Zhang Yang brought Zhou Jingmang to the Broadcasting Room, where he had already switched out old songs for popular ones, including "Invisible Wings." He then tested her reflexes by pointing to words in a brochure, instructing her to read them quickly. Unbeknownst to Zhou Jingmang, he had secretly turned on the microphone, causing her to inadvertently broadcast "Zhou Jingmang idolizes Zhang Yang" to the entire school. The students erupted in excitement, while Zhou Jingmang was furious, feeling tricked.
Zhang Yang explained that this was a strategic move, a "fight to the death to survive" tactic, to introduce a new topic that would quickly overshadow the old rumors about her and the teacher. He then gave her a new lip balm, suggesting a new look as a fresh start, just as she had written in her novel.
The student who allowed Zhang Yang to use the Broadcasting Room, Wang Miao, was upset, telling Zhang Yang that the Broadcasting Room teacher was going to give him a demerit. Wang Miao felt that merely receiving concert tickets was not enough compensation for the risk. He then proposed a condition: Zhang Yang must obtain the latter half of Zhou Jingmang's novel for him. Zhang Yang used a borrowed phone to record Wang Miao's request.
Later, Zhang Yang played this recording for Zhou Jingmang, explaining that her novel was becoming popular throughout their grade and that this was genuine feedback, affirming her dream of becoming a novelist was achievable. Zhou Jingmang, while appreciative, did not explicitly show her emotions. She took the opportunity to return the cleaned training uniform Zhang Yang had lent her. Meanwhile, Director Zhou, the disciplinary teacher, discussed Zhang Yang and Zhou Jingmang's behavior with their class teacher, Teacher Shi.
Director Zhou insisted on issuing a public criticism at the weekly student assembly, stating that whether the incident would be recorded in their permanent files would depend on their future conduct. Teacher Shi argued that it was just children fooling around and that a demerit would unfairly tarnish their records for life, but Director Zhou was firm, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.
Subsequently, an Intensive Study Class was formed, and Zhou Jingmang, Shen Yinghui, and Ling Chen were selected from their class for achieving top ranks. Zhou Jingmang, who placed 29th, was relieved to be with her friends and not alone. Yu Huitong was also selected for the same class. Concerned by what she perceived as frequent issues since Zhou Jingmang started living at school, her mother decided she needed to have a serious talk with her daughter that night.
However, her father advised against it without proof, prompting her mother to resolve to find concrete evidence first. Zhang Yang left a message on the floor for Zhou Jingmang, asking her to meet him on the rooftop at noon. Yu Huitong happened to see Zhou Jingmang heading there and overheard their conversation from the stairwell. Zhou Jingmang apologized to Zhang Yang for her previous behavior regarding his gift, but he assured her he was not upset about that.
He explained that he wasn't angry about how she treated his gift, but rather something else. Zhou Jingmang expressed her desire to truly understand him to accurately portray his character in her novel and to learn about his dreams. Watching Zhou Jingmang smile brightly in the wind, Zhang Yang had an internal thought: he realized all his efforts to support her were worthwhile, and he wished that all her dreams would be fulfilled.
As they talked, Yu Huitong, fueled by jealousy, deliberately informed Director Zhou about their rooftop meeting. Director Zhou then arrived, catching Zhang Yang gently touching Zhou Jingmang's head. In the present day of 2015, Yu Huitong's mother arranged a blind date for her after work. To Yu Huitong's surprise, her date turned out to be Zhang Yang, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
