Yu Chu and A Yi, having infiltrated the Green Gang compound, found themselves surrounded. As A Yi faced imminent danger, Chongliming arrived with Magic Machine camp soldiers, compelling the youth gang members to stand down. Yu Chu explained to Chongliming that Big Silly had been captured by the gang. Chongliming immediately declared he would help locate Big Silly and sent his soldiers to search, while he personally oversaw the search in Lian Er's room.

However, they found no trace of Big Silly and eventually departed. Chongliming reprimanded A Yi for his reckless solo infiltration, suggesting that he and Yu Chu could not have succeeded alone. A Yi, in an unusual display of emotion, pledged his life to Chongliming if he helped rescue Big Silly.

Amused by A Yi's lengthy promise, Chongliming agreed to help, assuring him he would deploy Magic Machine camp's Eight Banners soldiers for the search, confident in their ability to find anyone in the capital. His condition, however, was that A Yi must join Brilliant Situation. A Yi initially refused, citing Brilliant Situation as his enemy, but Chongliming countered that this very reason made his enlistment essential.

Chongliming then led A Yi to a secret archive, where he revealed files detailing the Tu Village massacre. A Yi discovered that Fan Zhu Yang Ming had led the mission, which sought a seven or eight-year-old boy. Chongliming confessed his own desire to eliminate the former Brilliant Situation members, as they were responsible for the death of his elder brother, Schultai, who had been the intended successor to Yang Ming as Fan Zhu.

He recounted how Rui Zhen and Mu Yi had conspired to kill Schultai before ruthlessly purging the imperial party. Chongliming vowed to make them pay, proposing an alliance where A Yi would join Brilliant Situation, and they would both seek revenge against their common enemies. A Yi accepted. Meanwhile, Prince Zhe Yu, observing Chongliming's renewed determination after discussions with Prince Deqi, decided to integrate Yu Chu into Brilliant Situation.

He informed her that she was to be the new member, tasked with monitoring Chongliming for any hidden schemes with Prince Deqi. He also instructed her to rally the disillusioned former Brilliant Situation members and seize any opportunity to replace Chongliming, ensuring the organization remained under their control. Prince Zhe Yu assured Yu Chu he would facilitate her entry.

Back at the Magic Machine camp mansion, Chongliming formally introduced A Yi as the newest member of Brilliant Situation, commending his skills. Their announcement was interrupted by Rui Zhen, who arrived bearing a secret imperial decree from the Empress Dowager and the Regent. The decree stipulated a "restructuring" of Brilliant Situation with the addition of only one new member to complete the nine-person roster, and that selected individual was Yu Chu. Yu Chu then stepped forward, confirming her role.

Chongliming vehemently protested, citing Brilliant Situation's two-hundred-year tradition of admitting only men. Rui Zhen, however, cleverly countered by pointing out that A Yi, a non-Eight Banners descendant, was also an exception to their long-standing rules. Chongliming asserted that his chosen brothers, regardless of their background, were entitled to join Brilliant Situation, and he alone held the authority to decide their membership, challenging the Regent's directive.

To resolve the dispute, Chongliming declared a rigorous month-long special training, where only the most exceptional candidates would earn a place in Brilliant Situation. Yu Chu, undeterred, affirmed her commitment to prove her worth. Later, Yu Chu was assigned to the same dormitory as Si San, Wen Gou, and A Yi. Wen Gou immediately began to taunt her, leading to a heated exchange where both drew their firearms, a standoff that was broken up by Ke Yan Xin.

Learning of the incident, Chongliming confronted Yu Chu, who accused him of instigating Wen Gou's hostility to drive her out. Chongliming denied the accusation, claiming he would welcome her if she could prove herself through merit. He even made a playful remark about enjoying her constant presence. Yu Chu, annoyed, retaliated by stating she would stay longer and "make things interesting" for him.

Elsewhere, Lian Er and his men ambushed the Prince's carriage, but the Prince managed to escape through a window, leaving Lian Er to return empty-handed. Back at the Brilliant Situation trainees' dormitory, thick smoke suddenly billowed into the room, causing the recruits to cough as they discovered the door was locked. Three masked attackers then stormed in, engaging Yu Chu, Si San, A Yi, and others in a fierce struggle.

A Yi quickly located a hidden exit and led everyone to safety outside. Chongliming was waiting, revealing the entire ordeal was a meticulously planned test. Yu Chu, realizing Wen Gou was still trapped inside, bravely re-entered the smoke-filled room and rescued him. Chongliming publicly announced that only A Yi, who discovered the escape route, and Yu Chu, who prioritized saving a comrade, had successfully passed the first challenge.

Yu Chu expressed her dissatisfaction with Chongliming's harsh methods, but he retorted by exposing her true purpose: she was Prince Zhe Yu's operative, sent to spy on him. Yu Chu, in turn, vowed to stay longer and ensure he would have a challenging time. The rigorous training for the Brilliant Situation recruits continued, encompassing detailed studies of weaponry, mechanical engineering, and human anatomy. The recruits, though exhausted, persisted fiercely. Simultaneously, Chongliming continued his covert investigation.

He met with Eunuch Liu at Shanglin Xianguan for drinks with entertainers, where he obtained the Emperor's daily life registry and learned that Dong Lianhai, once a trusted figure, had been sent back to his hometown by the Empress Dowager. Meanwhile, Lian Er's extensive search for the Crown Prince of the Green Gang, Hua Jiuqing, remained fruitless. He received reports that she had not returned to Shanghai, and his men had scoured Beijing without success.

Suspecting Chongliming's recent raid on the Beijing Green Gang headquarters was merely a pretext for a deeper investigation, Lian Er instructed his manager to relocate their incriminating account books from the premises, fearing that the shifting political climate could expose their network of bribed officials. Unbeknownst to them, Hua Jiuqing, after being pursued, had collapsed in a flower field and was discovered by Dong Lianhai. Upon waking, she found herself chained.

Dong Lianhai, overcome with emotion by her striking resemblance to the Empress Mother Lao Foye, knelt before her, believing he had been granted another chance to be with "her." Hua Jiuqing, disoriented and frightened, demanded to be untied, accusing Dong Lianhai of drugging her. He, however, continued to address her as the Empress Mother Lao Foye, claiming she was in her sleeping quarters and he was preparing her makeup.

Chongliming also spent time with Fang Er, meticulously reviewing the Emperor's daily life registry in his quest to uncover the Emperor's true cause of death. He gifted Fang Er a deed to a courtyard in Little Chunshu hutong, granting her a place of her own in the capital. Fang Er, deeply touched, expressed immense gratitude for his generosity, as she had never had a secure home since arriving in the city.

Later, as Wen Gou and Si San were barbecuing, A Yi attempted to take some meat, but Wen Gou stopped him, admonishing him for being impatient. Yu Chu, witnessing this, called Wen Gou a "food-hoarding dog," and then took A Yi away, promising to find him something delicious to eat, clearly fed up with Wen Gou's behavior.
