Love is Deep Episode 31 Recap
> Love is Deep Recap
Ning Weijin informed Zheng Dingding about his upcoming business trip to Beijing for a week, to attend a breast cancer seminar. Dingding was initially reluctant but eventually agreed after Ning Weijin assured her he would be going alone. He even playfully suggested she accompany him, to which Dingding replied she was too busy, calling herself "Boss Zheng on the 'up curve' of her career" who needed to work harder.
She reiterated that no one else was allowed to go with him. At the airport, Dingding was shocked to find Shu Yiran waiting there. She confronted Ning Weijin, demanding to know why Shu Yiran was there when he had promised to go alone. Ning Weijin tried to explain he hadn't known Shu Yiran would be there, but Dingding was furious, stating she couldn't trust him with Shu Yiran standing right there.
She asked what he needed to do for her to believe him, suggesting he cancel the trip. Ning Weijin explained that the seminar was a rare and valuable opportunity with many national and international experts, one he genuinely didn't want to miss. Shu Yiran then chimed in, telling Ning Weijin that the dean had initially only allocated one spot, but perhaps they later decided it would be a pity to send only one person given such a good chance.
Dingding, feeling betrayed and convinced Ning Weijin was lying, angrily left the airport. Concerned, Ning Weijin immediately messaged his sister, Ning Weixuan, asking her to check on Dingding. When Ning Weixuan arrived, Dingding was upset, preparing to throw away a small scarf pillow, and talking about how she and Ning Weijin were "never meant for each other" professionally, believing he and Shu Yiran were a "perfect match." She felt she shouldn't have "gotten involved with them."
Ning Weixuan quickly countered, asserting that Shu Yiran was the one intruding and that if her brother truly liked Shu Yiran, he would have pursued her long ago. Dingding then revealed that Ning Weijin had gone to Beijing with Shu Yiran. Ning Weixuan was surprised, stating that the hospital had only sent her brother. Dingding, still feeling hurt, accused the siblings of conspiring to deceive her, which Ning Weixuan vehemently denied, reminding Dingding of her strong dislike for Shu Yiran.
Ning Weixuan then explained that given her brother's character, he would have told Dingding immediately if he had known Shu Yiran was going. Realizing she had wronged Ning Weijin, Dingding declared her intention to fly to Beijing to apologize. Ning Weixuan wholeheartedly supported the idea, joking that it was a "for love across the world" mission.
Dingding instructed Ning Weixuan not to tell Ning Weijin about her arrival, as she wanted to surprise him, though Ning Weixuan also playfully warned her about the potential dangers of "lonely in a new environment" scenarios, despite trusting her brother. Meanwhile, at the Beijing seminar, Ning Weijin was highly regarded, and many attendees praised his and Shu Yiran's professional chemistry, commenting on how "young and promising" and "tacit" they were, even speculating if they were a couple.
Shu Yiran, pleased by the attention, linked arms with Ning Weijin and suggested they go out for Peking duck instead of eating the provided work meal. Ning Weijin immediately pushed her arm away and initially declined, stating he would order in, but Shu Yiran pressed him, appealing to their "many years of friendship" and the "hospital's reputation," saying it would look bad if they appeared "seemingly harmonious." Ning Weijin reluctantly agreed.
Later that evening, Ning Weijin tried repeatedly to call and video call Dingding, but her phone was off. Growing anxious, he called Ning Weixuan, who feigned ignorance about Dingding's phone status and promised to try calling her. After some delay, Ning Weixuan called back, assuring Ning Weijin that Dingding was fine, just busy at home and hadn't noticed her phone was off. Relieved, Ning Weijin was then interrupted by a knock at his door.
It was Shu Yiran, who had brought him some documents. He opened the door only slightly, taking the documents without letting her in, explaining it was late and "not appropriate" for them to be alone. Shu Yiran, annoyed, threw the documents into the room. In another development, Wen Zixin was furious with Chen Xun and refused to answer his calls. Chen Xun, realizing his mistake, was desperate to win her back.
His colleague suggested that Wen Zixin's anger might stem from her valuing a missed audition opportunity. Taking the hint, Chen Xun immediately contacted Wen Zixin's agent to reschedule an audition for her in Beijing, buying her a flight ticket and urging her to pack. Still anxious and unsure if Wen Zixin had forgiven him, Chen Xun later decided to fly to Beijing himself to see her, asking his colleague to book the earliest flight and find out her whereabouts.
The next day, Dingding arrived at the seminar hotel. The front desk informed her that the attendees were out for an investigation, so she waited in the lobby. Upon their return, Dingding overheard guests praising Ning Weijin and Shu Yiran as a "nice couple" and a "perfect match." Shu Yiran, noticing this, deliberately linked arms with Ning Weijin as they walked through the crowded lobby and suggested he come to her room to discuss something she had to show him.
Ning Weijin subtly withdrew his arm, but Dingding, after dropping her luggage at the front desk, secretly followed them to the 26th floor. Dingding watched as Ning Weijin entered Shu Yiran's room, but was relieved to see he left the door ajar. Shu Yiran's room was decorated with balloons, each with a note detailing her long-standing unrequited love for Ning Weijin.
She read them aloud, recalling meeting him in 2007, falling in love at first sight, and cherished memories like finding a Szechuan restaurant where he adorably struggled with spicy food, and their joy at being assigned to the same hospital in 2012. Shu Yiran explained that she believed these memories were mutual, and she had been patiently waiting for their relationship to naturally progress, but she "can't wait any more."
She then embraced Ning Weijin, professing her love and attempting to kiss him. Ning Weijin firmly pushed her away. Shu Yiran, refusing to accept his rejection, argued that she was the one who had known him first and had worked hard to be worthy of him, believing she was the only one qualified to stand by his side. She questioned why he chose Zheng Dingding.
Ning Weijin then explained to Shu Yiran that there was "no compatibility or incompatibility in love" in romance and that Dingding had been in his heart for a very long time. He revealed that the cat pendant he had used for years, called "Shrimp Ball," was a gift from Dingding.
He recounted how, after his mother's funeral in 2007, he was utterly heartbroken and lost, but Dingding, a kind young girl, gave him the "Shrimp Ball" pendant, promising it would absorb his unhappiness and release joy. She was like "a ray of sunshine" that "pulled me out from despair" and gave him hope.
He, who had never believed in fate, started believing when she reappeared in his life, seeing her as "the nicest piece" of his life's puzzle, making his life complete. He declared, "I love her." Overwhelmed with emotion and having heard his heartfelt confession, Dingding burst into the room and declared her love for him. Ning Weijin embraced her tightly.
A furious Shu Yiran lashed out at Dingding, accusing her of being "haunting" and ruining Ning Weijin's life, claiming he was no longer acting like a doctor, but only cared about dating. Ning Weijin then calmly revealed he had called the dean, who confirmed that Shu Yiran had voluntarily applied to come to Beijing and had specifically asked the dean not to inform him. Dingding then addressed Shu Yiran, acknowledging her feelings but advising her, "You are so excellent.
You should not waste your time on the impossible." With that, Dingding and Ning Weijin left hand-in-hand, leaving Shu Yiran kneeling on the floor, weeping as her years of love ended in futility. Shu Yiran decided to terminate her participation in the seminar and returned to the hospital early. To her surprise, her intern had kept her desk spotlessly clean. The intern, unaware of her early return, explained that he cleaned it daily, fearing she would find it dirty.
He expressed his deep admiration for her, saying he believed her skills were on par with Ning Weijin's and that she was "very charming" when working hard. Hearing this, Shu Yiran reflected on how much she had changed and "deteriorated" in her pursuit of Ning Weijin, realizing her "true self." Later, Shu Yiran met with Gao Ren, telling him her confession to Ning Weijin was "to give myself an explanation" and "a relief."
She acknowledged that she had become "more and more annoying" and "not myself anymore" since Ning Weijin and Dingding got together, realizing a good relationship should make both parties better. Gao Ren, happy to see her returning to her proud self, then confessed his own long-standing feelings for her, going back to their college days. He recounted how he had accidentally brought her into their social circle, only for her to fall for Ning Weijin, his best friend.
Torn between his friend and his "dream lover," he became part of their "trio," waiting six years for her to either give up Ning Weijin or for them to officially get together so he could move on. He admitted he hadn't confessed earlier for fear of breaking up their friendship.
However, recent events had made him re-evaluate his feelings, realizing he needed to "face my feelings honestly" and that his feelings for her were more of an "obsesssion" that he needed to move past. Shu Yiran, touched by his loyalty, thanked him for his companionship. She then revealed her plans to "study abroad," which Gao Ren supported, wishing her well in finding her own happiness in a new environment.
