Over a thousand years ago, Xue Ji awoke in a desolate wilderness, revived without pain or wounds. Her parents, Mr. Liu and his wife, lay dead and bloody beside her. Nearby, her sister Yu Han was severely injured, having been stabbed multiple times and with a long knife cut on her face. Knowing Yu Han was hungry, Xue Ji bit her finger and fed her own blood to save her, then left to find water.
When she returned, Yu Han was fully recovered; her facial injury and all other wounds were gone. Yu Han then coldly asked Xue Ji why she saved her. Following her awakening, En Shan (also referred to as Lai Enshan) brought Xue Ji to a remote village. Villagers, believing Xue Ji's blood could cure diseases and seeing her as a lifesaver, wanted to catch her to drink her blood and eat her flesh.
To protect Xue Ji, En Shan pretended to cooperate, agreeing to kill her on their wedding night to create a false impression of her death, thus saving her from the villagers' slaughter. Xue Ji later realized that Gu Shiyi was this same En Shan. In the present day, during Gu Shiyi's press conference, after his emotional performance, Lin Beila, who was controlling the lights, deliberately targeted Xue Ji in the front row with a spotlight, exposing her to the media.
Reporters immediately swarmed to interview and photograph Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi rushed down from the stage, grabbed Xue Ji, and fled the venue. Li Zhe arrived at the scene and witnessed this, attempting to intervene or also take Xue Ji, but Gu Shiyi successfully escaped with her, leaving behind a worried Li Zhe and a confused audience. Gu Shiyi took Xue Ji to a tool room. There, he showed her a photo of a serene-smiling woman.
Xue Ji was shocked, recognizing the woman as her sister, Yu Han, and realizing, "After all these years, you still came." Gu Shiyi informed Xue Ji that Lin Beila was the chairman of his company. Xue Ji expressed concern that after more than a thousand years, Yu Han (now Lin Beila) still sought opportunities to harm her. Later, as Xue Ji and Gu Shiyi were leaving the company, Xue Ji accidentally cut her arm.
Gu Shiyi, visibly concerned, picked her up and carried her out of the company. Back home, Li Zhe was waiting for Xue Ji. He informed her that Lin Beila, seeking revenge, had been systematically murdering happy families and helpless orphans for pleasure. Li Zhe revealed that his own family was among those brutally killed by Lin Beila. Xue Ji, having already told Li Zhe that Lin Beila was her sister Yu Han, realized the extent of Lin Beila's evil.
She recalled her past mistake of saving a "demon," and felt immense guilt, realizing her attempt to save her sister long ago had inadvertently led to the harm of many innocent people. Xue Ji decided she must confront Lin Beila, stating that only she could resolve the situation. At the company, the president scolded Gu Shiyi for the scandal and for ruining the press conference.
Lin Beila, the company's chairman, instead of being angry, comforted Gu Shiyi and stated that while she doesn't interfere with artists' private lives, she wanted to meet Gu Shiyi's girlfriend. She then planned a dinner party, specifically instructing Gu Shiyi to invite Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi, pretending ignorance, agreed. Upon hearing the news, Xue Ji happily agreed, believing it was time to properly talk with her long-lost sister. While talking with Gu Shiyi, he accidentally touched Xue Ji's still-healing wound.
Xue Ji winced and recoiled her hand. Gu Shiyi, concerned, tried to examine it, but Xue Ji stopped him, jokingly saying she had tricked him. Later, in the bathroom, Xue Ji removed the bandage, puzzled as to why the wound, sustained days earlier, had still not healed. Xue Ji, elegantly dressed, arrived at the dinner party with Li Zhe, Jiang Huai, and Chun Shan. She saw Lin Beila warmly greeting guests.
Xue Ji prepared to approach Lin Beila, but stopped Li Zhe from following, not wanting to involve innocent people in their conflict. Meanwhile, Chun Shan's ex-girlfriend, Lisa, was also present. She excitedly greeted Chun Shan, who responded with cold indifference. Lisa then pointedly introduced herself to Jiang Huai, hinting at her past relationship with Chun Shan. Sensing the awkward situation, Jiang Huai made an excuse to leave, and Chun Shan followed her, leaving Lisa to watch them, losing her smile.
Lin Beila then noticed Xue Ji and calmly approached her. Xue Ji, not in the mood for pleasantries, directly asked about Lin Beila's purpose for the evening. Lin Beila, without immediately answering, walked onto the stage, quieted the audience, and publicly introduced Xue Ji as her sister and as Gu Shiyi's girlfriend. Xue Ji instantly became the renewed target of public attention. After Lin Beila descended, Xue Ji confronted her, demanding to know her true intentions.
Lin Beila, smiling, whispered to Xue Ji, "Which news will come out first: Gu Shiyi's death, or Gu Shiyi's new girlfriend being revealed?" Xue Ji immediately realized Gu Shiyi was absent from the event and his safety was at risk. She tried to hide her mounting anxiety and urgency, demanding to know Gu Shiyi's whereabouts and requesting to speak with Lin Beila alone in a quiet place.
Lin Beila simply smiled, then pulled out a handgun and fired a shot, causing the guests to panic and flee. With many people gone, Xue Ji and Lin Beila began their confrontation.
