Meanwhile, Chen Chen's father, Mr. Sheng, met with Hou Zhirong to discuss advancing their families' relationship through a marriage alliance. He emphasized that Hou Jue and Chen Chen were well-matched in age and had both studied design abroad, while their families had deep roots.
Hou Zhirong was delighted, immediately agreeing and stating, "My opinion is his opinion," before excitedly planning to call Hou Jue, only for Mr. Sheng to advise against rushing. During lunch, Hou Zhirong informed Hou Jue about the proposed blind date, to his surprise, Hou Jue readily agreed. However, Hou Jue's motive was not genuine.
Once his father left, Hou Jue went to Wu Shiyi, boasting that his father had introduced him to a "super beauty" with whom he shared a "childhood sweetheart" connection. He then dramatically declared that he had decided to give up on Wu Shiyi, expecting a reaction. Wu Shiyi, however, remained unfazed, congratulating him and expressing happiness, which left Hou Jue feeling dejected. Separately, Hai Xing received a text message offering a "chance to get rich."
He initially dismissed it as a scammer. However, the sender then specified they wanted "Zhirong Construction's design scheme" and offered 100,000. Hai Xing became wary, asking who they were and why they wanted the plan. The mysterious sender, identifying as a "small character," increased the offer to 200,000, then 500,000, urging Hai Xing to "think it over."
Hai Xing vehemently refused to betray his friend and threatened to call the police, but the sender, later revealed to be Ma Zong, remained persistent. During the blind date, Hou Jue tried to provoke Wu Shiyi's jealousy with childish antics. He mockingly asked if she was "jealous" and lamented that his efforts were "for nothing" when she showed no reaction. Wu Shiyi dismissed him as immature, stating, "Don't play the tricks of those children all the time."
Chen Chen arrived with her two friends, Lily and Coco. Hou Jue mistakenly greeted Lily and Coco as Chen Chen before Chen Chen identified herself. Hou Jue then tried to flatter the girls and fed Chen Chen a pastry, all while observing Wu Shiyi, who calmly enjoyed the scenery. As they were leaving, Hou Jue specifically introduced Chen Chen to Wu Shiyi. Chen Chen, adopting a condescending attitude, asked Wu Shiyi to take good care of Hou Jue.
Wu Shiyi responded neither subserviently nor arrogantly, stating it was her professional duty. Later, Chen Chen reported to her father, Mr. Sheng, that she was impressed with Hou Jue, noting how handsome he had become compared to his childhood as a "little fat man." Her father mentioned that Hou Jue had suffered after his mother's death. Chen Chen proudly agreed to grant Hou Jue "a qualification to pursue" her, emphasizing it was just a "qualification."
Hou Zhirong and Qian Qian met at an amusement park. Qian Qian expressed her profound happiness, stating that she felt so blissful she was afraid to sleep, lest the feeling disappear. She recounted how she worked hard for her parents' happiness and thanked Hou Zhirong for giving her a life she "never dared to think about." Hou Zhirong, finding great joy in her company and noting how she revitalized his otherwise boring life, proposed she quit her demanding job.
He offered her a life in a villa, a new car, and even suggested her family could move in with them. Qian Qian, overwhelmed, said she needed to "think about it again," which disappointed Hou Zhirong. Hou Jue received a frantic phone call from Hai Xing, who exclaimed that his car had fallen into a river during a heavy rainstorm. Hou Jue and Wu Shiyi immediately drove to the location.
Upon arrival, Hou Jue became visibly distressed and frozen by the sight of the deep water. Wu Shiyi, noticing his fear, took control, instructing Hou Jue to manage the rope while she operated the vehicle to pull the car out. Despite Hai Xing's desperate cries for help, Hou Jue was gripped by his childhood trauma, barely registering anything. Eventually, the car was successfully retrieved.
Wu Shiyi offered Hou Jue a drink and reassured him that it was natural to fear water, as everyone has their weaknesses. Hou Jue then tearfully confessed that his mother had "died in the water" while saving him, an event he witnessed. This, he explained, was an "inexplicable fear" he couldn't overcome and a deep-seated "knot in his heart" that he had never revealed until now.
He described his mother as the person who "gave me two lives," and this experience propelled him to become a rescue worker, driven by a deep desire to help others and save every possible life. He admitted that the recurring traumatic images often kept him awake at night, leading him to work as a distraction. Meanwhile, Qian Qian posted on her social media, declaring that happiness was her childhood dreams becoming reality, all thanks to Hou Zhirong.
Concurrently, Hai Xing's car was deemed irreparable by the mechanic, who joked that the repair cost could buy him a "new twin brother." After getting a cheap replacement phone, Hai Xing saw Qian Qian's "sea view villa" "show happiness" post, which infuriated him for not being "blocked." He called Hou Jue to vent.
Hou Jue saw the photo and mentioned his father "seems to have a house there too," but failed to realize Qian Qian was residing in his family's villa, instead feeling sympathy for Hai Xing. Wu Shiyi commented that Qian Qian seemed "very serious this time" and expected Hai Xing to eventually "give up," acknowledging that finding love is "not easy" for anyone.
