Li Zhe (Ethan Carter) brings his girlfriend Meng Fei (Emily Parker) home to meet his parents. His mother, Wang Lan, who has worked as a prison guard for twenty years, senses something unusual about her behavior within just ten minutes.
An investigation soon reveals that Meng Fei’s identity is fake. The real Meng Fei was reported missing five years ago. They secretly break into her apartment and discover a hidden compartment inside her wardrobe. Inside is a diary containing the names of twelve people, and Li Zhe’s name is prominently listed among them. The diary also mentions a fire at Hongshan Orphanage fifteen years ago, which left no survivors. The case had been officially closed by Li Zhe’s father at the time.
DNA test results shock everyone: the girl is actually Su Xiaowan, the orphanage director who was believed to have died in that fire.
When they arrive at the ruins of the orphanage, they realize the truth—the fire was not an accident.
