Yang Zhen, with his terribly burned hands, knelt before Chongliming and others, expressing deep remorse for his past betrayal of his brothers and Yan Shifang. He confessed he had no face to return and feared Chongliming would kill him. Chongliming pressed him for more information, so Yang Zhen recounted the night of the fire.

He falsely claimed that after they fell from the roof, his mother, Ruowan, was unharmed, but despite his repeated warnings not to speak loudly or breathe heavily, she panicked. Surrounded by thick smoke, she quickly passed out. He described dragging her out of the burning building, only to find she had already died. He explained that he then came to Shanghai, living in the church from his childhood.

He knew about Chongliming's participation in the international competition but dared not face him or A Yi. He claimed his return was prompted by overhearing a plot to kill Chongliming. He revealed that he heard a foreigner, whom William referred to as Leon, telling William to hire a Chinese assassin to kill Chongliming on the spot if he won the match.

A Yi, heartbroken by the news of his mother's death, volunteered to handle the assassination threat, and Chongliming instructed Can Yan Xin to assist him. Chongliming then sternly reminded Yang Zhen that he had forgiven him for stealing Lian Er's Gold Bars to save Ruowan, but his secrecy led to the fire and her demise. A Yi, overcoming his grief, chose to forgive Yang Zhen.

Chongliming offered Yang Zhen a pair of gloves to cover his burns and allowed him to stay. Later, Wagner voiced his suspicions about Yang Zhen to Si San, finding his sudden reappearance at such a critical moment strange. Si San, however, dismissed his worries, pointing out that Yang Zhen’s warning about the assassin, whether true or false, made them more vigilant and could be seen as helpful. That night, A Yi visited Yang Zhen to learn more about his mother.

Yang Zhen tearfully recounted Ruowan's gentle nature when he first arrived at Yang Fu, how she sang songs and told stories, and fed him osmanthus cake under the moonlight. He then described her painful transformation after she learned he wasn't her biological son, becoming consumed by the search for her true child and frequently arguing with Yang Ming.

He spoke of Yang Ming's journey to find A Yi, which involved the massacre of the Horse Thief village, and how Ruowan’s mental state deteriorated into madness after Yang Ming was presumed dead. A Yi then revealed that Yang Ming had not died in the massacre but had suffered injuries and amnesia, eventually passing away only a month prior after living as a wanderer, completely unaware of his past as Yan Shifang's master.

Yang Zhen confessed his guilt for effectively replacing A Yi in Ruowan’s life. Yang Zhen then mentioned that Yang Ming was buried in Yangjia Cemetery with Ruowan's symbolic burial garments, reuniting them in a way. A Yi admitted his hatred for Yang Zhen but also his own self-hatred, feeling his very birth was a mistake. He concluded by welcoming Yang Zhen back, acknowledging that Yang Zhen's warning had potentially saved Chongliming’s life.

Meanwhile, Yuchu brought Aspirin to Chongliming for his injuries and urged him to withdraw from the competition, warning him of Leon's assassination plot. Chongliming was resolute, declaring that he couldn't lose, as it was the one thing he could still control and change in the world, motivated by dreams of his deceased father and brother supporting his victory.

Yuchu then decided to steal Keliline's drug test report from the Taihe foreign company's safe to expose its illicit contents, even if it meant missing Chongliming’s match. She cautioned Chongliming to be wary of Yang Zhen, despite his warning, and to take his Aspirin and have Wagner check his waist injury before the fight. Public sentiment shifted dramatically as betting odds for Chongliming’s victory plummeted to 1:5, triggering protests outside Taihe foreign company.

William, under pressure, contacted Leon, who arrived via a back entrance. Leon confirmed that he had bribed Plum, the Japanese contestant, to kill Chongliming during the match and assured William that if Plum failed, William’s own assassin would finish the job, thus providing "double insurance" to eliminate Chongliming and prevent any negative impact on the company. At the competition venue, Yang Zhen and A Yi meticulously searched for any suspicious activity. Wagner stood guard at the entrance, scrutinizing every spectator.

Can Yan Xin overheard Plum speaking Japanese in a room with a man about using a needle to kill Chongliming, but misunderstanding the language, he dismissed it as harmless and left. In the resting room, Wen Gou urged Chongliming to prolong his fight to allow A Yi more time to find the assassin, but Chongliming expressed his unwavering trust in A Yi.

During this time, Inspector Huang received an anonymous note detailing a plan to steal the pharmacology report from Taihe foreign company. Mary, upon hearing the news, ordered William to accompany Inspector Huang and capture the thief alive. To facilitate Yuchu’s mission, Si San caused a diversion at the Taihe foreign company’s entrance by pretending to be a drunken troublemaker, drawing the guards away. Yuchu then successfully infiltrated the building, located the safe, and retrieved the drug test report.

However, as she attempted to leave, she was apprehended by Inspector Huang and William, an event witnessed by Si San. Back at the competition, A Yi continued his search for the assassin. Yang Zhen, seeing an opportunity, subtly drew a dagger, intending to stab A Yi, but A Yi suddenly turned, forcing Yang Zhen to quickly conceal the weapon and feign searching for the assassin himself. Chongliming stepped into the ring to face Plum.

From the audience, Big Cat alerted Hua Jiuqing that Plum was known for using hidden weapons. Hua Jiuqing immediately rushed to the ringside, publicly exposing Plum’s deceit. Forewarned, Chongliming skillfully dodged Plum’s attempts and swiftly defeated her with a series of punches and kicks. Despite the blatant use of a hidden weapon, the referee allowed the match to continue. Chongliming still won the match without much effort. Simultaneously, A Yi located and apprehended the assassin. Wagner and Can Yan Xin then took the captured assassin to the Ritz Hotel. Meanwhile, Si San, having witnessed Yuchu's capture, watched helplessly as she was taken away.
