Can Yan Xin was once again confronted by his creditors, who mocked him and demanded payment. He tried to appeal for one more day of grace, but they refused and slapped him. Chong Liming, unable to stand by, intervened, subduing the attacker in a few quick moves. He then took out a Gold Bar to settle Can Yan Xin's debt. As the creditors started to leave, Chong Liming called them back, insisting that Can Yan Xin return the slap.
With renewed determination, Can Yan Xin struck the man, frightening the creditors, who fled. Chong Liming then borrowed Old Ma Tou's cart to take the heavily intoxicated Wen Gou and Wagner home. Can Yan Xin casually brought up their plan to seek revenge on Yang Zhen. Chong Liming, mindful of Wagner's family responsibilities, decided not to involve him in the dangerous mission and planned to inform Wen Gou alone once he sobered up the next day.
Wagner, still somewhat dazed, overheard their conversation. Meanwhile, Si San, relying on his memory, meticulously drew a map of the Beiyang Army's garrison, marking the positions of their artillery. Fang Rulin, a Beiyang Army brigade commander, received a secret order confirming that supplies had arrived in Nanan city. He immediately ordered a lockdown on all information, aiming to deal a heavy blow to the Revolutionary Army stationed at Houfankou.
The next morning, Wen Gou, having sobered up, learned of Chong Liming and Can Yan Xin's intent to go to Nanan city to avenge themselves against Yang Zhen. Having waited years for this moment, Wen Gou vowed to dedicate everything he had to support Chong Liming. Back at home, Qing'er confronted Wagner, chastising him for endlessly supporting Can Yan Xin's opium addiction and for even considering risking his life with Chong Liming.
She expressed her desire for a peaceful life with him. Wagner was speechless, but their conversation was cut short when Qing'er was suddenly overcome by severe abdominal pain, and her water broke, signaling that she was in labor. Wagner quickly helped her to lie down. Wen Gou then led Chong Liming and Can Yan Xin to his extensive warehouse, revealing an impressive collection of modern weapons and ammunition.
Chong Liming decided to disassemble the firearms and hide them within their luggage to board an early train to Nanan city at 6:30 AM the following morning. Meanwhile, Hua Jiuqing embarked on a ship bound for England. As she gazed back at the vast expanse of Shanghai, she was filled with a mix of emotions. The next morning, Chong Liming, Can Yan Xin, and Wen Gou arrived at the train station to find Wagner already there, holding tickets for them.
Wagner explained that he had managed to convince Qing'er, vowing to return to his wife and newborn son only after killing Yang Zhen. Chong Liming, delighted to learn that Qing'er had given birth to a boy, promised to help them celebrate the baby's full moon upon their successful return. As the journey progressed, Fang Rulin's Beiyang Army, having received new arms and ammunition, launched a relentless bombardment on the Revolutionary Army at Houfankou.
A Yi urged Zhou Jue to retaliate, but with only three shells remaining, they could only brace for a desperate defense. The Beiyang Army's artillery pounded their positions throughout the afternoon, inflicting heavy casualties on the Revolutionary Army. Chong Liming and his three companions eventually arrived outside Nanan city, where the thunderous sound of Beiyang Army artillery echoed. Concerned about the safety of traveling at night amidst ongoing hostilities, Wagner suggested they find lodging.
Chong Liming decided they should stay at a large inn in Niujia Village. Wen Gou found the place too rustic and suggested staying with a local farmer, but Chong Liming insisted on maintaining a low profile to avoid exposure. Inside Nanan city, Yang Zhen proposed to Fang Rulin that they pursue the Revolutionary Army and seize Houfankou, capitalizing on their momentum.
However, Fang Rulin cautioned him against being overzealous and acting prematurely, advising him to wait for the main forces to arrive. Yang Zhen reluctantly agreed. Later that night, Can Yan Xin, struggling with his opium addiction, secretly got up to smoke. Wen Gou caught him in the act and expressed his disappointment. Can Yan Xin was filled with remorse, hitting himself in the face.
Wen Gou, however, reminded him that he would always be his brother, and no brother of his was a failure, encouraging him to overcome his addiction. The next day, the Beiyang Army moved into Niujia Village, setting up defenses and summoning the village head to account for all outsiders. Realizing the danger, Chong Liming quickly gathered his companions to leave the inn. As they attempted a stealthy exit, a Beiyang Army officer spotted them.
Chong Liming claimed they were merchants, but the officer remained unconvinced. The situation escalated, and a tense standoff ensued, with both sides drawing weapons. To escape, Chong Liming and his group were forced to abandon their luggage and fight their way out of Niujia Village. Fleeing into the forest, Chong Liming and his three companions were just about to rest when they were discovered by a patrol from the National Guard Army.
Chong Liming recognized them as part of the Revolutionary Army and insisted on meeting their highest-ranking officer. A Yi soon arrived, recognizing Chong Liming, Wen Gou, Can Yan Xin, and Wagner. Overjoyed, A Yi's emotions were evident. Chong Liming then revealed their true purpose: to kill Yang Zhen. A Yi, still deeply pained by the deaths of his mother and Yuchu, demanded to personally avenge them by joining the mission.
Chong Liming gently but firmly explained that A Yi's place was on his current battlefield and he could not accompany them to Nanan. Recalling Yuchu's tragic end, Chong Liming felt his heart ache, but he urged A Yi not to forget his responsibilities, emphasizing that A Yi was treading a path Chong Liming himself wished he could have taken but could not. Chong Liming implored A Yi to remain with the army, and A Yi eventually conceded.
Under the guise of being medicine merchants, Chong Liming and his three companions managed to enter Nanan city, successfully passing inspection by the city guards. However, their arrival did not go unnoticed, and Captain Miao, one of Yang Zhen's subordinates, immediately began tracking them, following them all the way to Dexing Inn. There, Chong Liming reunited with Si San, who was incredibly excited to see them. Can Yan Xin, eager for information, immediately asked about Yang Zhen's whereabouts, prompting Si San to produce a detailed map.
