Zhou Jingmang initially declined, explaining she wasn't accustomed to walking with boys. Li Yu Xiang playfully asked if she meant boys in general or just him, then clarified he was joking.
He expressed admiration for her writing and personality, stating he eagerly awaited the lyrics she was writing, and asked if they could be friends. Meanwhile, in the dance room, Zhang Yang was guiding Shen Yinghui through dance moves, but his mind seemed elsewhere due to Zhou Jingmang and Li Yu Xiang leaving. Shen Yinghui asked for confirmation on a move, and Zhang Yang, after affirming it, encouraged her to practice more.
He then abruptly ended the session, noting how late it was and how hard she had worked. He suggested buying fruit for everyone and asked Shen Yinghui to pick some. At the fruit stand, Shen Yinghui opted for apples, but Zhang Yang also bought a large quantity of mangoes, enough for ten people.
He gave the entire bag of mangoes to Shen Yinghui, telling her to take it back to her dorm for everyone, clearly implying they were for Zhou Jingmang, a fact Shen Yinghui quickly deduced. That same morning, Zhang Yang and Zhuang Jie arrived late to class and were each ordered to write a thousand-word self-reflection by Teacher Zhou, much to Qin Zhen's annoyance, as Zhuang Jie had stood her up for their morning run. Teacher Zhou also assigned Zhang Yang to copy words. Zhang Yang then insisted that Zhou Jingmang come to the dance studio with him to complete her punishment, framing it as a contribution to their performance.
Shen Yinghui offered to help Zhang Yang, but he declined, maintaining that Zhou Jingmang’s presence was crucial for the program. He then took her notebook, compelling her to follow. During a break in dance practice, Zhang Yang offered Zhou Jingmang mangoes, suggesting they would help refresh her mind to focus on their shared assignment. Zhou Jingmang tried to decline.
Li Yu Xiang then intervened, retrieving Zhou Jingmang's backpack that Zhang Yang had playfully placed out of her reach, and told Zhang Yang to let her return to the dorm. Zhang Yang, however, insisted that there were still forty minutes before the dorms closed and he needed to supervise Zhou Jingmang as she wrote her lyrics, telling Li Yu Xiang to leave first. As Zhou Jingmang wrote, Zhang Yang peeled mangoes for her.
When she pointed out his previous claim of disliking mangoes, he retorted, "My name is Zhou Jing Mang, why wouldn't I like eating mangoes?" Back in his dorm, Zhang Yang was consumed by Zhou Jingmang's lyrics, spending hours humming and choreographing a dance for them. He forced a weary Zhuang Jie to watch him practice, despite Zhuang Jie reminding him of his bet with Qin Zhen to run the next morning.
That night, Zhou Jingmang had a distressing nightmare, feeling inferior as Zhang Yang praised Shen Yinghui's graceful ballet and street dance skills, while dismissing Zhou Jingmang as "ugly and dumb," "useless," and less capable than even Yu Hui Tong. Awakened by Shen Yinghui, Zhou Jingmang confessed her feelings of uselessness and lack of talent, contrasting herself with Shen Yinghui's multifaceted abilities.
Shen Yinghui gently reassured her that her own skills were the result of immense effort and highlighted Zhang Yang's deep passion for dance. Qin Zhen then entered, reminding them both of her morning bet with Zhuang Jie. The following day, at the dance studio, Li Yu Xiang affectionately gave Zhou Jingmang the nickname "Xiao Mango," noting its resemblance to her name and finding it charming, though Zhou Jingmang preferred to be called by her full name.
Zhang Yang then presented his newly produced music, featuring Zhou Jingmang's lyrics, which he performed with a rap and a dance. Zhou Jingmang was deeply moved and impressed by his talent. Li Yu Xiang proposed incorporating a distinct street dance segment into the overall performance just for Zhou Jingmang, emphasizing her potential for growth despite any perceived clumsiness. Zhang Yang agreed to the idea, but firmly asserted he would be the one to choreograph that specific dance.
Later, Zhuang Jie fulfilled his side of the bet with Qin Zhen, loudly proclaiming "I am a pig!" in a prominent area, drawing widespread laughter from the surrounding school buildings. Qin Zhen later found a photo of the incident in her dorm, which greatly amused her. Zhou Jingmang then informed Qin Zhen about her unexpected new role in the dance performance. Qin Zhen was surprised and expressed skepticism about the casual selection process for such a significant show.
Zhou Jingmang explained that Li Yu Xiang had suggested it, seeing her perceived lack of coordination as "significant room for improvement," and had even offered to choreograph a special dance for her. Qin Zhen, however, voiced a warning, speculating that Li Yu Xiang might harbor ulterior motives and was possibly seeing Zhou Jingmang through a "thick filter." On her way to the dance studio the next day, Zhou Jingmang was stopped by Li Yu Xiang, who playfully intercepted her.
He presented her with knee pads, calling them a "magic weapon" to prevent her from crying in pain and embarrassing herself in front of Zhang Yang. He insisted on accompanying her to teach her. Zhang Yang and Shen Yinghui soon arrived at the dance studio, only to witness Li Yu Xiang intimately guiding Zhou Jingmang through dance moves.
This sight stung Zhang Yang, prompting an internal monologue about his desire to draw Zhou Jingmang into his world and be the sole influence on her thoughts, actions, and aspirations, recognizing his jealousy when others began to shape her experiences. In the present year, 2015, Zhou Jingmang met with Shen Yinghui and confided that she had seen Zhang Yang, but he seemed changed. Shen Yinghui offered to investigate Zhang Yang's whereabouts.
She called Zhou Jingmang from Zhang Yang's company, informing her that he had taken urgent leave due to family matters and his return date was uncertain. During the call, Shen Yinghui suddenly fell silent because she unexpectedly saw Zhang Yang with Yu Hui Tong. Disturbed, Zhou Jingmang urgently requested time off from a colleague and rushed to the law firm where Zhang Yang worked.
