Long For You Recap
Episode 1 Recap
Xue Ji, having existed for over a thousand years, has witnessed the world's myriad wonders and the cycle of life and death, finding little meaning in her prolonged existence. Despite this, she has spent millennia searching every corner of the world for a specific face hidden deep within her dreams. The castle owner, Li Shizong, lay dying. His butler, Tao De, reported that Xue Ji would not visit him. Li Shizong, still clinging to life, made his final arrangements.
He inquired about Xue Ji's well-being and, fulfilling a long-standing promise, bequeathed his entire massive fortune, amounting to 2. 1 billion, to Xue Ji before passing away. At Li Shizong's funeral, family members, including his wife Qin Si, gathered under black umbrellas. Their silence was not one of sorrow but of hidden motives and calculations concerning the coveted inheritance. They anxiously awaited the arrival of Xue Ji, the "illegitimate daughter" who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
Xue Ji, having lived on an isolated island for eighteen years, was enjoying her newfound freedom and exploring the world. Tao De eventually found her and asked her to return to handle the inheritance. Xue Ji, reflecting on her long-awaited exposure to the outside world, told him, "If I go back with you, I won't return" to the island, believing Tao De couldn't understand her profound longing for the world beyond the island.
Meanwhile, Qin Si was furious about the inheritance distribution. She confronted Tao De, who rebuffed her and warned her to be mindful of her private life. Undeterred, Qin Si conspired with her lover to orchestrate a secret, "accidental death" for Xue Ji, fearing that if the inheritance decision wasn't thwarted, she would lose both the money and expose her affair. Tao De and Xue Ji spent time exploring the streets of France.
Tao De informed her that Li Shizong had left her 2 billion USD. Xue Ji's first act after receiving her inheritance was to purchase her desired sports car, a Maserati, inspired by the male protagonist of a drama she was following. Xue Ji, fresh from playing games, delegated all management tasks to Tao De, showing a calm indifference.
When Tao De questioned her lack of sorrow over her father's death, Xue Ji explained that having lived for a thousand years, she viewed human life and death dispassionately. She noted that Li Shizong had lived to be eighty and that his death was merely a natural conclusion. Her primary emotion was gratitude for the freedom his passing had brought her from the isolated island.
Tao De also advised her to protect herself due to Li Shizong's extensive charitable activities, but Xue Ji trusted Tao De to handle the money, just as Li Shizong had. In the dark of night, a figure wearing a white cape and a bamboo hat repeatedly murmured "I'm sorry" before vanishing into the darkness.
Xue Ji jolted awake in her empty surroundings, still anxiously wondering when the person who consistently appeared in her dreams would finally manifest in reality, hoping to recover her memories. Xue Ji officially arrived at Li Shizong's castle as the illegitimate daughter. At a family dinner, she met Qin Si, Wen Lei (identified as the Second Madam in one account and the Third Madam in another), Lisa (the eldest wife's daughter), and the Second Madam's children, Xue Li and Koni.
Xue Li mentioned that Li Zhe, identified as either the non-biological or adopted son of Wen Lei, had not yet arrived. The atmosphere at the table, despite appearing harmonious, was filled with veiled attempts to probe Xue Ji's identity and her plans for the inheritance. Koni questioned how she would manage the property, and Qin Si directly asked if she was Li Shizong's biological daughter.
Xue Ji, seeking an excuse to leave the family gathering, encountered Li Zhe, who offered to give her a ride home. She tacitly agreed, walked out with him, but then refused his offer, opting instead to get into Tao De's car which had just arrived. This interaction significantly piqued Li Zhe's initial curiosity about Xue Ji.
Xue Ji embarked on a refreshing solo journey, exploring the streets of France, admiring foreign landscapes from high vantage points, and playfully interacting with street performers, fulfilling long-held desires from her time on the island. Li Zhe visited Xue Ji, bringing a cake. While Xue Ji was unpacking parcels, Li Zhe recounted his childhood visit to the island, where he had met Xue Ji's mother, whose solitary figure had left a lasting impression.
Xue Ji, visibly uncomfortable, subtly steered the conversation away from her mother. Their friendly discussions quickly fostered familiarity between them. Li Zhe then took Xue Ji to the seaside, where, as dusk settled, Xue Ji spoke of her dreams, expressing her desire to find the recurring figure to unlock her memories, a sentiment Li Zhe struggled to comprehend. Later, Xue Ji borrowed Li Zhe's car and drove down a secluded road, unaware that Qin Si's henchmen were closely following her. The assassins, having tracked her movements, blocked her car. One raised a gun, aimed, and fired. With a "bang," Xue Ji was shot directly in the heart.
Episode 2 Recap
Qin Si, resting by a window and shaking a glass of red wine, awaited good news from an assassin. Upon receiving a photo of Xue Ji shot and collapsed, she took a sip of wine, a satisfied smile on her lips. Meanwhile, Li Zhe, having just concluded a business deal, arrived at Xue Ji's villa with a cake. Finding her absent after ringing the doorbell repeatedly, he called Tao De, who was equally unaware of her whereabouts.
They quickly realized Xue Ji might be in danger. Tao De explained that the villa was registered under his name and he had installed surveillance cameras for Xue Ji's safety, which confirmed she had not returned the previous night. As they frantically searched the villa for clues, Tao De recalled Xue Ji's mother dying in a car accident.
However, when he stated the year of her mother's death, a significant time discrepancy arose with Li Zhe's own memory of seeing Xue Ji's mother years later when he was five. This inconsistency immediately raised Li Zhe's suspicions about Xue Ji's true identity. Discarded in the wilderness, Xue Ji, who has lived for over a thousand years and cannot be easily killed by a mere bullet, suddenly opened her eyes and sat up.
She called Tao De to pick her up. Tao De arrived to find Xue Ji covered in blood and expressed concern, offering to take her to a hospital. Xue Ji refused, insisting on returning home. Once at the villa, Xue Ji recovered completely, her body unharmed. Tao De, having previously helped investigate Xue Ji's identity, was amazed but decided to conceal her extraordinary recovery. He advised Xue Ji to change her blood-stained clothes as Li Zhe was on his way.
Li Zhe soon rushed to the villa, relieved to see Xue Ji emerge unharmed from the bathroom. Xue Ji, however, lied, claiming she had been robbed in the wild. Li Zhe was surprised by her casual recounting of such a dangerous event and regretted not being with her. Xue Ji, feeling a rare warmth from Li Zhe's genuine concern—a feeling she hadn't experienced in her many years of solitude—was touched.
However, Li Zhe's renewed suspicions resurfaced when, while excusing himself to the restroom, he discovered Xue Ji's blood-stained clothes. Terrified, he questioned if this mysteriously behaving girl was truly just a simple illegitimate daughter. Back at her home, Qin Si, who was discussing property inheritance with her lawyer, was initially delighted that all assets would fall to her after Xue Ji's supposed death.
This changed when she received a call from Tao De informing her that Xue Ji was alive and wanted to meet the following afternoon to discuss the inheritance. Qin Si, her plans shattered, frantically called the assassin, who confidently confirmed Xue Ji's death. Yet, looking at the photo of Xue Ji's "death," Qin Si was overcome with deep fear. The next day, Xue Ji arrived at the Li residence for lunch with Qin Si.
She engaged in polite conversation as if nothing had happened, subtly mentioning the day's events, which made Qin Si increasingly uneasy and terrified. After lunch, Xue Ji invited Qin Si for a walk. They went to a secluded spot near a tree, away from prying eyes. Xue Ji, having shrewdly deduced everything, relentlessly pressed Qin Si to confess her actions.
Qin Si, pushed to the brink of collapse, finally admitted her motive: having lived with a seventy-year-old man for ten years and enduring constant gossip, she desperately wanted to secure what she desired. Xue Ji then pulled out a handgun, challenging Qin Si to a "bullet gamble" or to shoot her, stating there were bullets inside. Qin Si, utterly terrified and begging for mercy, refused to even touch the gun.
Seeing Qin Si cowering like a trapped mouse, Xue Ji smiled faintly, emptied the bullets from the gun, and told Qin Si never to provoke her again before sparing her life. Hidden nearby, Li Zhe had witnessed the entire confrontation. Xue Ji, who had already noticed his presence, met his gaze. Unable to contain himself any longer, Li Zhe stepped out and demanded to know Xue Ji's true identity.
Episode 3 Recap
Xue Ji, who is Xue Ji with nothing to hide, finds herself questioned by Li Zhe. She contemplates whether revealing the secret of her resurrection and her immortal, already non-human body would harm him. Li Zhe, however, is more concerned with Xue Ji's honesty than the truth behind her secrets, finding himself inexplicably concerned and attached to this newly arrived illegitimate daughter of the Li family and wishing to be the one for her.
Her earliest memory of rebirth involved a flash of lightning illuminating three discarded bodies in the wilderness. Xue Ji, in a white, blood-stained gown, shook into life, horrified to find her family members without breath. She wept in despair, realizing she was condemned to a thousand years of solitude, a path she would walk alone, forever haunted by past memories and dreams.
Li Zhe's suspicions about Xue Ji's identity deepen as he searches his study, discovering a photo of her by the beach. He recalls her extraordinary calmness when facing death, specifically after being shot, a resilience far beyond ordinary people. He confronts Tao De for answers. Tao De, however, remains silent, honoring his promise, or stating he only knows what he should know. Li Zhe notes Tao De's composed demeanor even on the day Xue Ji had an accident.
Despite his doubts about her identity, Li Zhe never questions Xue Ji's character. He repeatedly instructs Tao De to maintain constant vigilance over everyone in the Li family to prevent Xue Ji from being harmed again. Li Zhe emphasizes that he isn't interested in her background or money, but warns that many people covet her, especially given his own experience living in isolation for a long time. He specifically tells Tao De not to inform Xue Ji about their conversation.
After Li Zhe departs, Tao De reflects on Li Shizong's dying words. Tao De admits he wasn't entirely convinced by Li Shizong's will but understood that Xue Ji was Li Shizong's irreparable weakness, someone he desperately wished to compensate. Li Shizong had explained that seeing Xue Ji evoked feelings of deep regret and apology, and the money, including 10% of the company shares, was merely a token to her.
His final request to Tao De was to take good care of her, a duty Tao De vowed to obey and protect. Xue Ji concludes her inheritance matters and flies back to China, smiling contentedly on the plane at Tao De's arrangements. Upon landing, she drives a Lamborghini alone. Later, at a coffee shop, she browses Weibo, specifically searching for a girl born on the same year, month, and day as herself.
Finding Jiang Huai, she notes her numerous posts about finding housing, smiles, and follows her account. Meanwhile, Jiang Huai, an ordinary female university student, is distraught, her lease expiring and with nowhere to go. She receives a message from Xue Ji and realizes they share the exact same birthday.
She prepares to leave her rental home, where Gu Shiyi, a sunny, clean-faced young man and her long-time friend, is waiting for her in a car he proudly reveals he bought with a recent signing bonus. Noticing Jiang Huai's distress over housing, Gu Shiyi takes her for a drive. Jiang Huai, however, uses the opportunity to ask about job prospects. Gu Shiyi suggests she work at his friend's coffee shop, which temporarily eases her worries.
However, their harmony is abruptly broken when Gu Shiyi accidentally scrapes a red Ferrari, which belongs to Xue Ji, who is present at the coffee shop. Xue Ji and Gu Shiyi meet for the first time in this unexpected manner. Xue Ji immediately recognizes Gu Shiyi as the person from her dreams. While she isn't angry about the car damage, her nonchalant and seemingly teasing demeanor unsettles Jiang Huai and frustrates Gu Shiyi.
Not interested in immediate compensation, Xue Ji takes their phone numbers and arranges to discuss the matter another day before leaving gracefully. Separately, Madam Min lies pale and frail, having received a terminal diagnosis of late-stage cancer. She chooses to live her remaining six months comfortably rather than enduring painful treatments. Her secretary soon arrives with news of Xue Ji's return to China.
Madam Min rises, looking out the window, filled with eager anticipation for Xue Ji's arrival, believing that only Xue Ji can save her. Jiang Huai attends the job interview at the coffee shop Gu Shiyi recommended and is hired immediately. She secretly resolves to work hard to earn money and find a home of her own. While working, Xue Ji calls to discuss the car repair compensation. Reluctantly, Jiang Huai agrees to meet her at the coffee shop.
Expecting a formidable 200,000 yuan debt, Jiang Huai is astonished when Xue Ji instead invites her to live together, proposing Jiang Huai become her housekeeper for a year to offset the repair costs. Jiang Huai considers the offer, realizing it would also save her rent. It is then that Jiang Huai recognizes Xue Ji as the one who followed her Weibo.
Xue Ji further reveals their mothers were friends, and their connection dates back to Jiang Huai's childhood when she was lost. Jiang Huai accepts the proposal and calls Gu Shiyi. The two seemingly unrelated girls thus begin a cohabitation, brought together by a wondrous twist of fate.
Episode 4 Recap
Li Zhe returns to China with Xue Ji, still worried about her. He is put in charge of training new talents at an entertainment company. Later, he cancels his evening plans to text Xue Ji, then brings her a cake and sees Gu Shiyi by her side. After sending Xue Ji home, Li Zhe asks her if Gu Shiyi is the man from her dreams, but Xue Ji replies that everything is uncertain.
He jokingly suggests staying over, but Xue Ji immediately refuses. As he leaves, Li Zhe tells Xue Ji he hopes he is the man in her dreams, wondering why she is so obsessed with a dream person and why it cannot be him. The next day, while reviewing artist files for new debuts, Li Zhe discovers Gu Shiyi is among the debuting group, piquing his interest.
Gu Shiyi is a key trainee at the entertainment company, part of a band undergoing rigorous training and strict personal restrictions as they prepare for debut. His friends warn him to hide any romantic relationships from the Company President. One day, his ex-girlfriend arrives at the company to request a reconciliation, but Gu Shiyi firmly rejects her. She insists that their relationship is not over.
During their dispute, they are coincidentally seen by the Company President, who advises Gu Shiyi that he cannot be in a relationship before his debut. Gu Shiyi, momentarily speechless, accepts his fault and prepares for a recording session. His gentle, melancholic singing deeply moves the President and a planner, leading them to reconsider a group debut and potentially allow him to debut as a solo artist.
Later, after Xue Ji and Jiang Huai finish discussing compensation, Gu Shiyi expresses suspicion that Xue Ji is deliberately using the compensation to trouble Jiang Huai. When taking Xue Ji home, Gu Shiyi asks her not to implicate Jiang Huai further. Xue Ji unequivocally reveals her purpose: to find the man from her dreams to unlock memories, stating that Gu Shiyi is that very man.
Gu Shiyi finds this claim absurd, believing that searching for someone based purely on dreams is preposterous and that he could not possibly dream of someone he doesn't know. As they argue outside the car, Li Zhe arrives with a cake. Gu Shiyi later recalls Xue Ji's words about dreams and calls Jiang Huai the next morning, warning her to stay away from Xue Ji. However, Xue Ji, who is nearby, snatches the phone and hangs up.
Jiang Huai, initially confused by Xue Ji's dream claims, gradually understands Xue Ji's obsession after Xue Ji shows her research materials. Meanwhile, Madam Min, sitting in a wheelchair and sighing softly, becomes vibrant and energetic upon her secretary's announcement of Mr. Qi's arrival. She greets her lover, whom she hasn't seen in years, with immense relief and emotion. Mr. Qi expresses concern about her illness, lovingly chiding her for not accepting treatment.
Madam Min remains steadfast, stating she doesn't want to lose her hair, but believes someone can save her, and she will live well. Mr. Qi promises he will wait for her recovery. Xue Ji finds a house for herself and Jiang Huai, but the move-in date is delayed by several weeks to a month. Jiang Huai's own lease is set to expire in a week, leaving her temporarily homeless and distressed.
In the evening, while eating instant noodles on the balcony, Xue Ji and Jiang Huai chat, and Jiang Huai gradually comes to appreciate Xue Ji's optimism and kindness, fostering a closer relationship. From Jiang Huai, Xue Ji learns about Gu Shiyi's situation as a key trainee living with his group members in an apartment. Inspired, Xue Ji devises a solution: temporarily stay at Gu Shiyi's apartment to awaken his dormant dreams.
When Xue Ji and Jiang Huai unexpectedly arrive at his apartment with their luggage, Gu Shiyi is annoyed and helpless. To offset a 200,000 yuan debt, he grudgingly allows them to stay, asking Jiang Huai to endure for twenty days and to keep their presence a secret from the Company President. Xue Ji, seeing how clean and tidy Gu Shiyi's room is, immediately jumps onto his bed, prompting Gu Shiyi to tell her to get off.
She responds by saying she wishes she had 200,000 yuan so she could stay in a hotel. Gu Shiyi has no choice but to speak with Jiang Huai. Soon, the other trainees return to the apartment. In this small apartment, "sparks" begin to ignite between Gu Shiyi and Xue Ji.
Episode 5 Recap
Xue Ji, a bright and generous woman, quickly earned the favor and trust of Gu Shiyi's friends and roommates, Ming Ze and Tai Hou, who readily approved her request to reside in their apartment. Gu Shiyi alone remained distant and disapproving. Gu Shiyi later confided in Jiang Huai, explaining that he did not dislike Xue Ji, but questioned her sincerity.
He felt she was pursuing him because of a dream, and he feared her affection would vanish if he were not the person from that dream. He was also secretly studying "global dream analysis," while Xue Ji consistently addressed him as "Xiang Gong" (husband/master), which Gu Shiyi found insincere. On a full moon night, both Gu Shiyi and Xue Ji found themselves on the rooftop or balcony.
Xue Ji displayed unwavering affection and dependence toward Gu Shiyi, asking if he, too, had seen such a moon in his dreams. Gu Shiyi, despite an earlier lessening of his aversion, found her words strange and gave her a cold look. He felt compelled to resist the connection, believing Xue Ji's admiration, rooted in a dream, was merely a purposeful facade. Impulsively, Gu Shiyi asked, "If that's the case, why not directly propose dating?"
Xue Ji's eyes brightened, and she asked if such a question was permissible. Her surprisingly direct and affirmative response prompted Gu Shiyi to retreat to his room, realizing he was developing feelings himself. That night, Gu Shiyi had the same dream that Xue Ji had experienced hundreds of times: a figure in a long robe and a bamboo hat, hurriedly departing under a crescent moon, repeatedly uttering "I'm sorry" with despair and heaviness. Gu Shiyi awoke startled.
The following day, Gu Shiyi, Ming Ze, and Tai Hou returned to their apartment to find it overflowing with Xue Ji's packages. Xue Ji had purchased various gifts for her roommates to curry favor, further endearing herself to them. She presented Tai Hou with a game console and Ming Ze with global limited edition shoes, leading them to affectionately call her a "little angel." Xue Ji then knelt before Gu Shiyi, offering him a gift box.
After he repeatedly asked, he opened it to find not an expensive limited edition item, but couple's T-shirts hand-painted by Xue Ji, depicting "ugly" versions of them holding hands. Gu Shiyi feigned annoyance that his gift was "shabby" compared to others' limited editions, but he quickly retreated to his room, secretly trying on the shirt and admiring himself in the mirror, thoroughly delighted. Later, Jiang Huai returned home, also excited by the gifts Xue Ji had bought for her.
The doorbell rang, and the elated roommates, expecting another delivery, opened the door, took a cake that had arrived, and promptly shut it, inadvertently blocking Li Zhe, who had come to visit Xue Ji. A furious Li Zhe knocked again, entered the apartment, and expressed his distress and jealousy at finding Xue Ji there. Xue Ji declined his offer to buy her a house and invited everyone to share the cake.
Li Zhe, noticing Gu Shiyi reading on the sofa, subtly inquired about Xue Ji's ideal type of man. Looking happily at Gu Shiyi, Xue Ji described someone tall and handsome, an "iceberg" on the outside but with an inwardly cute personality. Seeing no hope of persuading Xue Ji to leave the "shabby" apartment, Li Zhe insisted on staying.
Gu Shiyi and Li Zhe sat on opposite sides of the sofa, glaring fiercely at each other, with Li Zhe defiantly vowing not to sleep on the sofa. However, the next morning, Ming Ze discovered Li Zhe and Gu Shiyi sleeping together. Meanwhile, Jiang Huai, dressed up, went on a date with a boy she liked at the cinema. His flirtatious gestures made her blush, stirring her budding romantic feelings.
Gu Shiyi returned home to find Xue Ji waiting in the kitchen, preparing a cake she had learned to bake from a book. Her culinary skills were poor; the cake looked nothing like the picture in the book. As she prepared to restart, Gu Shiyi stopped her, took a spoonful, and declared it delicious. Xue Ji, excited, tasted it herself and found it utterly unappetizing. Suddenly, all the lights went out, and the apartment experienced a power outage.
The normally calm Xue Ji became disoriented and panicked by the sudden darkness, which reminded her of her recurring dreams where she could not see any light. She fumbled desperately for her phone. Gu Shiyi, seeing Xue Ji's fear for the first time, felt a pang of tenderness and quickly retrieved a nightlight for the dining table. The faint light gradually alleviated Xue Ji's fear, and in its dim glow, the two, who had initially resisted, felt their hearts unknowingly draw closer.
Episode 6 Recap
Xue Ji, who was afraid of the dark, found it difficult to sleep, sometimes sitting on the rooftop looking at the moon, and other times on the balcony waiting for the power to return. Gu Shiyi accompanied her, and when Xue Ji, tired but afraid to return to her room, went to bed, Gu Shiyi stayed with her until she fell asleep.
Xue Ji praised Gu Shiyi's good looks, making him feel embarrassed and want to leave, but she warned him the room would be very dark without light, so he returned to her side. After Xue Ji fell into a sweet sleep, Gu Shiyi secretly and joyfully stroked her hair and touched her cheek. Eventually, a tired Gu Shiyi succumbed to sleep, leaning against the wall.
Gu Shiyi then had a dream where he, dressed in red, was performing marriage rites with a bride, seemingly becoming a married couple. Despite it being a joyous occasion, he was expressionless, with only two silent lines of hot tears. When he lifted the veil, a meticulously dressed Xue Ji looked at him. Gu Shiyi suddenly woke from the dream, looking around to find no wedding hall or bridal chamber.
Xue Ji was still sleeping soundly beside him; everything was as it was before. Soon after, a knocking sound at the door awakened Xue Ji. Tai Hou and Min Ze rushed home nervously, telling Xue Ji there was a group of black-clad men causing trouble at their dorm entrance. By the time the men arrived at the door, Xue Ji went out to check. It turned out they were people sent by Li Zhe to help her move her belongings.
Min Ze laughingly commented that she must be a princess from some country, extraordinarily wealthy. Seeing such a large contingent, Gu Shiyi began to suspect Xue Ji's identity and asked her who she really was. Xue Ji responded that she was the adopted daughter of a rich man and meaningfully told Gu Shiyi that if he truly wanted to know who she was, he would know.
Thus, Xue Ji and Jiang Huai ended their cohabitation with Gu Shiyi and moved into Xue Ji's own luxurious villa. Li Zhe came to help with the move. Seeing Xue Ji tirelessly searching for the person from her dreams, Li Zhe felt great sympathy for her and feared she would be harmed.
He also told Xue Ji that she could tell him if she ever felt unhappy, but Xue Ji remained unmoved, believing everything would be worth it once she found the answer, and adding that she was usually very optimistic, only crying under her covers when sad. Jiang Huai was greatly astonished by the villa's size and luxury, joyfully exploring it with her luggage, though she worried about the cleaning.
Xue Ji told Jiang Huai her demands were not high, only requiring home-cooked meals whenever she was home, and they agreed on weekly cleaning. Jiang Huai opened the refrigerator to find it empty, so Xue Ji gave her a black card and suggested they go shopping, or told her to buy whatever she liked. While practicing in the rehearsal room, Gu Shiyi sat distractedly, staring at his phone.
Tai Hou and Min Ze saw through his thoughts, and Gu Shiyi finally called Jiang Huai, who was then shopping with Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi asked if Jiang Huai had mistakenly taken his charger, despite Jiang Huai not having taken it, she found it in her bag, leaving her puzzled.
Gu Shiyi insisted he needed it urgently, even when Min Ze offered his own charger, because, unknown to Jiang Huai, Gu Shiyi had secretly snuck into the room and placed it in her bag, using this as an excuse to meet Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi arrived at Xue Ji's home, but Jiang Huai had already gone to school. Gu Shiyi went upstairs to retrieve the charger and saw Xue Ji sleeping on the living room floor.
Concerned that Xue Ji would catch a cold, he gently picked her up and carried her towards a room. Halfway there, he realized Xue Ji was secretly watching him from his arms, making her very happy. Gu Shiyi, embarrassed, abruptly dropped her onto the bed. In his haste, he accidentally lost his balance and fell onto the bed himself, landing on Xue Ji. They looked at each other, very embarrassed.
Xue Ji was very excited to see Gu Shiyi actively coming to find her. Gu Shiyi vaguely brought up the dream he had that night, expressing that he no longer wanted to live in a dream world and continue with Xue Ji. He had originally wanted to end everything quickly, but looking at the flustered Xue Ji beneath him, he didn't even know himself whether this dream should come true.
Meanwhile, Madam Min had commissioned a secret investigation to find a specific girl, crucial to saving her life, whose unique temperament and extraordinary mindset were deeply engraved in her mind. She inspected photos, but none were the girl she sought, requiring her to restart the investigation. Separately, Madam Min asked her secretary to collect information on Xue Ji, but the secretary mistakenly gathered information on the wrong person and was consequently scolded.
Jiang Huai received a call from her mother, who wanted to stay at Jiang Huai's home for a night, or perhaps a week. Jiang Huai, having a favor to ask, prepared a lavish lunch for Xue Ji. During the meal, Jiang Huai subtly brought up her request. Xue Ji recalled Jiang Huai's mother previously mentioning being friends with Xue Ji's mother, which made her hesitate. After Xue Ji learned about the request, she eventually agreed to Jiang Huai's mother staying but also proposed certain conditions.
Episode 7 Recap
Xue Ji agrees to Jiang Huai's request but asks her never to mention her "mom" again, to which Jiang Huai readily agrees. Jiang Huai asks Xue Ji how one knows if they are in love, and Xue Ji responds that sometimes even she doesn't know when she falls into it. Shortly after, Xue Ji receives a call from her butler, Tao De, about urgent business. She goes to his residence, where Li Zhe is also present.
Tao De informs them that Xue Ji no longer needs to participate in charity events and delivers the news that Li Keni has suddenly died in a traffic accident in France. Xue Ji is told she needs to return to France to handle this, prompting her to internally sneer about someone's "dirty hands" and remark that some people are too greedy. Meanwhile, at school, Jiang Huai is walking with a senior she has a crush on.
Gu Shiyi's ex-girlfriend, A Ying, approaches them, intending to use Jiang Huai to create an opportunity to interact with Gu Shiyi. A Ying invites Jiang Huai for coffee, but Jiang Huai, annoyed and citing her mother's upcoming move to the villa, declines and rushes off. As A Ying expresses disappointment, the senior, who had been secretly observing her, invites A Ying for coffee with ulterior motives. A thoughtful A Ying accepts. Jiang Huai moves her mother into Xue Ji's villa.
Jiang Huai's mother excitedly questions Xue Ji's family situation, but Jiang Huai, unwilling to discuss it, hastily interrupts her. Jiang Huai's mother then realizes Xue Ji is the daughter of her old friend, Shan Ai, and presents Shan Ai's belongings, including a photo album. Jiang Huai finds a picture of her mother with Shan Ai and remarks on how Shan Ai, in the photo, looks exactly like Xue Ji does now.
That night, after Jiang Huai's mother has gone to bed, Xue Ji returns home and sees the photo album handed to her by Jiang Huai. Her expression immediately turns flustered, though she tries to control it, also marveling at her mother's appearance in the past. Jiang Huai, cherishing her connection with Xue Ji, insists on taking a commemorative photo together.
Xue Ji, not wanting to leave any evidence of her former life, tightly covers most of her face with both hands during the photo. One night later, Jiang Huai's mother prepares to leave Xue Ji's home. She complains about Xue Ji's impoliteness for not seeing her off, prompting Jiang Huai to reluctantly wake Xue Ji. Jiang Huai's mother, shocked to see that Xue Ji looks exactly like Shan Ai, greets her warmly.
However, Xue Ji remains cold and indifferent, dismissing her and returning to her room. Jiang Huai's mother is confused and implicitly uneasy about Xue Ji's attitude, noticing Xue Ji's cold, intense gaze fixed on her as she leaves. Before her departure for France, Xue Ji assigns household chores to Jiang Huai and specifically asks her to take good care of her friend, Chun Shan, who will be temporarily residing at the villa.
She tells Jiang Huai she is going to France because her brother has died. At the airport, Butler Tao De awaits Xue Ji and reports the results of his recent investigation: Li Keni died from drunk driving, but an autopsy also revealed a significant amount of sleeping pills in his system, making his death highly suspicious. Tao De further warns Xue Ji that a prominent individual is secretly investigating her and advises her to be vigilant.
Later, Jiang Huai, returning from work, receives a call from Chun Shan, reminding her of his impending arrival. She rushes home, arriving exhausted and out of breath. As she catches her breath, a handsome young man with a poker face approaches her from behind, startling her when she turns around. Feeling uneasy and repeatedly apologizing for her disheveled state, Jiang Huai explains her situation. The easygoing Chun Shan, however, does not mind and forgives her. This marks their first meeting.
In France, Xue Ji returns to Li Shizong's castle, where Qin Si is elegantly drinking red wine. Qin Si greets Xue Ji with an overly enthusiastic smile, but Xue Ji scoffs at her feigned act, directly accusing her of involvement in Keni's murder.
Xue Ji implies that Keni's death was no accident and that Qin Si, as the primary beneficiary, would gain the most due to her boundless greed for Li Shizong's property, believing she would gamble conscience and others' lives for it, never stopping at just one win. Qin Si states she will not provoke Xue Ji but hopes Xue Ji will not interfere with her plans. Xue Ji responds that Qin Si will not be satisfied with what she has gained.
Before leaving, Xue Ji whispers a chilling warning: "If you lay your hands on me, I will fulfill my previous promise." Qin Si shivers in fear. In the French Li family's castle, several of Li Keni's wives and daughters gather to discuss his inheritance. Qin Si has already processed everything, asserting her right to the property as Keni's stepmother and based on their relationship. Though the other wives are furious and have objections, they remain silent.
Xue Ji, however, slowly raises her hand to formally object to the inheritance's proposed distribution. Meanwhile, in the practice room, Gu Shiyi, worried about Xue Ji, struggles with what to text her, eventually sending a brief message of condolence. Xue Ji immediately and excitedly calls him back. Gu Shiyi cautiously asks about her family matters.
While initially relieved by Xue Ji's nonchalant tone, he wonders if she would react with similar indifference if he were to meet with misfortune, given her casual remarks about the death of a close relative. Hearing Gu Shiyi's words, Xue Ji's joking tone suddenly disappears, and she firmly declares, "I won't let that happen to you," before hanging up and gazing blankly into the distance. Gu Shiyi is left feeling annoyed by the interaction.
Min Ze and Tai Hou then arrive, scolding Gu Shiyi for his proud, awkward temperament and his cold tone with Xue Ji. Their conversation is interrupted when the director arrives, introducing a noble-looking and beautiful young woman: Ms. Lin Beila, a board member of the entertainment company, to whom the band owes their debut. Ms. Lin is notably kind and approachable, showing particular admiration for Gu Shiyi. After a brief greeting, Ms. Lin smiles and leaves the practice room.
Episode 8 Recap
Xue Ji disputes the inheritance of Keni's estate, arguing that Keni would not be pleased if the killer were to receive his money. Qin Si, initially questioning Xue Ji's dissatisfaction despite receiving ten percent of the shares, then challenges Xue Ji by asking if she knows a person named Zhang Minzhi. Xue Ji is visibly shocked, her identity seemingly on the verge of exposure.
Li Zhe intervenes, claiming responsibility for introducing Xue Ji to Zhang Minzhi years ago and fabricating a story about having delivered gifts to Xue Ji on the island on Zhang Minzhi's behalf, thereby diffusing the immediate crisis. Li Zhe then announces the board's decision that Keni's entire estate will be donated to society, with Xue Ji now the Li family's largest shareholder. Qin Si is stunned by this news.
Li Zhe then escorts Xue Ji away from the Li family castle. Meanwhile, in China, Gu Shiyi and Jiang Huai are shopping at a supermarket. Jiang Huai receives a call from Aying, who is also at the supermarket and asks for Jiang Huai's location. Jiang Huai tries to avoid Aying meeting Gu Shiyi but is ultimately found. Just as Jiang Huai is trying to politely dismiss Aying, the appearance of the senior freezes her in place.
Within days, the senior, who was previously devoted to Jiang Huai, has shifted his attention to Aying. Jiang Huai, unable to express her anger, hurriedly takes Gu Shiyi away from the supermarket. The senior, surprised to see Jiang Huai with Gu Shiyi, asks Aying about Jiang Huai. Aying, unaware of the true situation, vaguely tells him that Jiang Huai lives with three guys, including Gu Shiyi, leading the senior to misunderstand their relationship.
Back home, a frustrated Jiang Huai paces and complains to Chun Shan. Chun Shan patiently listens and comforts her, even calling her "cute" when asked about his good qualities, which slightly brightens Jiang Huai's mood. Later, Xue Ji video calls Jiang Huai, showing her the French seaside, which Jiang Huai interprets as Xue Ji intentionally provoking her. Xue Ji then finds Jiang Huai drinking and expressing envy of Xue Ji's vast wealth.
Xue Ji responds by offering to swap lives with Jiang Huai, who happily accepts, and Xue Ji subsequently takes Jiang Huai on an extravagant shopping spree. During this time, Li Zhe meets Xue Ji at a fault line by the sea. Xue Ji reflects on the timelessness of the ocean compared to the brevity of human life and asks Li Zhe if he could endure solitude for a thousand years while loving only one person.
Li Zhe gives a bitter smile, remarking that most people struggle to love one person for a single lifetime, let alone a thousand years, and expresses a desire to travel the world if granted a thousand years. Secret intelligence regarding Xue Ji's whereabouts reaches Madame Min (Zhang Minzhi). Upon seeing Xue Ji's photograph, Madame Min becomes intensely agitated and decides to abandon her current medical treatment to return to China, despite her secretary's concerns for her safety, and requests painkillers.
Upon Xue Ji's return to China, Chun Shan is waiting for her at home. They embrace warmly and enter the villa, unaware that they are being secretly monitored from a nearby car. Xue Ji and Jiang Huai visit Gu Shiyi at an entertainment company. A rude receptionist obstructs them, dismissively telling Xue Ji that Gu Shiyi won't meet her unless she pays. Xue Ji calmly presents her business card, immediately deciding to invest in the company.
The company president, upon learning of Xue Ji's identity and intentions, quickly becomes deferential, causing the receptionist's attitude to immediately change. While discussing the investment, Xue Ji briefly spots Lin Beila quietly observing them from the side of a door. Lin Beila smiles and leaves, which Xue Ji finds odd but doesn't dwell on. Later, on the company rooftop, Xue Ji asks Gu Shiyi the same profound question: what would he do if he could live for a thousand years?
Gu Shiyi replies that he wouldn't wish to live that long alone, as it would be too lonely, preferring to spend even a single day with a loved one over thousands of solitary years. Xue Ji's eyes well up with tears as she realizes that Gu Shiyi's answer is precisely identical to that of her beloved En Shan from a millennium ago.
In a dream, Xue Ji recalls a grand wedding with En Shan, hinting at a past tragic event that caused her to lose both her lover and her memories, leaving her to endure a thousand years of lonely existence.
Episode 9 Recap
Gu Shiyi is preoccupied and distracted during training, earning him a reprimand from the Director. Lin Beila observes his state, subtly advising him not to be disturbed by others. Gu Shiyi, not understanding the deeper meaning, simply acknowledges the advice and continues training. Lin Beila later asks about his poor condition, to which Gu Shiyi attributes it to poor sleep.
She urges him to persist in his practice in preparation for his debut, so the whole world can see his face. Meanwhile, Jiang Huai is kidnapped after school by black-clad men and taken directly to a villa. The owner of the house, Min Furen, also known as Zhang Minzhi, reveals herself.
Tao De had previously informed Xue Ji that Min Furen has cancer and had arrived in Xue Ji's city three days prior, a fact Xue Ji dismisses as irrelevant to her. Min Furen explains her intention to contact Xue Ji, mentioning a good relationship with Xue Ji's father. She clarifies that she wants Jiang Huai to call Xue Ji, not just provide a phone number.
Min Furen then speaks to Xue Ji directly, demanding a meeting and threatening to expose Xue Ji's secrets to Jiang Huai if she refuses. Concerned for Jiang Huai's safety, Xue Ji agrees. Min Furen then releases Jiang Huai. Feeling uneasy, Jiang Huai decides to walk home instead of taking the secretary's ride. She encounters Xue Ji waiting at her doorstep.
Recalling her frightening experience, Jiang Huai expresses a desire to help Xue Ji, who is being threatened by Min Furen, and asks about their conflict. Xue Ji, wishing to conceal her decades-long acquaintance with Min Furen, makes excuses. Affectionately, Xue Ji touches Jiang Huai's head, promising to grant her a few wishes and jokingly calling herself Jiang Huai's "wish lamp"—a phrase Jiang Huai remembers her mother saying.
Later, Gu Shiyi, restless and unable to sleep due to his thoughts of Xue Ji, goes to her house. He tries to secretly observe her by jumping to look over the fence, but Xue Ji catches him. Embarrassed, he claims he was just exercising. Xue Ji is pleased to see him and invites him in for fruits. Inside, Gu Shiyi sees Chun Shan, who is casually watching television. Gu Shiyi grows jealous of Chun Shan's apparent closeness to Xue Ji.
When Chun Shan innocently mentions that he lives with Xue Ji, Gu Shiyi becomes even more furious and abruptly leaves. On his way home, Gu Shiyi is still upset about Chun Shan and Xue Ji. Suddenly, a car's headlights illuminate him, and a black car slowly passes by. He catches a glimpse of a cunning smile and a golden bracelet in the rearview mirror. This is not the first time he has been followed.
Disturbed, Gu Shiyi reports the tracking by a woman to the Director, who dismisses it as a "sasaeng fan" (obsessive fan) and returns to chatting with Lin Beila. Lin Beila, present during the call, shows an unnatural expression. She is later seen calmly swirling red wine in her glass, her golden bracelet clinking against it. Li Zhe visits Xue Ji, bringing snacks and informing her that Gu Shiyi is being followed.
Xue Ji ponders this, connecting it to Min Furen's earlier call. Li Zhe asks Xue Ji if she fears anything. She admits to fearing darkness, hunger, and most of all, losing people she cares about. Li Zhe confesses that his greatest fear is being alone, which is why he always has someone guarding outside when he sleeps, though he also states he is best when alone.
Later, driving home alone in the pouring rain, Li Zhe recalls a traumatic childhood memory: hiding and witnessing his biological mother being cornered by a strange woman and fatally stabbed in the heart with a sharp knife, leaving him with a lasting sense of insecurity. He remains outside his car in the rain, reluctant to go home. Meanwhile, Gu Shiyi awakens from a vivid nightmare, his hands seemingly stained with blood.
In the dream, he and Xue Ji are getting married. After the ceremony, as they sit by dim candlelight, he (in the role of En Shan, who had gently unveiled Xue Ji and tenderly embraced her moments before) fatally stabs Xue Ji in the heart with a knife. A trace of blood stains Xue Ji's delicate makeup.
Xue Ji is stunned but then smiles, while En Shan (Gu Shiyi in the dream) despairingly embraces her as she slowly dies in his arms. Gu Shiyi wakes up horrified, recalling every detail of the dream. The following afternoon, Chun Shan is idly playing with Jiang Huai's phone when he discovers a tracking application installed on it. Jiang Huai realizes she has been secretly tracked and immediately suspects A Ying.
She storms off to confront A Ying in a university classroom, with Chun Shan following out of concern that she might face trouble alone. Jiang Huai angrily confronts A Ying, throwing her phone onto the table. A Ying retaliates by mockingly reading aloud a love letter Jiang Huai had written to Senior Zheng Xian, publicly accusing Jiang Huai of seducing her boyfriend and calling her a "scum girl." Humiliated and speechless, Jiang Huai stands frozen as classmates point and whisper.
Suddenly, Chun Shan steps forward, wraps his arm tightly around Jiang Huai's shoulder, and declares, "Jiang Huai is my girlfriend." He then snatches the letter from A Ying, loudly claiming it was written for him, and warns A Ying not to steal again. A Ying, her face turning green with rage, is left speechless as Chun Shan leads Jiang Huai out of the classroom. Jiang Huai later tells Chun Shan that she had prepared all her arguments to win against A Ying, but Chun Shan stole her thunder.
Episode 10 Recap
Four decades prior, when she was thirty, Min Furen met Xue Ji and learned her identity. Min Furen pleaded for a chance at longevity, and Xue Ji, softening, agreed. However, unsure of the success and concerned about potential side effects, Min Furen decided to have another woman serve as an experimental subject. Xue Ji injected some of her blood into the woman, who soon developed red spots, experienced rapid breathing, and died before Xue Ji's eyes.
Now, years later, Min Furen, aged and haggard, arrived at Xue Ji's villa, seeking another opportunity for longevity to rectify her past missed chance, revealing she had cancer and little time left. Xue Ji, however, remained unchanged. Xue Ji refused Min Furen's desperate plea, reminding her of her past selfishness in sacrificing an innocent person without remorse, only caring for her own life. Min Furen, in despair, knelt and begged for the opportunity.
At this moment, Chun Shan returned home, supporting a heavily drunken Jiang Huai. Seeing Min Furen, Min Furen quickly composed herself. Jiang Huai, unconscious, fell into Xue Ji's arms. Chun Shan quickly carried Jiang Huai to her room, placed her on the bed, and covered her with a blanket. As he was about to leave, Jiang Huai grabbed his sleeve, repeatedly muttering, "Chun Shan, don't leave."
Chun Shan stopped, sat by the bed, and leaned over the flushed Jiang Huai, his gaze softening as he listened to her soft murmurs. The next morning, Jiang Huai stumbled out with a headache. Chun Shan was casually reading a magazine, making no mention of the previous night. They discussed Min Furen's suspicious background before Chun Shan reminded Jiang Huai she would be late for work.
Later, while at work, Jiang Huai received an urgent call from her mother, Jiang Mama. Meeting her at the beach, Jiang Mama anxiously explained that their company had been scammed, and their investments, including money Xue Ji had lent for 500,000, and their house had been stolen, leaving them heavily indebted. Jiang Mama urgently demanded Jiang Huai raise 1 million, insisting she would wait at home.
Distraught, Jiang Huai realized she couldn't shoulder more debt, especially given what she already owed Xue Ji. Min Furen, who had overheard the conversation, then approached Jiang Huai, offering a deal: 1 million in funds in exchange for a birthday wish Xue Ji had promised Jiang Huai. Helpless, Jiang Huai agreed. That night, she lay in bed, consumed by guilt and unease about exploiting Xue Ji's kindness for her own problems, unable to sleep.
The following morning, Xue Ji tried to wake Jiang Huai but found her pale, with purple lips, and a high fever. Xue Ji diligently cared for Jiang Huai with towels and hot water until she awoke. Weak, Jiang Huai mentioned the previous day's events and asked if she could transfer her birthday wish to fulfill Min Furen's desire. Xue Ji, understanding Jiang Huai was being exploited, immediately agreed to protect her.
Witnessing Xue Ji's genuine concern, Jiang Huai's unease and guilt faded, replaced by a warmth she had never felt before. Meanwhile, Li Zhe's SR company was in cooperation talks with Gu Shiyi's Yinhua company. Li Zhe's sole condition for the partnership was for Gu Shiyi to sign with SR and debut as a solo artist under their label. This demand disrupted Yinhua's original plans. Lin Beila suddenly intervened, rejecting the condition.
Li Zhe was taken aback by her sudden appearance, experiencing a sense of déjà vu. He later recognized Lin Beila as a woman he had seen killing someone as a child. He immediately ordered an investigation into her identity, believing she might hold the key to his unresolved secrets. Gu Shiyi and his team were troubled by the news. Lin Beila came to them for Gu Shiyi's opinion. Gu Shiyi refused to abandon his teammates for a solo career.
Lin Beila was relieved, reassured the team, and left the practice room satisfied. Xue Ji learned from Jiang Huai that it was Gu Shiyi's birthday. Excited, Xue Ji bought a cake and went to his company. Gu Shiyi smiled warmly at her arrival. Xue Ji suggested a birthday date at an amusement park, and Gu Shiyi happily agreed. At the park, Xue Ji wanted to ride the Ferris wheel.
Gu Shiyi, who suffered from acrophobia, initially refused, but Xue Ji went ahead. Gu Shiyi then gathered his courage and joined her on the Ferris wheel. As they ascended to the highest point, Xue Ji excitedly swayed the cabin, making Gu Shiyi clutch the handrails in fear. Xue Ji, feeling happy and realizing the world was more beautiful than she had imagined, playfully teased Gu Shiyi about his fear, believing he wouldn't dare to do anything. Suddenly, Gu Shiyi put his hand on Xue Ji's forehead and kissed her deeply.
Episode 11 Recap
Jiang Huai’s birthday party approaches, and Xue Ji helps her pick out an outfit, commenting that she looks good in anything. Jiang Huai mentions inviting Li Zhe and Gu Shiyi, and when Xue Ji asks about her familiarity with Li Zhe, Jiang Huai jokes about being "bought" by his Gucci bag. During their chat, Xue Ji asks about Jiang Huai’s relationship with Chun Shan, noting Jiang Huai’s unexpected hesitation.
Jiang Huai, though of similar age, admits she lacks Xue Ji’s inner strength, resolve, and maturity. Xue Ji, feeling uneasy, subtly asks Jiang Huai if she believes in the existence of immortal beings or vampires—flesh-and-blood people who can live for thousands of years and feel emotions. Jiang Huai dismisses the idea outright, causing Xue Ji to keep her thoughts to herself. Downstairs, Chun Shan’s voice is heard.
Jiang Huai goes down and sees Gu Shiyi and Li Zhe make eye contact, while Chun Shan looks at Jiang Huai expectantly. Jiang Huai quickly excuses herself to the restroom. The birthday party begins with Li Zhe, Gu Shiyi, Chun Shan, and other girls celebrating. To liven the mood, Chun Shan suggests a trivia game. As everyone struggles with history questions, Xue Ji effortlessly answers each one, impressing everyone with her intellect.
Only Xue Ji knows that her knowledge comes from having lived for thousands of years. Meanwhile, Min Furen, after making many unanswered calls to Xue Ji, collapses. Her secretary discovers her unconscious and rushes her to the hospital. After resuscitation, Min Furen is stable but weak. Tormented by her illness and desperate for a permanent solution, she can no longer wait for Xue Ji to contact her.
She urgently instructs her secretary to call Xue Ji immediately to finalize her wish. Playing happily, Xue Ji receives the call, her expression instantly freezing. Regaining composure, she tells everyone she has to leave. Although Jiang Huai wants Xue Ji to stay and continue celebrating her birthday, Xue Ji insists and takes Jiang Huai with her to the hospital to witness Min Furen’s outcome. At Min Furen’s hospital room, Min Furen instructs her secretary not to let anyone else enter.
Faced with Min Furen’s obsession, Xue Ji reminds her that her body must not be autopsied after death. Min Furen expresses her desire to receive Xue Ji’s blood. Xue Ji then enters the room and emerges with half a tube of her own blood. She confirms Min Furen’s wish and rolls up her sleeve for the injection. Before pushing the needle, Xue Ji warns Min Furen not to track people around her.
Min Furen vehemently denies tracking anyone other than Jiang Huai. Just then, Xue Ji spots a camera hidden behind the door and rushes out to pursue the stalker, but the corridor is empty. She returns to the room. Jiang Huai, completely bewildered and frightened by the scene, doesn't understand what they are doing. When she sees Xue Ji prepare to inject Min Furen, Jiang Huai attempts to intervene, but it’s too late. Min Furen ultimately achieved her dying wish.
She gives a cold laugh, saying she knew Xue Ji wasn't genuinely helping her and had always considered Xue Ji to be a cold-blooded person. A hot flush suddenly spreads through Min Furen’s body, and red spots appear all over, just as they did years ago on a previous experiment subject. After a painful struggle, Min Furen’s eyes widen as the faint waves on the medical monitor flatten into a still line.
Min Furen paid the ultimate price for her greedy desire. While doctors are in disarray, Xue Ji, with no time to dwell on Min Furen’s death, pulls the distraught Jiang Huai—who had witnessed everything—out of the room. Later by the riverside, the events replay repeatedly in Jiang Huai’s mind. She blames herself for Min Furen’s death, believing it was due to her "stupid deal," and despite Xue Ji’s attempts to comfort her, Jiang Huai cannot escape her guilt.
Remembering her conversation with Min Furen, Jiang Huai questions Xue Ji’s true identity. Xue Ji finds herself unable to explain. With such a tragedy, Jiang Huai is no longer in the mood to celebrate her birthday, and Xue Ji reluctantly leaves her to return home alone. In her car, Xue Ji calls Tao De, instructing him to review the hospital’s surveillance footage to identify who was secretly tracking her.
It is revealed that the person taking the photos was Lin Beila, who is now smugly looking at the stolen images. Lin Beila calls Mr. Wu, Min Furen’s son, who initially says he’s busy. Lin Beila informs him she has something related to Min Furen to send him, and she sends him the photos of Xue Ji injecting Min Furen.
Mr. Wu, upon seeing the photos, believes Xue Ji maliciously caused his mother’s death and, filled with hatred, vows to deal with Xue Ji. Xue Ji sits alone on a rooftop, drinking. A rare melancholic expression appears on her face as the wind brushes through her hair. Gu Shiyi joins her, quietly keeping her company, and asks her the reason for her sorrow.
Xue Ji calmly speaks of Min Furen’s death, and Gu Shiyi is unsurprised, having already suspected Xue Ji’s true identity from past events. Understanding his implication, Xue Ji openly admits her identity. Xue Ji smiles faintly, saying people should die gracefully when it's their time. She reflects that living for a thousand years has also meant suffering for a thousand years. Over this vast expanse of time, she has experienced countless encounters, knowings, births, and deaths.
She feels that "my existence will never be needed by anyone," and with a pang of sadness, she empties her drink. " But I will," Gu Shiyi declares, pulling Xue Ji to her feet and looking at her with unwavering determination, confessing that he cares for her.
Episode 12 Recap
Gu Shiyi confessed his feelings to Xue Ji, who was moved to tears by his unwavering gaze. Their relationship quickly deepened, and they enjoyed a variety of activities together, including cooking, shopping, dining, playing games, and spending joyful times at an amusement park. During a visit to the amusement park, fans recognized Gu Shiyi and clamored for photos.
Xue Ji, not wanting to share Gu Shiyi but also mindful of his career, initially hid behind him and then quietly tried to slip away. Gu Shiyi, however, broke free from the fans and rushed to firmly hold Xue Ji’s hand, pulling her back to his side. Gu Shiyi’s impressive performance soon caught the eye of advertisers, leading to a poster photoshoot. Xue Ji visited the set, secretly watching Gu Shiyi from within the crowd of fans.
During this time, Lin Beila was observed silently watching Xue Ji from behind a door. Alerted, Xue Ji turned around and saw Lin Beila quickly fleeing. Xue Ji found Lin Beila’s face strangely familiar and wondered how someone could resemble her so closely. After the shoot, Xue Ji discreetly had water distributed to the staff, but Gu Shiyi publicly confirmed their romantic relationship, eliciting a shy smile from Xue Ji.
Online photos and rumors about Gu Shiyi and Xue Ji at the amusement park soon surfaced. Gu Shiyi’s manager was furious, reprimanding him for having scandals even before his official debut and warning him not to jeopardize his future. Lin Beila, learning of the news, displayed a subtle, almost imperceptible smile. She offered Gu Shiyi what seemed like comfort and support for his relationship, but then whispered a chilling warning: "Love well during this time.
You won't have much time left later." Gu Shiyi was unnerved, sensing a deeper, ominous meaning behind her words. Meanwhile, Jiang Huai, still unsettled by Xue Ji’s identity after fleeing their earlier encounter, returned home. She recalled her mother mentioning that if Xue Ji wasn't so youthful, she would have believed her to be Shan Ai. She also remembered Xue Ji herself inquiring about the existence of immortal beings.
Jiang Huai found an old photo of her mother with her aunt Shan Ai and noticed Xue Ji's deliberately evasive gaze in the picture. Turning the photo over, she discovered a message written by Shan Ai. Knowing that handwriting remains consistent, Jiang Huai then retrieved Xue Ji’s diary. A comparison confirmed that the handwriting in Shan Ai’s note and Xue Ji's diary were astonishingly identical. Jiang Huai was stunned, connecting this with Xue Ji’s words on her birthday.
When Xue Ji returned to the villa, she found Jiang Huai. Terrified by her discovery, Jiang Huai dropped her belongings and fled, leaving Xue Ji alone and saddened by the repeated experience of loved ones fearing her. Still seeking definitive proof, Jiang Huai questioned her mother further about Shan Ai. Her mother recounted their student days, describing Shan Ai as a close friend who, despite their bond, remained somewhat enigmatic and consistently avoided being photographed.
This sparked a memory for Jiang Huai, who immediately asked her mother for old videotapes. Watching footage of Shan Ai quickly covering her face after being secretly filmed, Jiang Huai became absolutely certain: Shan Ai was Xue Ji. Jiang Huai immediately packed and rushed back to Xue Ji's home. Confronted with the photographic evidence, Xue Ji could no longer conceal her identity and tearfully confessed.
She explained that she had hidden the truth because she feared Jiang Huai would be scared, estrange herself, and view her as a "thousand-year-old monster," thus jeopardizing their cherished friendship. Jiang Huai, while initially frightened, gradually embraced understanding and acceptance. She reasoned that despite Xue Ji’s immortality, she was fundamentally kind, ate, slept, and felt emotions just like anyone else, and most importantly, she was her friend.
Witnessing Jiang Huai's forgiveness, Xue Ji was deeply moved and shed tears of gratitude. Separately, Li Zhe’s assistant investigated Lin Beila, finding no evidence of plastic surgery. Furthermore, a twenty-year-old identification photo showed a striking resemblance to Lin Beila, whose appearance had remained unchanged over two decades. Li Zhe, recalling Xue Ji’s unique situation, grew suspicious of Lin Beila’s true identity. He visited Xue Ji, asking if other immortal individuals like her existed in the world.
Xue Ji shook her head, stating she didn't know if anyone else had lived for a millennium, but warned that such individuals could be incredibly dangerous if they exploited their abilities for malicious purposes. Li Zhe pondered this information. Xue Ji noticed Li Zhe holding documents related to Lin Beila, mistook them for artist files, and attempted to take them, but Li Zhe deftly evaded her, intending to keep Xue Ji uninvolved until his investigation was complete.
Later, Mr. Wu contacted Lin Beila again, demanding to know her intentions. Unfazed, Lin Beila was seen playing billiards while planning her cooperation with Mr. Wu. During their conversation, she also revealed to Mr. Wu that Madam Min had been murdered. Just then, Li Zhe arrived at Lin Beila's location to confront her.
Episode 13 Recap
Li Zhe met with Lin Beila, secretly recording their conversation on his phone. Lin Beila believed he was there to discuss Gu Shiyi going solo or joining SR company, and she maintained her opposition or stated that it was Gu Shiyi's personal choice not to join. Li Zhe praised Lin Beila for training Gu Shiyi exceptionally well before abruptly shifting the conversation to ask her age. Lin Beila, initially surprised, answered that she was twenty-four.
Li Zhe's suspicions were confirmed, and after their meeting, he instructed his secretary to specifically investigate Lin Beila's activities in the year 2000. Li Zhe believes Lin Beila is connected to the mysterious murder of his mother sixteen years ago. He later visited an old quadrangle to meet with the former police officer who handled his mother's case.
The officer recounted that only a syringe needle mark was found on Li Zhe's mother's body, and police could not find any drug that matched the cause of death. Furthermore, only Li Zhe's and the nanny's fingerprints were found inside the villa, but a suspicious fingerprint on the doorknob belonged to someone who had died ten years prior. These inexplicable circumstances led to the investigation being shelved, making it a cold case.
Li Zhe, now grown, is determined to find his mother's killer and strongly believes that Lin Beila, a director at Yinhua, holds a crucial clue to this long-unsolved mystery. Meanwhile, Chun Shan, having been unemployed, decided to return to work, appearing in a suit, a stark contrast to his usual casual style. After discussing job details, he left the company and accidentally bumped into his ex-girlfriend, Lisa.
She happily called out to him, but Chun Shan showed no surprise, only mockery and disdain. Lisa had, in fact, recommended him for this job, surprised he accepted. As they walked together, she cautiously brought up their past, admitting she abandoned him during a vulnerable time when his mother suffered from depression, dealing a fatal blow to his heart. Seeing him "returned to full strength," Lisa hoped to reconcile.
However, Chun Shan coldly rejected her, stating he already had someone he liked and asking her to "please take care" in their future professional relationship as colleagues, nothing more. Early one morning, Gu Shiyi visited Xue Ji, sharing his new single with her as she was the first person he thought of. Xue Ji, initially caught off guard while wearing a face mask, quickly rushed back to her room to apply makeup before greeting him.
She loved the song and planned to play it on repeat at home. Gu Shiyi, observing her happiness, found himself curious about Xue Ji's "thousand-year past" and wondered why she no longer seemed to obsess over finding answers to her dreams, a pursuit she was once very dedicated to. Outside, Lin Beila, who had been tracking them, sat in her car, muttering that despite Xue Ji living for many years, she would still ultimately die by the same man's hand.
As Xue Ji walked Gu Shiyi out, he spotted Lin Beila's car, recognizing it as one that had been tracking him. Gu Shiyi cautiously approached the vehicle, warning Xue Ji to stay still. Realizing she had been discovered, Lin Beila quickly reversed her car, then, with ruthless intent, accelerated and drove directly towards Gu Shiyi. Seeing Gu Shiyi in danger, Xue Ji courageously rushed forward, pushing him aside.
Both fell to the roadside; Gu Shiyi was unharmed, but Xue Ji injured her leg. Li Zhe, arriving by car and witnessing the incident, rushed forward, suggesting that if he had been there, Xue Ji would not have been hurt. However, Gu Shiyi blocked him, then gently carried the injured Xue Ji home, under Li Zhe's gaze. At home, Gu Shiyi was heartbroken by Xue Ji's injury, but she reassured him it was minor.
Feeling responsible for involving her in danger, Gu Shiyi made her promise never to get sick or injured again. Xue Ji, deeply moved, nodded repeatedly and hugged him tightly, and they embraced and fell asleep. Gu Shiyi was then plagued by a nightmare: he saw himself in a wedding chamber, plunging a dagger into Xue Ji's heart, amidst images of red and death.
He awoke in a cold sweat, only to discover that Xue Ji's leg injury had completely healed without a trace. This inexplicable healing, combined with Xue Ji's past remark about people dying when it's their time, made Gu Shiyi increasingly suspicious. His growing unease prompted him to reread some books he had been researching, where he found the story of "Liu Xue Ji."
The text described how in the third year of Jiading during the Southern Song Dynasty, amidst war and chaos, an upright official named Liu Zhi and his daughter, Xue Ji, were part of a respected family. After Xue Ji was betrothed, Liu Zhi was framed. While traveling to the capital with his family to appeal to the emperor, they were ambushed and killed, their bodies left in the wilderness.
That night, amidst thunder and lightning, a meteor fell, causing a blinding light. Xue Ji and her relatives, Liu Yu and Han, miraculously revived and vanished. Rumors spread that Xue Ji's blood could cure all diseases and extend life, but "Liu Xue Ji" was never seen again. Reading this account, Gu Shiyi felt a profound sense of unease as he looked at the sleeping Xue Ji.
Later, Xue Ji confided in Chun Shan that Jiang Huai now knew her true identity. Chun Shan, curious, asked about Jiang Huai's reaction, to which Xue Ji revealed that Jiang Huai was initially very resistant but had since accepted it. Chun Shan then asked Xue Ji if Gu Shiyi was aware of her true condition or identity.
Episode 14 Recap
Tao De's investigation into the hospital tracking proved fruitless, as all surveillance footage had been expertly destroyed, making identification impossible. Xue Ji, after initially giving up, later told Tao De to continue investigating the matter, which involved someone secretly photographing her. Meanwhile, Lin Beila, having evaded surveillance herself, orchestrated Xue Ji's arrest by having her subordinates secretly send surveillance footage to the police. Min Furen's son, Wu, had already reported to the police, implicating Xue Ji in the case.
Based on clues provided by Xue Ji, Gu Shiyi initiated his own investigation at a local library, where he discovered a book containing information about Liu Xue Ji. He learned that she possessed an immortal body and was immune to poisons. The book detailed her past as the daughter of a wealthy official, who had once fled to an impoverished village.
The villagers, suffering from severe illness and destitution, heard legends that her blood could cure all diseases and grant immortality. Figures like the scholar Lain Shan even considered obtaining Xue Ji's blood, believing it might heal the ailments of their community. The text recounted an instance where villagers, armed with clubs and mallets, waited outside her home while she was preparing for a wedding, intending to capture her for her blood.
Gu Shiyi realized this explained how Xue Ji's past wounds had healed overnight. While Xue Ji and Chun Shan were at home, police from the Haitianshi Public Security Bureau arrived to arrest Xue Ji on charges of murdering Min Furen. Despite Chun Shan's futile attempts to intervene, Xue Ji was handcuffed and taken away. Outside, reporters, already alerted, swarmed to capture news of the prominent Li family.
Gu Shiyi witnessed Xue Ji's arrest and rushed forward to protect her, but Lin Beila, who had been tracking him nearby, pulled him back. In Lin Beila's car, Gu Shiyi grew increasingly suspicious. He questioned why she was conveniently present outside Xue Ji's house and how she knew it was a dangerous place for Xue Ji despite claiming no acquaintance. Lin Beila offered an awkward excuse.
Gu Shiyi's attention was drawn to a shining bracelet on her wrist, which he recognized as one worn by someone who had previously tracked him. Jiang Huai returned home to chaos, learning of Xue Ji's arrest. She anxiously wished to testify at the police station, but Chun Shan dissuaded her, emphasizing the critical need to keep Xue Ji's true identity secret. Li Zhe also arrived home, comforting Chun Shan and discussing options.
He instructed Tao De to continue investigating Xue Ji's assigned tasks and confirmed he had already arranged for a lawyer for Xue Ji. The lawyer, dispatched by Li Zhe, visited Xue Ji in prison. Faced with a barrage of questions about Min Furen, Xue Ji remained silent, unable to explain how her life-extending blood was considered the murder weapon, or provide evidence that Min Furen had voluntarily received it.
The lawyer, lacking crucial information, reported back to Li Zhe, explaining that if Xue Ji did not speak, she risked imprisonment, and that photographs were the most damaging evidence against her. He mentioned that while a solution existed, it would be difficult to achieve. Convinced he had to seek help from an influential acquaintance, Li Zhe met with his old friend, Wu, Min Furen's son, to plead for Xue Ji's release.
Wu vehemently refused, stating he could not let his mother's killer go free, despite Li Zhe expressing understanding for his pain. Li Zhe explained that Min Furen was already dying, questioning why anyone would bother to risk assisting her death if they truly wished her harm. Wu was stunned, sensing something amiss. Li Zhe then asked Wu how he was so certain Min Furen had been murdered, when everyone else initially believed it was a natural death.
Wu revealed that an unknown woman had sent him a photograph. Li Zhe played a recording from his phone, and Wu confirmed that the voice was identical to that of the woman who had informed him about Min Furen. Li Zhe realized that Lin Beila was orchestrating everything. Collaborating, Li Zhe and Wu then drafted a spoken statement to protect Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi visited Xue Ji in prison.
He was heartbroken to see her, her once radiant complexion now pale and haggard, her face streaked with unshed tears, unkempt from days without washing. He spoke to her through the intercom, calling her "Liu Xue Ji," revealing he knew her true identity. Xue Ji was startled, then asked if he feared her. Gu Shiyi responded that he feared her being harmed. Placing his hand on the glass, he looked at her, silently acknowledging the pain of her solitary millennium.
Xue Ji, watching him, was overcome with sorrow, wishing she weren't immortal so she could grow old alongside the person she loved most. Based on the statement, Xue Ji was acquitted and released. Gu Shiyi watched her exit the prison from a distance, having been warned by Li Zhe not to reveal himself, as it would not be beneficial for either of them.
As Xue Ji slowly emerged, she was protected by Chun Shan and Li Zhe and quickly entered a waiting car. Li Zhe also gave Gu Shiyi a serious warning: Yin Hua Entertainment is very dangerous, and he must be careful.
Episode 15 Recap
A thousand years ago, Liu Yuhan, Master Liu's illegitimate daughter, was redeemed from a brothel and brought into the Liu family. Initially shy and fearful, Liu Yuhan was warmly embraced by Xue Ji, who affectionately called her "sister" and immediately arranged for servants to prepare a hot bath and soup for her. They quickly formed a close sisterly bond, though Liu Yuhan overheard passersby discussing her origins as a courtesan redeemed from a brothel.
One evening, while Liu Yuhan was walking in a secluded area, a group of hooligans, aware of her origins, accosted her and attempted to molest her. Lai Enshan, the county magistrate's son, intervened, drawing his sword and saving her before leaving with a brief warning for her to depart. Liu Yuhan was deeply affected by his heroism and appearance. Xue Ji later teased Liu Yuhan about her "lover," though Liu Yuhan insisted she had only met him once.
Days later, the Liu family welcomed a distinguished guest. Liu Yuhan, peeking through a window, recognized him as her rescuer. To her dismay, she learned from servants that the guest was Lai Enshan, who had come to propose marriage to Xue Ji. Liu Yuhan's joy instantly turned to despair. She knelt before Master Liu, pleading with him to arrange her marriage to Lai Enshan.
However, Master Liu refused, citing her background from the brothel as an unsuitable status for such a match. Liu Yuhan felt deeply discriminated against compared to Xue Ji and, her already insecure heart consumed by the social disparity that prevented her from being with Lai Enshan, hatred began to quietly fester within her.
That night, Liu Yuhan secretly penned a letter accusing both Master Liu and the county magistrate of abusing their power and embezzling funds, thinking, "If I can't have it, we all die together." This Liu Yuhan, whose love had curdled into malice, is revealed to be the present-day Lin Beila, the director of Yinhua Group. In the present, Xue Ji is deeply contemplative about recent events and her own case, vowing to find those responsible.
She reflects on how smoothly things have gone since her return from the isolated island, fearing that what comes easily may be lost easily. She asks Tao De to investigate her stalkers and send her any findings, receiving blurry photos that she finds familiar but cannot recognize. Xue Ji also expresses concern to Gu Shiyi about someone tracking them, and to Chun Shan, asking him to pick up Jiang Huai daily.
She receives an invitation to Gu Shiyi's new song release concert, noting her first-row seat while Jiang Huai and Chun Shan are in the third row, but initially dismisses it. Gu Shiyi secretly meets Xue Ji, showing his deep affection and comforting her about her worries, promising he will never leave her or let her get hurt again. He also takes her swimming.
Lin Beila (also referred to as Miss Lin) practices her shooting skills, consistently hitting the target, and harbors deep resentment towards Xue Ji, vowing to destroy everything Xue Ji loves, one by one. As the director of Yinhua Group, she instructs her secretary to invite numerous media outlets to Gu Shiyi's concert, planning a "big show" and arranging for photos to be released publicly at an opportune moment.
Meanwhile, Li Zhe's assistant discovers that fingerprints left on Li Zhe's door handle from over a decade, specifically sixteen years ago, match those of Lin Beila. However, the individual initially investigated by the police for the incident 16 years ago has since disappeared, and Lin Beila later re-emerged with a new identity, making it difficult to directly accuse her as the killer based solely on these fingerprints. Li Zhe instructs his assistant to uncover more details about Lin Beila's background.
He contacts an elder, who agrees to cooperate in the investigation but advises not to act rashly. Li Zhe briefly interacts with Lin Beila, informing her he won't attend the concert. At the scheduled concert, Xue Ji attends dressed discreetly. Gu Shiyi, upon taking the stage, searches for her and nods with relief when he sees her in the first row. Behind the scenes, Lin Beila dismisses the site manager and takes control of the projection room.
During the concert, Li Zhe, who is driving, receives a critical call from his assistant revealing a new development: Lin Beila and Xue Ji are blood relatives. This shocking information causes Li Zhe to brake his car abruptly, then turn back, desperately trying to reach Xue Ji by phone amidst the concert's noise before rushing to the venue himself.
Episode 16 Recap
Over a thousand years ago, Xue Ji awoke in a desolate wilderness, revived without pain or wounds. Her parents, Mr. Liu and his wife, lay dead and bloody beside her. Nearby, her sister Yu Han was severely injured, having been stabbed multiple times and with a long knife cut on her face. Knowing Yu Han was hungry, Xue Ji bit her finger and fed her own blood to save her, then left to find water.
When she returned, Yu Han was fully recovered; her facial injury and all other wounds were gone. Yu Han then coldly asked Xue Ji why she saved her. Following her awakening, En Shan (also referred to as Lai Enshan) brought Xue Ji to a remote village. Villagers, believing Xue Ji's blood could cure diseases and seeing her as a lifesaver, wanted to catch her to drink her blood and eat her flesh.
To protect Xue Ji, En Shan pretended to cooperate, agreeing to kill her on their wedding night to create a false impression of her death, thus saving her from the villagers' slaughter. Xue Ji later realized that Gu Shiyi was this same En Shan. In the present day, during Gu Shiyi's press conference, after his emotional performance, Lin Beila, who was controlling the lights, deliberately targeted Xue Ji in the front row with a spotlight, exposing her to the media.
Reporters immediately swarmed to interview and photograph Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi rushed down from the stage, grabbed Xue Ji, and fled the venue. Li Zhe arrived at the scene and witnessed this, attempting to intervene or also take Xue Ji, but Gu Shiyi successfully escaped with her, leaving behind a worried Li Zhe and a confused audience. Gu Shiyi took Xue Ji to a tool room. There, he showed her a photo of a serene-smiling woman.
Xue Ji was shocked, recognizing the woman as her sister, Yu Han, and realizing, "After all these years, you still came." Gu Shiyi informed Xue Ji that Lin Beila was the chairman of his company. Xue Ji expressed concern that after more than a thousand years, Yu Han (now Lin Beila) still sought opportunities to harm her. Later, as Xue Ji and Gu Shiyi were leaving the company, Xue Ji accidentally cut her arm.
Gu Shiyi, visibly concerned, picked her up and carried her out of the company. Back home, Li Zhe was waiting for Xue Ji. He informed her that Lin Beila, seeking revenge, had been systematically murdering happy families and helpless orphans for pleasure. Li Zhe revealed that his own family was among those brutally killed by Lin Beila. Xue Ji, having already told Li Zhe that Lin Beila was her sister Yu Han, realized the extent of Lin Beila's evil.
She recalled her past mistake of saving a "demon," and felt immense guilt, realizing her attempt to save her sister long ago had inadvertently led to the harm of many innocent people. Xue Ji decided she must confront Lin Beila, stating that only she could resolve the situation. At the company, the president scolded Gu Shiyi for the scandal and for ruining the press conference.
Lin Beila, the company's chairman, instead of being angry, comforted Gu Shiyi and stated that while she doesn't interfere with artists' private lives, she wanted to meet Gu Shiyi's girlfriend. She then planned a dinner party, specifically instructing Gu Shiyi to invite Xue Ji. Gu Shiyi, pretending ignorance, agreed. Upon hearing the news, Xue Ji happily agreed, believing it was time to properly talk with her long-lost sister. While talking with Gu Shiyi, he accidentally touched Xue Ji's still-healing wound.
Xue Ji winced and recoiled her hand. Gu Shiyi, concerned, tried to examine it, but Xue Ji stopped him, jokingly saying she had tricked him. Later, in the bathroom, Xue Ji removed the bandage, puzzled as to why the wound, sustained days earlier, had still not healed. Xue Ji, elegantly dressed, arrived at the dinner party with Li Zhe, Jiang Huai, and Chun Shan. She saw Lin Beila warmly greeting guests.
Xue Ji prepared to approach Lin Beila, but stopped Li Zhe from following, not wanting to involve innocent people in their conflict. Meanwhile, Chun Shan's ex-girlfriend, Lisa, was also present. She excitedly greeted Chun Shan, who responded with cold indifference. Lisa then pointedly introduced herself to Jiang Huai, hinting at her past relationship with Chun Shan. Sensing the awkward situation, Jiang Huai made an excuse to leave, and Chun Shan followed her, leaving Lisa to watch them, losing her smile.
Lin Beila then noticed Xue Ji and calmly approached her. Xue Ji, not in the mood for pleasantries, directly asked about Lin Beila's purpose for the evening. Lin Beila, without immediately answering, walked onto the stage, quieted the audience, and publicly introduced Xue Ji as her sister and as Gu Shiyi's girlfriend. Xue Ji instantly became the renewed target of public attention. After Lin Beila descended, Xue Ji confronted her, demanding to know her true intentions.
Lin Beila, smiling, whispered to Xue Ji, "Which news will come out first: Gu Shiyi's death, or Gu Shiyi's new girlfriend being revealed?" Xue Ji immediately realized Gu Shiyi was absent from the event and his safety was at risk. She tried to hide her mounting anxiety and urgency, demanding to know Gu Shiyi's whereabouts and requesting to speak with Lin Beila alone in a quiet place.
Lin Beila simply smiled, then pulled out a handgun and fired a shot, causing the guests to panic and flee. With many people gone, Xue Ji and Lin Beila began their confrontation.
Episode 17 Recap
At a grand banquet, Xue Ji asked Lin Beila to talk in a quiet place, but Lin Beila responded by opening fire, shooting and killing an innocent person. Guests fled in terror. Li Zhe attempted to lead Xue Ji to safety, but she signaled him to escort others first. Xue Ji approached the fallen victim, lamenting another lost life.
Lin Beila, maniacal, smiled and expressed her anticipation for a thousand-year wish to come true, wanting Xue Ji to experience an irreparable situation, just as Lin Beila herself was once powerless due to her humble origins a thousand years ago. Xue Ji deeply regretted saving Lin Beila, whom Lin Beila believed was no better than herself, despite her own unscrupulous methods.
Lin Beila mocked Xue Ji's foolish kindness, pointing out that Xue Ji's blood only saves blood relatives, making her past act of saving Min Furen a mistake. Xue Ji, concerned only for Gu Shiyi, asked for his whereabouts, and Lin Beila told her he was on his way, adding that her past thousand years had been boring and this was her chance to kill Xue Ji.
Lin Beila then kicked Xue Ji down and handcuffed her to a nearby chair, hiding in anticipation of Gu Shiyi's arrival. Gu Shiyi arrived with police to rescue Xue Ji, but Lin Beila emerged, pointing a gun at his head. Lin Beila had calculated everything, wanting Xue Ji to witness her beloved's death at the hands of the "devil" she saved.
Gu Shiyi silently seized the gun from a complacent Lin Beila and pointed it at her heart, threatening her to release Xue Ji. Unfazed, Lin Beila grabbed Gu Shiyi's hand, pressed the gun to her own chest, and challenged him to kill her, asserting her immortality and his mortality, believing Gu Shiyi wouldn't dare. Suddenly, Lin Beila injected a substance into Gu Shiyi's back. Li Zhe arrived with police.
Xue Ji, desperate, embraced Gu Shiyi, crying as Lin Beila's blood, seemingly from the injection, entered his body. Lin Beila was controlled by police, watching gleefully. However, Gu Shiyi was unharmed. Lin Beila screamed in disbelief, realizing she had become a normal person. Xue Ji laughed, revealing that her own blood had lost its supernatural effect, and that both she and Lin Beila were now ordinary humans. Gu Shiyi then embraced Xue Ji.
Lin Beila, now a normal person, was taken to prison. It was late when Gu Shiyi took Xue Ji home, where Jiang Huai and Chun Shan were anxiously waiting. Relieved to see them safe, they went to bed. Inside, Xue Ji brought iodine for Gu Shiyi's injury and asked about his wounds. Gu Shiyi feigned pain in his right shoulder, but Xue Ji exposed his act by pointing out his injury was to the left shoulder. He then laughed sheepishly.
Gu Shiyi realized he had no change of clothes and stayed the night. Xue Ji lent him her pink pajamas, which he put on, looking like a shy girl. Xue Ji laughed at his appearance, and they happily play-fought. They lay down, and Xue Ji felt content, believing she could now be with her beloved forever without death or separation. Gu Shiyi slept in the living room. Later that night, Xue Ji couldn't sleep.
She quietly went to Gu Shiyi's sleeping place, covered him with a blanket, and was caught by his hand. He asked her not to leave and to stay with him. Xue Ji happily lay down beside him, and they spent the night together. The next morning, Xue Ji woke up first, laughing happily, noticing her still unhealed wound. Her laughter woke Gu Shiyi, who was startled to find her next to him and asked why she was in his room.
Xue Ji showed him a video she had recorded of him speaking in his sleep, revealing his feelings and asking her to stay. Gu Shiyi tried to snatch the phone to delete it but failed. Xue Ji proudly declared she would keep the video forever, sighing that such days were good. In the dining room, Chun Shan was eating breakfast. Jiang Huai looked uneasy, remembering Chun Shan's interactions with Lisa.
She subtly probed Chun Shan about his ex-girlfriend's beauty and charm. Chun Shan smiled at Jiang Huai's jealousy and told her, "She is not as good as you." As Jiang Huai tried to argue, Chun Shan leaned in, wiped breadcrumbs from her cheek, and told her, "You're cute when you're angry." Jiang Huai was flustered but felt her lingering questions had finally received a satisfactory answer. In the visiting room, Li Zhe visited Lin Beila, who was now in prison.
Lin Beila acted as if nothing had happened, maintaining her arrogance, and told Li Zhe she was bored. Li Zhe asked why she had killed his parents. Lin Beila casually admitted to the murders, stating that the Li family had a lot of money and that having lived over a thousand years, she only measured happiness by money and was also driven by boredom.
Li Zhe was enraged, believing this murderous demon was irredeemable and should have been imprisoned long ago. Lin Beila countered that if he lived a thousand years, he would understand her feelings. Realizing there was no point in trying to elicit remorse or lecture her, Li Zhe slammed down the phone and left the prison.
Episode 18 Recap
After the incident involving Lin Beila, the company suffered heavy losses. The President expressed deep concern to the artists, hoping they wouldn't be affected, and temporarily shelved plans to stabilize the team's emotions. Afterward, the President spoke with Gu Shiyi privately to understand his perspective. Gu Shiyi, realizing he only wished to cherish his time with Xue Ji, decided to terminate his contract, a decision the President supported, understanding that life choices must be personal to avoid regret.
Meanwhile, Li Zhe continued to care for Xue Ji, bringing her favorite foods. However, Xue Ji found it increasingly difficult to accept his attentions. She gently rejected his kindness, explaining that while she acknowledged his feelings, her heart had belonged solely to Gu Shiyi for a thousand years and could not easily fall for another. Disappointed, Li Zhe asked if he was denied even the right to care for her.
Leaving Xue Ji's home, Li Zhe encountered Gu Shiyi, who was arriving with a cake. The two rivals exchanged words; Li Zhe revealed he had long known Xue Ji's background, to which Gu Shiyi retorted that he had known Xue Ji for an even longer time. Gu Shiyi entered Xue Ji's home and saw the table laden with snacks and cakes brought by Li Zhe, which made him unhappy.
Before Xue Ji could explain, Gu Shiyi threw Li Zhe's cake to the floor. He then declared he would eat his own cake alone, but when Xue Ji playfully teased him about not finishing it, he immediately fed her a piece. Xue Ji then casually mentioned her upcoming trip to France with Li Zhe. Hearing this, Gu Shiyi snatched back his cake and sternly warned her not to fall for someone else, only calming down after Xue Ji's reassurances.
Xue Ji and Li Zhe traveled to France. While there, Xue Ji decided to donate all the remaining Li family assets. Li Zhe was very surprised by this move, believing Qin Si would be furious, but Xue Ji simply smiled, stating that she already possessed many things and that despite having many possessions, one only has one stomach.
They later walked in a park, where Xue Ji, upon seeing a beautiful fountain, excitedly asked Li Zhe to take a photo of her. Li Zhe was both happy and sad, realizing that Xue Ji, who had not taken photos for years, had made such a significant change for Gu Shiyi, yet he himself could not find a place in her heart despite his long efforts. He asked Xue Ji if he wasn't handsome enough for her to like him.
Xue Ji responded that he was every girl's type, but she already had Gu Shiyi. She then reiterated to Li Zhe that no matter how many people liked her, her heart was unique. Li Zhe, understanding, touched her head and smiled, deciding to let go. They later visited a church and listened to prayers.
Although Lin Beila had been apprehended, Xue Ji felt no joy, reflecting that if Lin Beila were sentenced to death, she would have no true relatives left in the world. Despite everything, Xue Ji held no regrets. Xue Ji called Gu Shiyi to inform him she would return home the next day. Gu Shiyi told her he had other commitments and couldn't pick her up, which left Xue Ji a little disappointed, though she understood.
Li Zhe suggested Xue Ji explain the donation matter to Qin Si, but Xue Ji felt further explanation would only complicate things and opted to return directly. At the airport, Xue Ji was overjoyed to find Gu Shiyi waiting for her, having secretly altered his schedule to surprise her. She excitedly rushed forward and embraced him tightly. Upon returning home, Xue Ji distributed gifts from France to her friends.
Jiang Huai received many treats, and Chun Shan received a set of limited-edition books. Gu Shiyi, however, initially received nothing and playfully asked why he had no gift. Xue Ji teased him, saying his "love" was enough, making Gu Shiyi a bit unhappy. Later that evening, Xue Ji secretly took out a pre-prepared gift box and placed a pink tie around his neck, playfully tying it and pulling him close to her.
As Gu Shiyi leaned in to kiss her cheek, Xue Ji suddenly paused. Sensing something amiss, she walked to the door and opened it, revealing Jiang Huai and Chun Shan tumbling in, having been caught eavesdropping. The two friends awkwardly laughed, made up excuses, and quickly fled, leaving Xue Ji to shake her head in amusement. The following day, Xue Ji contacted Tao De.
Since returning to a normal life, she had begun to feel unwell, experiencing symptoms of vomiting, and asked Tao De to arrange a doctor for a thorough health check as soon as possible.
Episode 19 Recap
Chun Shan finished playing basketball. Lisa approached him, bringing a bottle of water. She expressed that she had been looking for him for a long time and deeply regretted her past absence, owing him an apology. Chun Shan comforted her, saying he had never blamed her, that his past life was happy, and he didn't intend to intentionally forget it, encouraging her to look forward. Lisa then asked if reconciliation was still possible between them.
Chun Shan replied that he already had someone he liked. At that moment, Jiang Huai passed by. Chun Shan rushed over, embraced her, and openly introduced Jiang Huai to Lisa as the person he liked. He and Jiang Huai, who was slightly bewildered, then disappeared from Lisa's sight. The next day was scheduled for a four-person road trip. As everyone packed their luggage at the villa in preparation to depart, Li Zhe arrived.
Seeing that they were all going out together, Li Zhe, unwilling to be left alone, insisted on joining them, and Gu Shiyi reluctantly made space for him in the car. The five individuals – Chun Shan, Jiang Huai, Xue Ji, Gu Shiyi, and Li Zhe – embarked on their journey. During the drive to the seaside, they sang happily, and Li Zhe eventually became tired and slept, resting his head on Gu Shiyi's arm.
Upon arriving at the beach, they ran freely, played boisterously, and enjoyed the short, joyful time by the sea breeze. That night, the group played Truth or Dare. Li Zhe lost a round and was penalized to eat a cookie mouth-to-mouth with someone. Li Zhe, holding the cookie, chose Xue Ji. Seeing this, Chun Shan hugged Jiang Huai, refusing to cooperate with Li Zhe. Gu Shiyi, seeing Li Zhe's choice, pulled Li Zhe's head and ate the cookie with him.
Everyone was stunned; the two quickly separated, embarrassed, while the others secretly laughed. Later, Xue Ji and Gu Shiyi sat outside the tent, watching the stars and imagining their life together in the coming decades. Gu Shiyi pondered how difficult it must have been for Xue Ji to live alone for a thousand years.
Xue Ji reflected on having witnessed the world's countless transformations over a millennium, observing that humans were ultimately the most changeable – sometimes kind, sometimes hypocritical; sometimes full of hope, sometimes fantasizing about love's end. In contrast, trees would still revive each spring, and mountains and rivers remained steadfast despite the passage of time.
She added that being alone had made her very brave and that she found this life to be very worthwhile, feeling very happy even for the current moment's joy. She acknowledged that she had persisted until now carrying such hope, cherishing the friends and loved one she had found after a thousand years. Gu Shiyi looked at Xue Ji deeply, holding her hand, and promised that he would never again make her wait too long.
Early the next morning, Xue Ji woke up early and was by the sea. Suddenly, Tao De called. Tao De informed her that Liu Yu Han, who was Lin Beila, had died in prison the night before yesterday. Xue Ji was startled, dropping her water bottle to the ground, and struggled to conceal her panic. She composed herself and asked Tao De for the cause of death.
Tao De explained that Liu Yu Han's death was extremely bizarre: she had a young face, but all her internal organs had failed as if she were an 80-year-old, concluding it was natural old age and organ failure. Xue Ji fell silent, her mood becoming heavy, wondering if her own time was also limited. Everyone else woke up, and Gu Shiyi searched for Xue Ji.
As Gu Shiyi and Chun Shan were packing to leave the island, Jiang Huai discovered Xue Ji was missing. Gu Shiyi eventually found Xue Ji on the beach. He called out and ran towards her, but Xue Ji stopped him from approaching and declared, "Let's break up." Gu Shiyi was stunned; the Xue Ji before him, who had been affectionately nestled in his arms just last night, now seemed as cold as a stranger.
Xue Ji gave no reason or explanation, deliberately stating that she didn't need him. She then silently tried to leave, but Gu Shiyi grabbed her hands tightly. Xue Ji, struggling to hold back tears, resolutely pulled her hands free and drove away alone. Gu Shiyi watched as she disappeared from his sight.
Xue Ji, on her way out, asked Chun Shan for the car keys, telling everyone that she was going back first and would send a driver to pick them up later. In the car, Xue Ji called Tao De's appointed doctor, inquiring about her medical condition and asking if current advanced technology could treat her illness. Tao De, unsure what had happened to Xue Ji, could not give a definitive answer.
Back home, Li Zhe found Xue Ji in her room, hugging herself tightly, her eyes red, silently sobbing. He gently asked Xue Ji what had happened. Xue Ji, no longer able to suppress the profound despair that had plunged her into an abyss, asked Li Zhe to save her.
She deeply regretted having once said she would die gracefully; now, all she wanted was to live well, but it seemed impossible, just as she had finally found good friends and her true love after a thousand years, only for it all to become a sad memory destined for the grave. Li Zhe, after learning about Xue Ji's situation from Tao De, turned to comfort her, assuring her repeatedly that she would be fine and to trust him.
Xue Ji, however, stopped Li Zhe from telling anyone else, as she did not want her problems to burden her friends and loved ones. Li Zhe patted her shoulder, telling her that she was not as strong as she imagined, and Gu Shiyi was not as fragile as she believed.
Episode 20 Recap
Li Zhe, with a solemn expression, informed Chun Shan and Gu Shiyi about Xue Ji's situation. Gu Shiyi, who had also learned the truth via phone, immediately expressed his desire to see Xue Ji, but Li Zhe explained she was undergoing a medical examination and prevented him from doing so. Later, Chun Shan, Li Zhe, and Jiang Huai decorated their home, setting up a Christmas tree for a warm Christmas celebration.
Jiang Huai went to Xue Ji's room, finding her staring blankly at a medical report. Patting Xue Ji's shoulder, Jiang Huai urged her to come downstairs to see a Santa Claus who had been waiting for a long time. Xue Ji forced a smile and cheerfully ran out, but as she left, Jiang Huai’s smile dropped, and she picked up and looked at Xue Ji's medical report.
Xue Ji went to the balcony, where she saw a Santa Claus dancing downstairs. Deeply moved, she shed tears, then smiled warmly. Santa gestured for her to come down. Approaching him, Xue Ji asked why he wasn't delivering gifts to children and why he wouldn't leave, remarking on the cold weather and that she was no longer a child. Santa replied that he was there to give her a gift and pointed at her. Xue Ji insisted he go home.
At that moment, Santa grabbed and hugged Xue Ji tightly. Xue Ji could no longer hold back her tears, calling out, "Shiyi, go, don't come find me anymore." Gu Shiyi, who was disguised as Santa, then removed his beard. He chided her for not dressing more warmly in the cold. Xue Ji cried again, and they wished each other a Merry Christmas. She hugged him even tighter, lamenting that everything might change.
Gu Shiyi reaffirmed his promise to never leave her side. Back home, Gu Shiyi, Xue Ji, Li Zhe, Chun Shan, and Jiang Huai gathered to celebrate what they knew would be their first and final Christmas reunion. Everyone had prepared a letter for Xue Ji.
Jiang Huai began to read hers, tearfully stating that she had never known a life without worries until she met Xue Ji, who became a presence warmer than family and who gave her a true home. Jiang Huai pledged to accompany Xue Ji wherever she went and cook whatever she desired, acknowledging that her own life had never seen a miracle until Xue Ji. Overcome with emotion, Jiang Huai was unable to continue reading.
Chun Shan then took his turn, reading his letter. He expressed gratitude for Xue Ji, describing her as a very kind person who, even after living for a thousand years, remained innocent. He emphasized she was the person he most wanted to thank and whose happiness he most desired.
Xue Ji shed tears after hearing the letters, yet she faintly smiled, stopped reading, and quietly embraced the crying Jiang Huai, her thin shoulders trembling with sobs, her heart full of concern. She maintained her smile, waved goodbye to her friends, and walked towards her room, disappearing into the darkness with red, tearful eyes. Later, Gu Shiyi and Xue Ji lay in bed, silently gazing at each other.
Xue Ji confessed that she had always disdained the human desire for a long life, but now, she wished like anyone else to continue living, uncertain if she had years, days, or decades left. She expressed regret. Tears streamed down Gu Shiyi's face. He gently cradled Xue Ji's cheek, promising, "I will always be here." Xue Ji, her voice growing weak, said she was tired and asked Gu Shiyi to tell her a story.
She closed her eyes, leaning against him. Gu Shiyi opened a book and began to read "The Cat Who Lived a Million Times." He told of a beautiful tabby cat that lived for a million years, loved by a million people, and cried for by a million upon its death, yet the cat itself never shed a tear.
This cat was adopted by a king, a sailor, and a clumsy magician, all of whom died in accidents and wept profusely for the cat. Gu Shiyi narrated a parallel: Xue Ji had lived for a thousand years, yet her life had never truly belonged to anyone, nor had she known for whom to grieve after witnessing countless cycles of life and death.
The story continued, describing how the tabby cat eventually became a wild cat, aloof to all the admiring female cats until it met a white cat who was equally indifferent to him. Gu Shiyi again drew a parallel, stating this was like Xue Ji meeting Gu Shiyi, who was initially aloof to her. The two cats lived together for many years, had many beautiful kittens, and stayed together until their kittens grew up and left.
The white cat eventually grew old and frail, lying still beside him. For the first time in millions of years, the tabby cat's tears gushed forth. After weeping, he lay quietly beside the white cat, never moving again. Gu Shiyi closed the book. He looked at Xue Ji beside him; she had peacefully closed her eyes and lay still, as if asleep. At that moment, tears gushed from Gu Shiyi’s eyes.
One year later, Gu Shiyi, accompanied by a dog, visited the beach where he and Xue Ji often went. He sat on the sand, gazing at the churning sea, as seagulls circled and cried overhead, and the wind swept across his face. Everything seemed to have returned to how it once was. On Gu Shiyi's T-shirt, there was a drawing of a small boy, made by Xue Ji, smiling brightly as always.
