Love is in the Air Episode 23 Recap
> Love is in the Air Recap
Miaomiao had a blind date with a man who resided in North Quebec, Canada. While he appeared to be a good match at first glance, he quickly revealed himself to be a severe homebody, preferring to do all his shopping online and spending his free time watching goldfish swim or panda livestreams rather than socializing or visiting zoos.
He stated his desire to have three children and quickly proposed getting married the next day, complimenting Miaomiao's figure as suitable for childbearing. Miaomiao was taken aback, explaining that she needed more time to get to know him and couldn't imagine living abroad, as her family was in her home country. She expressed a longing for a real, passionate marriage, even with occasional arguments, rather than a dull, boring one. Recognizing their differing values, they amicably parted ways.
Shortly after, Miaomiao received a call reminding her of one final scheduled blind date for that afternoon, which she agreed to attend to avoid affecting her online profile score. Jiang Yiyi was busy cleaning the old house. As she prepared to take a shower, Fang Muye, unseen by her, gently closed the bathroom door. Yiyi, sensing his presence, spoke aloud, recalling their first encounter where he had "peeped" at her showering.
She admitted she still felt their worlds were different and she didn't want any "compensation" for his presence, but she wished he would appear, if only to let her see him just once. Muye remained silently by the door, keeping her company. When Miaomiao arrived at her last blind date, she was shocked to find Meng Sizhuo waiting. Believing he was playing a prank, she initially tried to dismiss him. However, Meng Sizhuo was serious.
He formally introduced himself, shared that they had attended the same high school, and recounted personal details about her, such as her dislike for snakes, her preferred milk tea order (milk green tea with little sugar and no ice), and her preference for healthy, reliable men over playboys. He confessed that he had long been afraid of making promises and getting hurt, which led him to hide his deepest feelings, especially knowing her feelings for Fang Muye.
He spoke of their shared childhood with Muye and her, and how he had been in love with her for a long time but kept it secret, fearing he would lose their friendship if he confessed. Now, he bravely declared his love, stating his earnest desire to build a life with her and expressing that he would be happy regardless of her answer because he had finally revealed his true feelings.
Miaomiao was overwhelmed and, still believing he was joking, left the cafe despite his insistence that he was serious. Meanwhile, Peng Tao, whose health was deteriorating and required expensive surgery, desperately sought funds. Unable to locate Chu Tianqi, who had moved, or reach Vivian by phone, he went to the gym to demand money from Miaomiao. Miaomiao confronted him, reminding him that he had stolen clients when he left, yet they had still paid his salary.
Peng Tao grew aggressive, trying to grab Miaomiao, but Ma Yun intervened, scolding him for his behavior and threatening to call the police. Peng Tao, furious, left. Later, as Miaomiao was closing up the gym, counting inventory and sorting accounts, Meng Sizhuo called, promising to bring her roast chicken takeaway and apologizing for ignoring him earlier. While Miaomiao stepped out to dispose of trash, Peng Tao returned to the gym.
Embittered by his circumstances, he poured gasoline on the entrance and set it ablaze, stating, "Alright then, let's be unlucky together!" Meng Sizhuo, arriving with the takeaway, saw the gym engulfed in flames. Believing Miaomiao was still inside, he disregarded the warnings of bystanders and rushed into the burning building. Miaomiao, who had already stepped out, watched in horror as he disappeared into the fire.
Meng Sizhuo was eventually rescued from the fire, but he sustained burn injuries to his eyebrows and hair. In the hospital, he tried to lighten the mood with jokes about his appearance. Miaomiao, seeing him in his bandaged state, was deeply emotional. She confessed her immense fear of losing him, realizing how deeply he had become an indispensable part of her life.
She promised to take care of him, buying him food, taking him outside when he couldn't walk, and even learning how to change his bandages from the nurse. Meng Sizhuo, touched by her dedication, asked her to promise she would care for him for all their lives, without regrets. Miaomiao tearfully affirmed, "I will take care of you, for all of my life." He requested a kiss as a reward, and after a brief hesitation, Miaomiao kissed him passionately.
Meng Sizhuo, overjoyed, exclaimed that it was "totally worth it! Even after a dozen fires, still worth it!" He pondered how the firemen arrived so quickly, musing that perhaps "God sent me a Guardian. . . to keep me with you." Unbeknownst to them, Fang Muye watched this tender moment from outside the hospital room, a subtle smile of satisfaction on his face. Fang Muye confronted Peng Tao, who was looking haggard and desperate.
Muye noted that Peng Tao seemed to have received his just punishment. Peng Tao pleaded for Muye's help, claiming he never meant to set the fire and that "they turned me into a monster!" Muye responded that one would eventually face judgment for evil deeds and that "life is determined by your choices. Believe it or not, working hard will always gain you more." Muye then visited Grandpa Hu.
He noticed the dusty surroundings and advised Grandpa Hu to drink less whiskey and take care of himself, as his powers were becoming unstable with age, hinting that he might not be able to visit again soon. During their game of chess, Muye deliberately made a move that allowed Grandpa Hu to win. Grandpa Hu, elated by his victory after so many years, reminded Muye of a promise to call him "Mentor."
Muye, though admitting he wasn't a qualified intern Guardian, expressed profound gratitude to Grandpa Hu. He acknowledged Grandpa Hu's occasional unreliability but deeply appreciated his care, stating that he viewed him not just as a mentor but "like a father to me, like family," thanking him for his support, especially after his grandma's illness. Grandpa Hu was deeply moved.
Suddenly, Muye received a celestial message: "Fully fledged on the day of the full moon, totally changed at the northern Mount Ling." Grandpa Hu urged Muye not to lose hope, advising him to pack his bags and go to Mount Ling, suggesting that if he stayed there for a year and a half, his wishes would be granted.
Back at home, Jiang Yiyi found a pair of 3D-printed human figurines, depicting her and Muye lying together in the grass, which brought tears to her eyes. She then received a message from Chen Peter. He claimed to have reflected on his past actions and intended to confess his wrongdoings. As a gesture of sincerity, he offered to give Yiyi the complete research documents for the robotic arm, believing they could help her improve it.
He proposed meeting at Mount Ling at 5:30 PM. Yiyi, hoping to acquire the data to help Shi Liang, agreed to the meeting. However, upon meeting Chen Peter, Yiyi quickly realized he had no genuine remorse. Obsessed with his genetic research, he spoke of his desire to achieve "perfection of life" by transcending human limitations and even manipulating time and space.
He believed humanity needed sacrifices for advancement and that those who were sacrificed should be grateful for proving their worth. When Yiyi expressed her inability to understand his reasoning and attempted to leave, Chen Peter stopped her. He revealed a device containing "the source of Fang Muye's power," explaining that he had been searching for Muye for over a decade.
He elaborated on his research, revealing that his own ancestors, like Muye, possessed the "Guardian gene" due to Crop Circles in the valley, but their abilities had gradually disappeared. He planned to use genetic modification to absorb Muye's Guardian gene to awaken his own potential and reach the highest level of existence. As the full moon rose, Fang Muye, meditating on Mount Ling, sensed Yiyi's imminent danger.
Chen Peter pressed Yiyi to call Muye, threatening that Muye would "disappear" and become a fully-fledged Guardian that very night if he successfully completed his cultivation. Yiyi, horrified at the thought of Muye vanishing, refused to call him, declaring, "I won't let you get near him. I won't call for him, even if it means death!" Infuriated, Chen Peter pushed Yiyi off the cliff. Muye arrived just as she fell, screaming her name, but couldn't catch her.
Yiyi hit the ground, bleeding from her head. Desperate, Muye rushed back to Grandpa Hu's, forcefully smashing his alarm clock into a black hole to reverse time, despite Grandpa Hu's warnings against breaking the rules. Time rewound, and Muye reappeared at the cliff's edge, this time pushing Chen Peter away before he could push Yiyi. Relieved to see Muye, Yiyi warned him about Chen Peter.
However, Chen Peter, still determined, proceeded to absorb Muye's power into an energy chip, declaring his intention to take Muye's abilities for himself. Yiyi, seeing Muye's power being siphoned, bravely snatched the chip from Chen Peter, proclaiming, "I won't let you hurt him!" She tried to throw the chip away but found she couldn't.
Remembering a nurse's words that the happiness of a Guardian and their partner is achieved through mutual effort, Yiyi realized it was her turn to protect Muye. With a final "Farewell, Muye," she leaped off the cliff with the energy chip. Muye cried out, questioning why, despite reversing time, the outcome remained the same.
