A thousand years ago, Liu Yuhan, Master Liu's illegitimate daughter, was redeemed from a brothel and brought into the Liu family. Initially shy and fearful, Liu Yuhan was warmly embraced by Xue Ji, who affectionately called her "sister" and immediately arranged for servants to prepare a hot bath and soup for her. They quickly formed a close sisterly bond, though Liu Yuhan overheard passersby discussing her origins as a courtesan redeemed from a brothel.
One evening, while Liu Yuhan was walking in a secluded area, a group of hooligans, aware of her origins, accosted her and attempted to molest her. Lai Enshan, the county magistrate's son, intervened, drawing his sword and saving her before leaving with a brief warning for her to depart. Liu Yuhan was deeply affected by his heroism and appearance. Xue Ji later teased Liu Yuhan about her "lover," though Liu Yuhan insisted she had only met him once.
Days later, the Liu family welcomed a distinguished guest. Liu Yuhan, peeking through a window, recognized him as her rescuer. To her dismay, she learned from servants that the guest was Lai Enshan, who had come to propose marriage to Xue Ji. Liu Yuhan's joy instantly turned to despair. However, Master Liu refused, citing her background from the brothel as an unsuitable status for such a match. That night, Liu Yuhan secretly penned a letter accusing both Master Liu and the county magistrate of abusing their power and embezzling funds, thinking, "If I can't have it, we all die together." This Liu Yuhan, whose love had curdled into malice, is revealed to be the present-day Lin Beila, the director of Yinhua Group. In the present, Xue Ji is deeply contemplative about recent events and her own case, vowing to find those responsible.
She reflects on how smoothly things have gone since her return from the isolated island, fearing that what comes easily may be lost easily. She asks Tao De to investigate her stalkers and send her any findings, receiving blurry photos that she finds familiar but cannot recognize. Xue Ji also expresses concern to Gu Shiyi about someone tracking them, and to Chun Shan, asking him to pick up Jiang Huai daily.
She receives an invitation to Gu Shiyi's new song release concert, noting her first-row seat while Jiang Huai and Chun Shan are in the third row, but initially dismisses it. Gu Shiyi secretly meets Xue Ji, showing his deep affection and comforting her about her worries, promising he will never leave her or let her get hurt again. He also takes her swimming.
Lin Beila (also referred to as Miss Lin) practices her shooting skills, consistently hitting the target, and harbors deep resentment towards Xue Ji, vowing to destroy everything Xue Ji loves, one by one. As the director of Yinhua Group, she instructs her secretary to invite numerous media outlets to Gu Shiyi's concert, planning a "big show" and arranging for photos to be released publicly at an opportune moment.
Meanwhile, Li Zhe's assistant discovers that fingerprints left on Li Zhe's door handle from over a decade, specifically sixteen years ago, match those of Lin Beila. However, the individual initially investigated by the police for the incident 16 years ago has since disappeared, and Lin Beila later re-emerged with a new identity, making it difficult to directly accuse her as the killer based solely on these fingerprints. Li Zhe instructs his assistant to uncover more details about Lin Beila's background.
He contacts an elder, who agrees to cooperate in the investigation but advises not to act rashly. Li Zhe briefly interacts with Lin Beila, informing her he won't attend the concert. At the scheduled concert, Xue Ji attends dressed discreetly. Gu Shiyi, upon taking the stage, searches for her and nods with relief when he sees her in the first row. Behind the scenes, Lin Beila dismisses the site manager and takes control of the projection room.
During the concert, Li Zhe, who is driving, receives a critical call from his assistant revealing a new development: Lin Beila and Xue Ji are blood relatives. This shocking information causes Li Zhe to brake his car abruptly, then turn back, desperately trying to reach Xue Ji by phone amidst the concert's noise before rushing to the venue himself.
