Mary appealed to Chong Liming to release the hostages, promising not to hold him accountable and to find a way for them to leave. Chong Liming dismissed her offer, stating that it was already too late. He then ordered Yang Zhen to kidnap Mary. Chong Liming demanded that Leon prepare food, water, 500 bullets, and two cars within one hour, a demand Leon flatly refused. Chong Liming forcefully brought Mary into the hospital.
Mary resisted fiercely, prompting Chong Liming to warn her against any rash actions. He declared that if Yu Chu could not be saved, everyone would suffer the consequences with her. Desperate, William and Leon sought assistance from the Municipal Council of the concession. However, the Japanese and French envoys remained unmoved, instead accusing William and Leon of illicitly trading Keliline, which had cut into their opium business. They noted that merchants throughout the concession were envious of their success.
William retorted by threatening that the Far East Company would cease all other business collaborations with them. At this point, Prince Deqi arrived in a hurry, pleading with Leon and William, but they refused to listen and forcibly expelled him. Prince Deqi then instructed an attendant to inform Chong Liming to seize an opportunity to escape, emphasizing that these actions were unrelated to the imperial court.
Leon suggested pretending to agree to Chong Liming's demands as a diversion, allowing them to secretly deploy the foreign gun team to rescue Mary and then eliminate Chong Liming and his group. William found this plan too risky, but Leon proposed a vote among the envoys, who ultimately sided with Leon. Leon led the foreign gun team to Shengxin Hospital. A Yi arrived shortly after with his troops, encircling the foreign gun team.
He then went inside the hospital and inquired about Yu Chu's injury. Chong Liming explained she was hurt while trying to obtain Yanic’s pharmacological report. A Yi agreed to help them leave, and Chong Liming asked A Yi to retrieve the report from Yanic's clinic after the hostages were released. Leon sent Si San to relay a message to Chong Liming, agreeing to provide food and bullets but no cars.
In response, Chong Liming released all medical personnel from the hospital. Yang Zhen confronted Mary, accusing her of profiting from the illicit trade of Keliline, which had devastated countless families. Mary insisted that Keliline was a standard medicine and not addictive. Meanwhile, William, realizing Mary was not among the released hostages, grew furious and worried about how he would explain this to Mr. Kane, for which Leon severely reprimanded him.
After her surgery, Yu Chu remained unconscious, and Chong Liming desperately wished for her to wake up. Can Yan Xin went to the youth gang late at night to ask Hua Jiuqing for help. Hua Jiuqing was initially hesitant, and Big Cat strongly advised against assisting Chong Liming, fearing it would provoke the foreigners. After careful consideration, Hua Jiuqing immediately ordered all available members to Shengxin Hospital. Zhou Jue later arrived at Shengxin Hospital.
After a brief discussion, he led his troops away but stayed behind with Chong Liming. Chong Liming, however, did not appreciate his presence. Hua Jiuqing and the youth gang brothers arrived at the hospital, confronting the foreign gun team. Chong Liming declared that his actions were not solely for Yu Chu but for Shanghai, which had become a playground for foreigners. He wanted to assert that Chinese people should never be bullied.
Chong Liming intended to use Mary as leverage to escape the concession, though Hua Jiuqing predicted the foreigners would not give up easily. Just then, Yu Chu regained consciousness. Chong Liming rushed to her side. Learning that he had taken Mary hostage, Yu Chu chided him for his impulsive actions. Chong Liming vowed to ensure her safe escape. A Yi went to Yanic’s clinic that night but could not find the pharmacological report.
Upon returning to his base, he found that Zhou Jue had brought all the soldiers back. A Yi wanted to go to Shengxin Hospital to assist Chong Liming, but Zhou Jue revealed he had already mobilized various sectors of Shanghai society to rally in support of Chong Liming, which reassured A Yi. Peter Hong arrived at Shengxin Hospital and forcibly led the youth gang members away under orders from Mr. Jin.
Chong Liming urged Hua Jiuqing to leave with them, but she chose to remain by his side. Leon then led the foreign gun team to storm the hospital. Wagner fired warning shots from a second-floor balcony, initiating a fierce battle. Yu Chu, using Mary as a hostage, appeared on the balcony and forced Leon to order the foreign gun team to withdraw from the hospital. Si San and Wen Gou quickly moved to replace her.
Simultaneously, a large procession of protestors from various Shanghai communities arrived at Shengxin Hospital. They passionately protested, demanding Chong Liming's release, and formed a protective circle around the foreign gun team, allowing Yu Chu, Chong Liming, and their allies to escape safely. Prince Deqi received protest letters from various foreign envoys. He harshly chastised Chong Liming and vehemently distanced the imperial court from his actions. Chong Liming became disillusioned, resolving to break ties with the court.
He reminded Deqi of their sacrifices for the court in Sichuan, only for Deqi and others to constantly compromise with foreigners. Enraged, Deqi cursed Chong Liming and officially announced that they had no further connection with the court. Chong Liming returned to inform Can Yan Xin, Wen Gou, and Wagner of Prince Deqi's decision. Wiping away his tears, Chong Liming went to Yu Chu's room. Yu Chu, having overheard their conversation, inquired about his future plans. Chong Liming declared his determination to continue investigating Keliline. Meanwhile, Hua Jiuqing returned to the youth gang headquarters, where Mr. Jin silently patted her shoulder.
