Shen Yinghui brought Zhou Jingmang, in a new outfit she had chosen for her, before everyone, immediately captivating their attention, including Zhang Yang, who found himself drawn to her transformed appearance. Before their hip-hop performance, Zhang Yang received an unanswered call and a message on his phone, but he chose to focus on the stage.
During their performance, Shen Yinghui began with a brief ballet solo before transitioning into the dynamic hip-hop routine. Zhou Jingmang performed exceptionally well, blending seamlessly with the dance, and the lyrics she penned contributed to a perfect show. Teacher Shi noted that Zhou Jingmang wrote the lyrics, leading Teacher Zhou to revise his opinion of her.
He particularly liked the line "No regrets in youth, no fear in youth" and admitted he had misjudged her previously, having believed she was just trying to attract attention. As they exited the stage, Zhou Jingmang unfortunately stumbled and fell, drawing scoffs from the audience. Zhang Yang, demonstrating quick thinking, immediately grabbed a microphone and began singing "Invisible Wings," skillfully alleviating her embarrassment.
Their hip-hop routine secured first place, and Zhang Yang announced he would treat everyone to a celebratory meal that evening. Yu Hui Tong approached Zhang Yang with flowers to congratulate him, but he politely declined, returning them to her. Undeterred, Yu Hui Tong thanked him for returning the flowers, muttering to herself.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yang was torn about whether to pursue a rare trainee opportunity that would require him to move to Beijing for a fully enclosed training program, making him reluctant to leave behind his current life and friends. Later, at their celebration meal, Zhuang Jie prepared a special drink called "No Fears in Youth." Zhou Jingmang expressed a desire to try it, but Zhang Yang firmly prevented her.
Zhang Yang then stepped out to take a call from his agent, who was keen on signing him. He explained that he still needed more time to consider the offer, promising a reply after the Spring Festival break. He was contemplating whether pursuing his dream in Beijing meant sacrificing everything from his current high school life. Separately, in the restroom, Zhang Yang encountered Li Yuxiang and told him pointedly that Zhou Jingmang would not like him.
The group was having such a good time that they misjudged the hour, realizing they only had fifteen minutes before the school gates and dorms closed. They rushed back, but the school was already locked. Deciding to climb a nearby fence, they were caught in the act by Xiao Teacher Ma. Instead of reporting them to the school, Xiao Teacher Ma arranged for the dorm managers to allow them back in, stating he would personally handle the punishment.
He instructed them to return to their dorms and meet him in his office the next day. The next day, his unified punishment for everyone was a "complete general practice test set." Xiao Teacher Ma also praised Zhou Jingmang for her well-written lyrics and dancing, highlighting the beauty of working towards a goal with like-minded friends, but reminded her to prioritize her studies with the final exams approaching.
Zhou Jingmang persistently tried to get Zhang Yang to start working on the test papers, urging him to focus on studying. Zhang Yang, however, found various excuses, claiming he was too busy and wouldn't be able to start until the following week. At that moment, Ling Chen suddenly suffered a severe nosebleed that wouldn't stop. Shen Yinghui, concerned, suggested taking him to a hospital, mentioning her parents were doctors and that an uncontrollable nosebleed could be serious.
Ling Chen agreed to go to her parents' hospital. Qin Zhen observed Ling Chen smiling for the first time, noting his unexpected cheerfulness even with a bloody nose, which made her realize Ling Chen might have stronger feelings for Shen Yinghui than for her. She also mused that her knitted gloves might only be accepted by Ling Chen if delivered by Shen Yinghui. Shen Yinghui and Ling Chen took a taxi to the nearby Second Affiliated Hospital to save time.
Feeling that Zhang Yang was merely being evasive about the test papers, Zhou Jingmang sought out Zhuang Jie, offering him a chicken drumstick in exchange for information. After making Zhou Jingmang promise not to reveal what he was about to say to anyone else, Zhuang Jie explained Zhang Yang's real situation. He revealed that Zhang Yang had always loved street dance, but his traditional father disapproved, viewing it as improper.
In middle school, Zhang Yang secretly used money his mother gave him for tuition to pay for dance lessons. His father discovered this after he graduated from middle school and, in a fit of rage, kicked him out. As Zhang Yang refused to yield, he moved out and now relies on earning money through performances to support his dancing.
With rising dance expenses, he had taken on more gigs, which was why he was so busy and had rented a place to live. Moved by Zhang Yang's struggle, Zhou Jingmang prepared a thoughtful bento box for him, including the chicken drumstick she had given Zhuang Jie. She left it for him with a note that read: "Good luck with your dream! Good luck as well on your tests! The drumstick is a plus."
Zhang Yang, upon waking, found the bento and the note, feeling deeply touched. As the school break approached, Zhou Jingmang, Shen Yinghui, and their friends discussed their holiday plans. Some mentioned boring homework, others strict ballet practice, while one friend excitedly described a family vacation with sleeping in, scenic photos, and barbecues. Zhou Jingmang wanted to ask Zhang Yang about his plans.
She rehearsed her approach outside his dorm, but when she finally saw him, she awkwardly asked if he read novels. She handed him a novel she had recently written. Zhang Yang accepted it and, in return, gave her a carefully packaged box of chocolates, though he claimed they were a gift from someone else and that he didn't like sweets. Despite his seemingly nonchalant attitude, Zhou Jingmang was delighted. In 2015, a significant jump in time occurred.
Zhuang Jie and Qin Zhen, who were together, were planning a dinner to announce their relationship to Shen Yinghui and Zhou Jingmang. Qin Zhen joked that Zhuang Jie was preparing to get formally and legally married and wanted a grand reveal. Shen Yinghui and Zhou Jingmang arrived. While talking, Shen Yinghui revealed that she had recently seen Zhang Yang working at a law firm, where they crossed paths due to a company collaboration.
Zhou Jingmang then clarified that she had deliberately gone to his firm to find out about him and had seen him there, noting he was with Yu Hui Tong. She added that they, along with Zhang Yang, had gone to a cafe to talk, and it seemed like a chance encounter between Zhang Yang and Yu Hui Tong. Zhou Jingmang then conveyed Zhang Yang’s surprising request that they all treat him as a stranger.
Zhou Jingmang was visibly confused and hurt by this. Zhuang Jie excused himself to the restroom and answered a call from Zhang Yang. Zhang Yang was annoyed that Zhuang Jie had revealed his wish to be a stranger to their friends. Zhuang Jie retorted that he couldn't keep secrets as well as Zhang Yang and that the situation had been awkward. He quickly ended the call as Qin Zhen approached. Qin Zhen, suspicious, confronted Zhuang Jie about his phone call.
He eventually admitted that he had maintained contact with Zhang Yang throughout the years, and also with Qin Zhen, but had kept his connection with Zhang Yang a secret from her.
