After sending Yiyi away, Fang Muye visited Hu Grandpa and confessed that he was losing his sense of taste. Hu Grandpa told him this was a positive sign, a "sensory purification process" that ordinary people could only dream of. He revealed that he was also experiencing similar sensory losses, including hearing and sight, and even his teeth were going, questioning if it was purification or simply aging.

Hu Grandpa presented Fang Muye with the repaired pocket watch, explaining it was the best he could do, though it still ran slower than a regular clock. He added that the watch's owner was also a Guardian, and its speed reflected their recovery. Hu Grandpa promised to protect the watch. Later that night, as Fang Muye and Yiyi lay in bed, each lost in their own thoughts.

Yiyi felt she had finally done something good for Fang Muye, believing that accepting Tianqi's proposal had led to Grandma's awakening. She noted that she had never seen Fang Muye so happy and relaxed. Fang Muye, for his part, wondered if Yiyi had truly found happiness and pondered if that was the reason Grandma had woken up. The following day, Yiyi visited Grandma and Fang Muye at the hospital, bringing candied haws.

Fang Muye began feeding Grandma, reminiscing about his childhood when Grandma used to feed him and buy him candied haws because he preferred snacks over regular food. When Yiyi offered him a candied haw, Fang Muye, despite having lost his sense of taste, pretended to enjoy it, describing it as "sweet and sour" and "just like it tasted in my childhood." Internally, he apologized to Yiyi for his deception.

Sizhuo and Miaomiao were also at the hospital, with Sizhuo complimenting Miaomiao to Grandma as a potential good wife, which Miaomiao immediately objected to being called "chubby." Sizhuo also noticed that Grandma's IV drip was slow and her hand was swollen, prompting him to call a nurse. Before Yiyi left, she gave Fang Muye a sealed lipstick, powder, and hand cream for Grandma, asking him to give her massages. Yiyi bid farewell, telling Fang Muye, "Congratulations for your happiness."

Meanwhile, Miaomiao was on another blind date, this time with a plastic surgeon named Mr. Yu. He complimented her beauty and revealed that he was attracted to her because she looked exactly like his late wife, whose face he had personally sculpted. Miaomiao quickly ended the date, stating she wasn't interested in someone living in the past. Sizhuo, who was secretly observing, was pleased by her quick rejection, later telling her that no one would be good enough for her.

Miaomiao resignedly mentioned she was only going on these dates because her mother had paid for a half-year membership. Separately, Peng Tao reported to Chen Peter that Fang Muye's stab wound had healed instantly. Chen Peter, convinced of Fang Muye's special power, instructed Peng Tao to increase his weekly injections from two to three, aiming to make him stronger.

Peng Tao resisted, fearing he would end up like Shi Liang, but Chen Peter asserted that the experiment was at a critical stage and would grant him "supreme gene" and "super powers" he had always dreamed of, effectively forcing him to comply. Fang Muye brought Grandma back to their old countryside home. Yiyi, Sizhuo, and Miaomiao came to visit, bringing flowers and preparing for a barbecue.

Fang Muye tried to peel an apple for Grandma, recalling her past belief that an unbroken apple peel granted wishes. The group cheerfully cooked and ate, with Miaomiao and Sizhuo playfully bickering while Yiyi looked on, musing that friendship, unlike other relationships, brings no sorrow and lasts forever. Sizhuo captured a photo of Fang Muye, Yiyi, and Grandma, amidst their joyful interactions.

Sensing an opportunity for Fang Muye and Yiyi to be alone, Miaomiao and Sizhuo concocted an excuse about needing to go to the gym and left. That night, Yiyi stayed over, as Grandma refused to let her leave. Fang Muye and Yiyi lay in a tent on either side of Grandma, holding hands. Fang Muye thanked Yiyi, remarking that Grandma had a wonderful day.

The next morning, as Yiyi prepared to depart, she told Fang Muye she couldn't come back anymore and asked him to take care. Overcome with emotion, Fang Muye pulled her into a kiss. Both were deeply saddened by the impending separation, shedding tears. Fang Muye urged Yiyi to "just be happy." Yiyi left, heartbroken. Later that day, Fang Muye had prepared lunch for Grandma and tried to wake her up to eat.

He noticed her body was becoming increasingly cold and unresponsive. He desperately hugged her, trying to warm her, but Grandma never woke up. At the same moment, the pocket watch Hu Grandpa had repaired stopped completely, signifying Grandma's passing. Under heavy rain, Fang Muye, Yiyi, Sizhuo, and Miaomiao stood by Grandma's tombstone, grief-stricken. Fang Muye knelt at the grave, unwilling to move, blaming himself for not completing his Guardian task sooner.

Yiyi comforted him, assuring him it wasn't his fault and that Grandma had spent her last days happily and peacefully. Yiyi gently persuaded Fang Muye to return home, but he remained silent, consumed by sorrow and self-blame. Fang Muye later confronted Hu Grandpa at his shop, demanding to know why Grandma had died if Yiyi had found happiness.

He angrily recounted his nine years of effort, following Hu Grandpa's guidance, only for "God" to cruelly take Grandma away after only three days of her waking. He declared his refusal to be a Guardian. Hu Grandpa tried to calm him, reminding him not to disrespect the Guardian mission. He then revealed his true identity: he was not a Mentor but an intern Guardian, just like Fang Muye, who had been waiting for his own objective for thirty years.

He explained that his mentorship was an assigned task to help a twelve-year-old Fang Muye overcome his sorrow. Fang Muye was enraged by the perceived deception, believing everything he had been told about an "exclusive objective" and "predestined happiness" was a lie. He began smashing items in the shop, but Hu Grandpa desperately stopped him from touching a specific corner, warning of "temporal disorder."

Fang Muye's faith collapsed, feeling that without Grandma, doing good deeds was meaningless; he would now do whatever he pleased. After Fang Muye left, Hu Grandpa cried, lamenting his helplessness and how he had always tried his best despite his confusion. Fang Muye wandered the streets, drinking alcohol and feeling that life had lost its purpose. His wings turned black, and he began assaulting people.

As he was about to stab a man with a knife, Yiyi arrived just in time to stop him. Fang Muye choked her, but Yiyi's tears falling on his hand brought him back to his senses. His black wings retracted, and he collapsed, unconscious. Yiyi desperately tried to help him and ran to find assistance. Meanwhile, researchers monitoring Fang Muye's genetic data observed an unprecedented surge in his energy value. Hu Grandpa, sensing Fang Muye's distress, arrived and rescued him.

Yiyi returned to find Fang Muye gone and frantically searched for him, asking passersby. Hu Grandpa revived Fang Muye, whose mark on his back had turned black. Once awake, Fang Muye immediately asked for Yiyi. Hu Grandpa attempted to use his teleportation ability, but it failed, explaining that he had only managed to trigger it once nine years ago when he saved Fang Muye and didn't know how to control it.

They were forced to take a taxi to search for Yiyi. From a distance, Fang Muye saw Yiyi anxiously searching for him, but Hu Grandpa warned him that his current unstable condition prevented them from getting too close. To reassure Yiyi, Fang Muye projected a shadow of his wings on a nearby wall. Yiyi, seeing the winged shadow, rushed to the spot, filled with hope, but found no one. She slumped to the ground, crying, now aware of Fang Muye's secret but unsure how to help him.
