her mother's favorite dishes and buying flowers.
Wu Shiyi joked that she thought she was the protagonist, but turned out to be a "light bulb" (a third wheel). Lanqi suggested they both keep trying to facilitate their parents' reunion. Later, Zhang Yingnan, feeling unwell from alcohol, held Wu Shiyi's hand and passionately praised Lanqi, urging Wu Shiyi to trust her. Wu Shiyi offered her a place to stay, but Zhang Yingnan insisted on leaving, complaining about Wu Tianyi's pillow smell.
Meanwhile, Hou Jue was found in his room, heavily intoxicated, and was helped into bed by Hai Xing and Doll. Doll wanted to take a photo of his misery to show Wu Shiyi, but Hai Xing stopped her. Unable to keep Hou Jue's secret any longer, Hai Xing called Qian Qian, explaining that Hou Jue hadn't gone to Shenzhen and was suffering, drinking in his small shabby room, all to avoid burdening Wu Shiyi.
He asked Qian Qian not to tell Wu Shiyi, simply wanting one less person to misunderstand Hou Jue. Wu Shiyi posted a picture on her social media, saying she was "trying to start over." Qian Qian later posted "I miss you."
